Thanks everyone! You've all given me such detailed replies.. I now understand it much better. I shall try on some shoes at a local cycling store or at an REI near home, and see what feels best. Thanks again to every one of you for all the guidance and advice. Really appreciate it very much !! :)

Anyone?

Nicely said! I agree :)

Thanks for the reply. I am starting to understand the concept of caloric expenditure in hot yoga a bit better now. Though it sure doesn't seem like a low calorie burn activity. At the end of the class, every one of us was sweating buckets. Too bad it doesn't actually burn that many calories. Ah well,.. it is a fun class :)
-
But then holding a tough yoga pose for a few minutes gets your heart beating really hard. The body is exerting itself to make it happen. How can that not burn any calories?

Thanks for all the replies. This thread has made me understand the math behind MFP's calorie calculations a little better. I was under the assumption that I needed to have an enormous calorie deficit at the end of the day to see significant weight loss. While that might be true, I am beginning to see that this would never…

Thanks for the reply. I now understand what you're saying. Since I have a full day desk job, my lifestyle would qualify as sedentary too. Thanks again !!

Thanks for all the replies! Appreciate it :)

Ok, this reply really puts things in perspective for me. I realize now that I was probably having the wrong idea of weight loss when I started using MFP. I thought the goal was to have a huge deficit in calories at the end of each day. I am starting to understand that is the wrong way to go about a sustainable weight loss.…

Ok, that was beautifully explained! Thanks for taking the time to give me such an elaborate answer. Appreciate it :) But I still have a question for you. You said that MFP calculates my calorie deficit using my original input of "sedentary" lifestyle. But, now that I have incorporated exercise into my daily life, I am no…

^^^ Hmm.. ok, thinking aloud here.. If I eat back most of my calories, I won't have much of a calorie deficit. So, how will my body experience a weight loss? Wouldn't what you suggested be more relevant closer to the maintenance period? I am just wondering how it works..

I'm in !!

Thanks for the reply. Good to hear that yoga helped you so much ! I hope hot yoga may not be the slow kind.. I really want to feel toned and strong in a couple of months too! Thanks again for the reply !!

Thanks for all the replies! I tried my best.. Of course I was no where near the level that the others in the class were at. But I am not comparing myself with them. They've been doing this for a while now. Also, good to know that achy/sore/tired legs are not the indicator for a good spinning session !! Thanks again :)
-
Thanks for replying. What you said makes sense. I was extremely out of shape when I started. Maybe that's why the first few classes hurt as much as they did. Now perhaps my muscles are slowly getting used to the strain. Maybe that's why my legs didn't hurt today. It also helps that I had 2 days of rest before resuming…

I am beginning to see that an entire cheat day is a terrible idea. Thanks for taking the time to reply. Appreciate it :)

Wow. Thanks so much everyone. I read each and every single reply - and there is one message that resonates through it all - Cheat days do not work. Instead, have a cheat meal as an occasional treat. And be accountable for it. Thanks for helping out a newbie like me. I really appreciate it :)
-
Thanks for all the replies. I now realize that I am only setting myself up for failure if I continue going about "cheat days" the way I have been doing so far. Like y'all said, instead of undoing all that hardwork with an entire cheat day, it makes more sense to splurge once in a while on a well deserved cheat meal. Thanks…

@caracrawford1: Thanks! I really needed to hear this.

Thanks for all the great advice :) I do agree that a diet/lifestyle change is the key to losing weight- and I am working towards that. Also as suggested, I will try to work in some strength and flexibility routines every other day. Seriously, five days straight of spinning is brutal. I don't think this could work out long…
