It sounds like you are doing exactly what you need to be doing to get the best of your workout. In that case, it sounds like your muscles are much stronger; and where you're workout is working less for you, your basal metabolic rate is much higher which is great b/c you wouldn't need to eat less. BUT it's very hard to…

Thanks guys. I'm going to cancel my appointment. I just wanted to hear from one person who kept the weight off, and apparently that doesn't exist. I'm going to the wedding as is. Even with the weight I'll still be pretty :o)

Yes, if you continue to do the same workout you have to decrease the caloric intake. Instead of doing that, my advice is to switch it up. I used to jog 4 times a week only. Now I'm doing mon-step, tue-cycling, wed-a weight strength/cardio class, thur-slow jog, fri- swim,sat- long run, sun-rest. Can you tell I like cardio??…

Way to go! I think Victoria's secret is having their semi annual sale soon too. I think you deserve a few of those as well :0)

I was just running with a friend who has never ran in her life, and she was sooooo angry with herself for not running the same 2 miles we did the previous week. I told her to stop beating herself up for not achieving today's goal. Thank your body for what it has done for you thus far, and try again next week. To give up…

If he's anything like my patients (and I'm sure he is), the proof is in the pudding. If he feels fine, he's not going to change. IF you can get him to go to his primary care doc, tell his doc about your concerns. You don't even need to go with him. Just call his nurse, or leave a message with the doc before his…

BTW, I can't spell to save my life. shin not chin......Geesh

Sounds like the infamous wretched chin splint. It's going to stick around for sometime, and you have to run through it. It sucks to put it plainly. The only stretch that remotely helped me was pointing my toes. The good news is after this is over you probably won't ever feel it again, and they probably will be over in a…

No, weight lifting itself does not. 30 minutes on any cardio machine will burn 200 though. Weight lifting takes a lot longer for you to burn calories. It increases your muscle mass which increases your basel metabolic rate. You have to do quite a bit of strength training for it to take effect, but you need to do it. Cardio…

Not really. Carbs is too vague. Carbs includes both fiber which is insoluble and sugar which is the thing you really want to limit yourself. I knocked the carbs off and count my fiber and sugar. I'm always over on sugar though, b/c I eat fruit. I never limit my intake of fruit.

Karin- Thanks for the tip. I'll go look for timed soaker hoses while I'm buying plants! That would totally solve my problem. Actually, I don't have much space for a designated vegetable garden (I live in a townhouse in Baltimore city) and I soooo much want to grow my own tomatoes. It's going to look a little silly in my…

I've been trying every spring for about 4 years to acquire a green thumb. My back yard where I hang out and entertain is nothing but shade. I planted a wisteria last year of which I don't expect to bloom, but I wanted a nice vine to grow up my back porch awning that would survive MD winters. It looks like it's doing well…

Simply looking at the caloric intake white wine wins at average 65, red is about 70, and light beer is 90-100 tying with liquor at 100 a shot. I usually pick the red wine, b/c that's the one with all the antioxidants in the tannins. If I'm drinking the calories might as well pick the one that is supposed to be good for me,…

Thanks. I just swam for about 20 minutes. I wanted to take it easy for my first time. Every time after this will be 60 minutes.

Totally, it actually has a lot to do with your hormonal changes. Fat and estrogen are buddies (go figure) and testosterone keeps all the symptoms in check. Female athletes skip periods. And obese pregnant women can continue to have their period. It's a plus to hit the gym for me. Myself being both obese and healthy BMI at…

Truly, just continue to do your cardio and add some strength training to legs, back, and arms. There is no one workout to prepare you for backpacking through mountains. I don't believe anyone will be upset with you even if you are the slow one. It's so much fun out there just being there. I often hike a teeny tiny piece of…

My feeling is no worries. I feel we should be counting both saturated and unsaturated, but really what ever your doing seems to be just fine. You're almost at your goal. Good job!

Real age hasn't failed me yet. Everything I make from there is delicious. http://www.realage.com/recipefinder/ I also bought the hungry girl cookbook which has great low fat/cal ideas for lots of the comfort food that I love. http://www.hungry-girl.com/ Happy cooking!

I think you should focus more on your metabolism. If you are eating a low cal diet and exercising including cardio and strength training, and you are not losing weight; then you need to find other ways to jump start your thyroid gland. Eating 6 small meals a day instead of 3. Separating your exercises to twice a day. All…

Fiber is not something you want to skimp on. Think of it like your vitamins. You don't decrease your vitamin intake simply b/c you decrease your caloric intake. One good thing that "they" have found out is if you do consume 25g of fiber daily, you do not absorb all of your intake of fat. I do have colon cancer in my family…
