I've been running these weird hours for years now due to work schedule and parenthood. The whole late thing works for me, not to mention that the jacked feeling after workouts didn't start happening until I started the protein shake. I even tried a shake at noon time, many hours after my workout and still got that feeling.

For someone who's new to this whole protein thing, and diet and exercise for that matter, how do I determine what is good in them and what is crap?

I feel good if I choose Hefeweizen over Stout because its estimated 300 calories less per 12 oz. serving. You know what that means? 3 beers for the choice of 1. LOL I like the way you summed that up. It makes sense.
