  • This is really simple and I may have posted this before- I love tofu on anything. My favorite way to prepare it is to press the water out (I buy firm and usually Panda brand but it's made in Michigan which is where I live). Cut it up into slices and put into a sandwhich bag. Make a marinade out of equal parts olive oil and…
  • Here's a delicious smoothie recipe- a banana and equal parts soy milk and apple juice (1/2 to 3/4c. of each) heaping tablespoon of pb and a little honey (if you eat it) blend with crushed ice. it's very tasty and good for calories since there's pb, soy milk and juice!
  • Special K Bliss Bars, raspberry is the best. They're 90 calories and quite small but they're sweet and there is chocolate on them.
  • Is it water? Is it that time of the month? Don't get discourged!! Also, if you've never been a lifter prior to this- you could be gaining muscle which weighs more than fat. Can you go by how your pants fit for a little while?
  • I know how you feel. there's no easy solution, keep busy instead of sitting around. Take on projects if necessary. if you're at work, go for a short stroll around the building. chew gum!
  • thanks.
  • I've heard awesome things about Girl Talk (it's one guy, a dj). thanks for that suggestion, too! I have a lot of good music but I run a lot and some of them are really long runs so I just get tired of hearing the same things all the time. Especially when I know I've moving slowly because I should be a at a certain place by…
  • ahh, the magic of google. Thanks, Mike! Sara
  • I'm really not a fan of techno either, I'd prefer something in the hip hop or rock 'n roll arenas. Any suggestions there?
  • I'm wondering if anyone has good suggestions for workout music- I've been running for years and am at a loss for new songs with a quick beat, I can't keep pace with slow music, no matter how good it is. I'm flexible on the genre but prefer not to listen to country
  • Sometimes my sweet tooth is helped by eating beets- theyre very sweet (hence beet sugar) and very fiborous. If you juice veggies they're a great addition to carrot apple juice or when boiled or roasted go very well with pasta or in a salad. If all else fails have a spoonful of nutella (or dip your fuit in it). It's a nice…
  • There's a great granola recipe in John Robbins' May All be Fed cookbook. My books are currently i boxes since I just moved but I'd be happy to post the recipe in a week if you're okay waiting that long. There are also some great granolas usually sold in the bullk foods section at the local health food store!
  • Don't punish yourself, you'll only make it worse! Just get back to the regular plan and stick with it. If you try to take away more calories it will just make for a cycle which is why we all fall off our diets. Just get up, brush off those scraped knees and start running again. Don't let your fall keep you down!
  • I usually buy Panda Brand but it's made in Michigan so it's always available and our ailing economy needs support! I think any brand is fine but make sure it's Firm and don't buy silken (I find silken tofu more appropriate for dips and other things pureed)- it will be labeled clearly as silken so you can't really buy it by…
  • I needed that laugh on a monday. thanks!
  • Oh I wish I has seen this sooner! I love tofu and here is my preferred way to prepare it: drain firm tofu and squeeze the excess water out. Cut it into slices and put in a plastic baggie with a marinade for 15 minutes to 2 days. Marinade: equal parts olive oil and balsalmic vinegar (about 1/4 c each) chopped garlic (one…
  • OATMEAL with fruit!
  • I haven't read any of these but I'll surely look into them. Nothing inspires more than literature. Just a reminder to use your local library. Those books are free, you know.
  • You know, I always have this thing where if I am going to have cake (or chocolate or cookies), it has to be worth my calories. So in essence, when my coworkers have cake I won't eat it if it's from Denny's or some just-okay bakery around town and i won't eat Hershey's chocolate, I want Lindor chocolate. Being choosy makes…

  • Hilarious and so true. I haven't eaten meat in almost 14 years and really, all my friends are obsessive about finding good sources of fiber and I NEVER seem to have that problem!! I get a lot of my protein from the legume family... but also a bowl of oatmeal is a great way to start the morning- especially with some fruit…
  • Branch out a little and explore foods like lentils and tofu (two of my personal favs). They both serve as great substitutes for meat and are full of vitamins but low in fat. They both go great as burgers or with salads or next to vegetables- very versatile so it's hard to get tired of eating them. Tofu is tricky for some…
  • I think one of the great downfalls to this surgery is that it never gives a person the opportunity to learn to eat properly. I know some people who have had the surgery and they were overweight because of awful eating habits- constant fast food, fried food and always drinking soda, never water. Those same people are still…
  • I also just broke up with someone, after 3 years. I know it's really though. Like already mentioned, I turned to exercise, it fills the time I used to make for him AND it give me an opportunity to think about what I want to do next- what friends I want to see over the weekend and what my new single adventure will be. Also,…

  • Thanks for mentioning that. I love the HG cookbook but I really can't bring myself to consume splenda or egg beaters. Oh and don't even get me started on non dairy creamer.
  • Oh where to begin! I've been a vegetarian for over 10 years and this longevity has taught me a lot of things... one of the nicest is that you can still eat foods that you've come to love over the years but with a little different twist. I love comfort foods, so instead of the meats on summer holidays, I make bbq lentils, i…
