Nike+ calibration too large to be accepted?
I just recently replaced my 2nd gen iPod Touch with a 4th gen, and linked my new iPod to my Nike+ running sensor. My first run was 6.2 miles outside and the calibration was too long by over 10% (nearly 7 miles) so I adjusted the distance back to 6.2 miles, and the home screen updated the "Run Calibration" date to 8/10/14.…

Agthorn's bulking log
Well hello ladies. I had made a post in the main forums and someone commented to clue me in on this group! I participated in Reddit's Body Transformation Fitness Challenge Round 6 in the cutting category which wrapped up for me on December 20th. Finished at 119.4lbs and 17.4% body fat, though I had gotten down to 117 and…

Attempting my first bulk
I got down to 117lbs and 17.1% BF before vacation, currently sitting at around 119 and 17.5%. Looking to bulk up until I hit 22% or my pants feel uncomfortable, whichever comes first :-) StrongLifts 5x5 and about a 300 calorie surplus over TDEE, plus I teach and take a couple yoga classes a week. It's a whole new world for…

Negative Food
No, I'm not talking about the "negative calorie food" bunk. Did you know that you can log negative QUANTITIES of food in your food log? So if, for example, you order a sandwich at a restaurant and you get it without cheese...you can log "-1 cheese slice" and it will subtract all the relevant calories, fat, carbs, protein,…

Combining HIIT and LISS
I like to combine high intensity intervals and lower intensity steady-state back to back. It seems like the optimal set-up; the HIIT is more effective at releasing stored lipids and the LISS is more effective at burning them. What I haven't been able to find is how far apart you can have them and still get the benefits of…

What's going to happen to me??
So, I ordered a bunch of protein powder online, and it was delivered the other day. After I carried the package into the house, I noticed on the packing slip that it weighed 16.5 lbs! I've been told women shouldn't lift anything over 5 pounds. Is my uterus going to fall out now??

NSV - My first half marathon!
In January 2009, I got the Nike+ app and sensor, and ran 1.55 miles. It took me almost 22 minutes, which is slower than a 14:00 mile. Today I ran the Frederick Half Marathon and achieved all three goals for myself. 1) I did not die. 2) I ran the entire race. 3) I finished in 2:18:40, which is about a 10:37 mile pace and…

"Conventional Wisdom" not so wise
http://nerdfitness.com/blog/2012/02/14/conventional-wisdom/ Debunked: "Eating fat will make you fat" "Eating cholesterol will give you heart attacks" "You need cardio to lose weight" "You need to eat every three hours to lose weight" "Machines are safer than free weights" "Lifting heavy weights will make you bulky"

Factors that affect resting/working HR?
My Polar FT60 was delivered, and something is funky... I put in all my info and did the "fitness test" (which I believe is calculating your Vo2max based on your resting heart rate?) Then I went for a 5 mile run. Nike+ app says an average pace of 10:30/mile and 492 calories burned. This is a pretty typical run for me. The…

MILK
A friend told me that humans are the only species that actively seeks out another species' milk. I told him that humans are also the only species with cookies.

Weightlifters - etiquette question!
I went to the gym today and two guys took up the squat rack for a full half hour. I waited about 20 minutes before I gave up and just did squats in the middle of the room (I'm only squatting 50lbs total right now, so not a huge risk of injury here). My question is - while it's obvious enough to ask one person using a piece…

weight loss AND NSV
While I've never been outside of a "healthy" BMI according to the charts, I've always tended to carry weight in my waist and hips and have been a size 8 in jeans whether I weighed 145 or 125. Since joining MFP in May I lost 12 pounds (my weight goal) AND a combined 7.75" off my waist and hips. I just bought size 6 jeans!

Sauna? Steam room? Both?
My gym's locker room has both a sauna and a steam room, and I've never used either. Are there benefits of one versus the other, or is it just a matter of personal preference - like how some people prefer to live in Arizona instead of Georgia? Do you use them for different purposes? I do yoga in a heated room so I know the…

Maintainers - how to eat more without eating more
So you've reached your goal weight and upped your calories - hooray! Now, how do you eat at your new calorie level when you've been dieting for months and you're just not *that* hungry? Eating more calories doesn't necessarily mean eating more food. It's awesome to have extra calories for treats, but on the balance we…
