  • Sydney is awesome for Christmas, especially for an Ontario, Canada girl. Want to see the fireworks at New Years some year. But .... Melbourne was terrific too. A combination of a summer festival with school holidays and Santa thrown in for good measure. Just wandering around downtown enjoying the party was so much fun. I…
  • I guess s/he does not know you well! Smile and say thank you. Maybe a neighbour?
  • Offices at this time of year are food traps! Stay strong! I realise that at home, I have created my own trap. I am hosting Christmas and we have the gluten intolerant, the lactose intolerant and the diabetic as well as fat phobic and the normies. Not many of those! So I have plans so that everyone on special diets are OK…
  • We sure are, Mary! My water consumption is really about tea consumption these days! Keep the prize in mind.
  • @ChoiceNotChance , been doing them for 40 odd years and came from a British War Bride to Canada, I believe. There are now 16 different families that do "pigs". In Canada, Pure pork sausage comes in a red and white plastic roll from Maple Leaf, I think. In Oz, I asked for pork mince from the butcher. 500grams does a 5-7kg…
  • My family loves a turkey dressing which we call "pigs" (don't know why, it came from my SIL) Seasoned sausage meat, made into balls about the size of golf balls, normally rolled in flour but we will use something else this year, put loosely in the turkey. (The bits that cannot get inside sit between the legs and crisp up,…
  • Glad to have you back, Gayle! looking forward to hearing about your new spot! With the level of snow outside, a lake with a walking trail sounds like heaven.
  • I hope you have heat now. We are still watching and waiting for the propane truck. They cannot make it down our road because of snow at the moment.
  • Thanks Pam. I will check on Amazon here. Never thought of it for food stuffs. I order books from it. Will have to branch out!
  • Thanks for tip Pam @mapdancer on the kimchi and yogurt recipe. I have bought a jar of kimchi to try and my family likes spice. I have one with an allergy to shellfish so, not for her but maybe for others. I want to make my own kimchi (tried saurkraut once but too salty - the recipe did not specific how much). I have yet to…
  • Hi Mary! Good to hear from you! Keep up the good work and it will come off again. 3.5lb a week is pretty fast though. Better slow and steady they say. But that may be a justification of my slow, slow, slow loss. I finally after months and months and months of working at the same lbs got to input a new weight this morning.…
  • Tomorrow is Friday. Really hoping the propane truck comes before we run out.
  • Wow! @bilglitch that is a great success story! 115 lbs in under a year. You really worked hard and I hear you about everything being easier. :D

  • Hi Pam, Thanks for the article link. I love my walking. It is hard in the winter to find a substitute that I like. Problems with bungalow living. No stairs. But I did manage the 3 sets of stairs to the train when I was in Toronto with no real problem. I have to admit I was walking them slowly. The take away for me is to…
  • Thanks for the soluble fiber calculator. Helpful. OP, I was in the same boat with an increase in LDL. Waiting wasn't an option because of medical insurance for travel. So I changed my diet to include more fiber and more soluble fiber in particular. I have also reduced cheese eating and I am aware of the saturated fat meats…
  • As far as sugar subs, we use liquid stevia (no aftertaste), xylitol and erythritol. (Excuse the spelling). If I need to get rid of the grittiness, I grind it for a sec in a ex-coffee grinder. Turns it into a powder like icing sugar. We aren't fond of powdered stevia or splenda because of aftertaste. Have a good week…

  • Pools and beach, how totally dreamy. We were supposed to have a blast of winter last night into today but now it has all slid a day and I have to travel tomorrow! By bus but still an hour round trip for my DH to get me to the bus.
  • ruled.me website has a number of appetizer ideas but generally cheese, pickles, pork rinds, jerky, hard boiled eggs.

  • Chest pain is scary but there are a variety of reasons other than heart disease. You can reduce your saturated fats while staying low carb. Have a look at dietdoctor.com or some of the other resources in the launchpad. Change out saturated fats for mono saturated. Or raise your carbs a little and lower your fats. I lose…

  • This is me and my story! And I have tried keto 4 times, same result, stall in weight and real problems "moving things along'. Up the carbs to around 50 total, everything works better and weight comes off. I am learning to accept it.
  • You may get some good help from the people in the Low Carb group. http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/group/394-low-carber-daily-forum-the-lcd-group Lots of experience from a whole lot of people. Some don't eat any fiber and some eat quite a bit. I do find soluble fiber easier to digest but I do not have your particular…
