  • I spend $1K a year on my yoga studio membership (gym membership is covered by work). Yoga classes are a million times better than doing yoga at home.
  • When you have a very small amount of weight to lose, combining training in different zones can be helpful in mobilizing and oxidizing stubborn fat stores. When you still have 100+ pounds to lose, the zones are unnecessary. Maximize your calorie burn.
  • 1. To look hawt. 2. To eat more. 3. To be healthier.
  • Okay, I tried it with stuff I had on hand and it was delicious! 1/2 c old fashioned oats 1/2 c plain soy milk 1 container fat free plain greek yogurt 1 scoop vanilla protein powder 1 c blueberries 1/8 c chopped pecans 1/2 tsp cinnamon 2 servings, about 320 cals and 28g protein each. Yum! I will be trying the pina colada…
  • A HIIT workout in and of itself will only burn about 80 calories for me. But it will also release more stored lipids into the bloodstream due to the hormonal responses. If you do low-intensity steady state cardio after a HIIT workout, those lipids in the bloodstream are immediately available to be burned. If you don't do…
  • I'm still looking. I did see a study that reported serum HGH was elevated for 90-120 minutes after a HIIT workout with 30 second sprints, but I don't know if that same time window translates to lipid availability. I'm really interested in whether or not it would be worthwhile to add a HIIT workout at my office gym before…
  • Well, by basic math you also 'should' have only lost 1.5 pounds from Friday-Wednesday on the deficit you stated, not 9! So you're still 5 pounds ahead of the game.
  • Haven't gotten into the refrigerator oatmeal yet but the pina colada flavor sounds awesome...
  • If you can get a decent HRM (with a chest strap) that only calculates your heart rate and nothing else, this is an excellent site that will do the calculation for you: http://www.braydenwm.com/calburn.htm I find that it's usually within about 5% of my Polar. My husband uses this one from Timex:…
  • I love the front squat/push press. I found that I could squat much deeper with the bar in front, and when I went back to back squats after doing FSPP my form was better there too. I'm doing my own lifting program now but I still do FSPP once a week (I do back squats once a week too, and I do dumbbell shoulder press also).
  • Get moving. And IcyHot.
  • "Secret"?? There are 50 pages worth of topics about HCG on MFP, and nearly 58 million hits on google.
  • Nope. A tricep pushup is essentially the same thing as chatturanga in yoga (except that you push back up instead of rolling forward into upward-facing dog). I've done practices where we did 6 chatturanga-to-plank reps in a row, multiple times. You just have to condition the muscle like anything else.
  • I just figured it would be helpful for people who might want to google it or something.
  • Vasovagal drop.
  • High intensity interval training (15 minutes) followed by lower intensity cardio (30-45 minutes). 60 minutes of lifting. On alternate days.
  • I wore tri shorts (you can get them for about $25-30, way cheaper than a suit) and a sport bikini top that I already owned, and then just threw on a tank top over top of the bikini for the bike and run.
  • DEAD WRONG. Antifreeze is ethylene glycol. It's basically the difference between methanol (dangerous) and ethanol (tasty, especially in a nice pina colada). Chemistry ftw.
  • Definitely this. Girl pushups don't prepare you for regular pushups, because it's a totally different exercise. You're not engaging the same muscles and your arms are at a different angle relative to your torso. Doing pushups against the wall/couch/bench/step etc maintains the exercise but just takes some of the load off…
  • Just started it, I'm only doing it once a week mixed in with the rest of my workouts. I've done level 1 three times now. and it's a pretty good workout.
  • Plenty of fruit juice and whole milk, if she can tolerate it. View everything as an opportunity to fit in cals. Buttered rice can be blended with a bit of cream and sugar for a sweeter taste, or even gravy for something savory. Mashed bananas are a higher calorie fruit (again, puree with a little cream if the banana is too…
  • Also because you need the tension of your foot against the ground to push you forward instead of maintaining one spot on a moving belt. The better equivalent of running outside is setting the treadmill at a slight incline (I usually do 0.5 when I run inside). Otherwise the movement of the belt at no incline is really more…
  • You're in luck then, the first week of C25K only has you running for 60 seconds at a time!
  • I know there's hormonal effects with regards to insulin and such which come into play when someone is fairly lean and wants to get leaner, but from a caloric standpoint both scenarios end up with the same numeric result: Burn 400 calories first thing in the AM - must come from body fat stores. Eat 1900 calories the rest of…
  • My husband has a higher calorie goal than me, so he usually takes an extra serving of something at dinner when he needs the extra calories, and also he eats higher calorie lunches at work than I do. Another tip is to have the person with the higher calorie goal drink some of their calories - lowfat milk, 100% fruit juice,…
  • I didn't develop an intolerance to lactose until I was 30. It's mild, I can still eat cheese/ice cream in moderation, but I've swapped my regular milk for soy and it went away.
  • Nope. Excess calories are what put fat on your body, regardless of what food or macro they come from. If OP wants a brownie and can eat the brownie while still coming in under net cals, I say viva la brownie.
  • From a biblical definition, soy yogurt, almond milk, peanut butter, pasta and sauce are all "processed foods".
  • I take whey protein shakes too? Made with soy milk. I don't know what that has to do with anything?
