  • Thanks! First half, yes. I did a 15K back in early December and figured I had a good base at that point to work up to the half. I've found that I kind of get bored after about 90 minutes though, so I think this will probably be my only half. Just wanted to see if I could do it (and it was free, because my company is a…
  • Ba-dum-ching! The half marathon is in 9 days  My goals, in descending order, are 1. Don't die. 2. Run the entire race. 3. Finish in under 2:25:00.
  • I do both, but my goal is just to finish my half marathon (in 9 days). I plan to transition to a focus on building speed for a shorter distance from May-August (two shorter speed runs, one 10K run a week) and then I'll just use running as a HIIT tool after that. So, my previous workout (2x lift, 4x run) has been: M - yoga…
  • Currently lift 2x a week (with a short cardio session afterwards), run 4x a week, and yoga 3-4x a week. But I'll be changing to lift 3x a week, run 3x a week after my half marathon in two weeks.
  • I put matcha green tea powder into vanilla protein shakes.
  • This. And this. Sprinting, specifically. It will fire the glutes better than regular running/jogging.

  • I don't know if it's worth offering clarifications, but my point was that no one is ever going to "accidentally" look like that. Those women (and you, I assume) must work very hard both in the gym and out to achieve that appearance and they don't look like those pictures 24/7. It's unfair to point to those as "examples" in…
  • Pointing to a bodybuilder competition as an example is ridiculous. Not only do those women pretty much dedicate their entire lives to looking like that, but they also go through very careful steps to specifically enhance those muscles for the competition, such as dehydration and strategic spray tans. They also do a couple…
  • This is my body image ideal: Go ahead and tell me she looks "masculine"...
  • There's a difference between expressing a preference for something else like an adult, and saying "Eww, that's gross/ugly/ you looka lika man."
  • M - ashtanga yoga (75 min) and running speed intervals (15 min) T - total body lifting (7 exercises, 3 sets of 6) + low-intensity cardio (20 minutes) W - speed run, 2 miles at 9:30 pace (and will add 1/4 mile each week) + focused arm/ab work (15 minutes) R - vinyasa flow 1 yoga (75 min) and will be adding a 1-hour adult…
  • There's no fat in coke...
  • Okay everyone, let's settle this once and for all. Drink ANY fluid you like for the next three days EXCEPT plain water, and then come back and tell us whether or not you were admitted to the hospital for dehydration.
  • I am 5"5 and currently 132. Getting ready to start another cut after my half marathon in 2 weeks, and I'll be aiming for 1530 NET (which means eating about 1700-2100 depending on my exercise schedule). Goal is probably about 125-128. I've been as low as 117 but I was still skinny fat then; doing heavy lifting 2-3 days a…
  • "I am a doctor, just not the kind that helps people."
  • I don't think there's pure water anywhere in the body. Blood plasma, sweat, lymph, urine, cytoplasm, mucous, saliva and other digestive fluids - all bodily fluids comprised primarily of water with other things dissolved or suspended. And I studied biology for TWELVE years.
  • Again. If you drink a glass of water and then ate 1/3 cup of powdered milk...did you or did you not drink a glass of water? Why does it matter if the milk solids are IN the water instead of next to it?
  • If you drank a glass of water, and then ate three tablespoons of sugar and a no-doz...did you or did you not drink a glass of water? Why would it matter if the sugar and caffeine are IN the water (i.e. a can of coke) instead of next to it?
  • Man, I feel like a chump now for busting my butt to pay off my student loans in 2.5 years. I had 2/3 of my tuition paid by grants/scholarships, 10% in loans and my parents and I paid the rest myself. I fully support my tax dollars going to need-based aid. I think there should be even more of it! And I fully support…
  • Ditto. Also spiders.
  • 30 day shred is not lifting heavy, it's circuit training. Which is fine, if you want to do circuit training. I do a 40lb barbell curl and a 65lb barbell row, to use the examples you gave.
  • Lots of sad in this thread :frown: BMR calculated by MFP: 1320 BMR calculated with lean body mass: 1378 TDEE: 1780 net (typically 2000-2800 gross with exercise) Goal during weight loss: 1530 net
  • Love this - you look great in the dress! No better testimony to the benefits of lifting weights than this. (PS - I'm doing a hybrid of NROLW and SL too  )
  • Apples?? Apples have 80-120 calories per serving depending on the size. April fools was over a week ago...
  • Because it costs energy to maintain muscle mass, while it costs almost no energy to maintain fat mass. So if your body thinks there aren't enough resources to sustain your bodily organs and your muscle mass, it will start cannibalizing the muscle mass in addition to fat as a fuel source so that it requires fewer calories…
  • Traditional Polish Easter meal: ham, kielbasa, pierogies, lokshyna casserole (egg noodles, bacon, cottage cheese), mizeria (cucumber salad), hard boiled eggs, babka bread, and butter in the shape of a lamb.

  • I actually answered that question upthread. Being that I said "80% of your max HR" and not "80% of your predicted max HR". You can test yourself and find your max HR. 220-age gives me 190. My max HR from a treadmill incline test is 201. And I ran 9 miles yesterday at 89% of my max, because I've built up aerobic endurance…
  • 30 miles a week will still have them running 140% of the race distance every single day.
