Feeling jacked

Does casein protein make you feel less jacked than whey protein? Unfortunately, due to work and parenthood, I can only work out late at night. I started drinking a protein shake after my workouts. But the whey protein is making me feel jacked and making it tough to fall asleep. Which one should I use?

Hm...I don't know the exact answer to your question but have to wonder what else is in your protein powder? Caffeine? Sugar? These could also be a factor.
It also could just be your workout timing. As we relax at the end of the day, our body temp drops which help get us ready to sleep. When you workout before bed, you're prolonging the process by raising your body temp and making it harder to drop.0 -
casein is a slow absorption protein compared to whey and should be taken before bed0

What brand are you using?0

I think it may be the timing of your workout that is keeping you up... not the protein. If I workout too late, I cannot fall asleep either0

Yea cause you don't want to go catabolic while you sleep and lose your gainzzzz :noway:
It's not 1980, just hit your protein goal by the end of the day and you're fine...0 -
casein and whey are both just parts of milk protein.......I can't imagine either one producing a "jacked" feeling. I would assume it's either other ingredients, or just the timing of your work out.0

Neither protein powder should....unless it has caffeine in it....
Just FYI
Milk is 80% casein and 20% Whey0 -

Jacked? Naw. My I've got some stuff for that, I forget the name, but it gets me buzzy if I use it as a PWO.
Casein makes me feel sated for longer, but it unleashes the beast in my lower intestine. It's not good for bystanders. I'd use the whey protein. I'd check it though and see if it's psychosomatic, or if the protein increase is doing it. Then I'd switch to chicken breast and see if it happens with that.0 -
Working out late at night is what is keeping you up.....
So if you go to bed at 10, I would not workout past 8
When you workout, you pump adrenaline so that is what is keeping you up0 -

This. If I workout too late, I can't sleep either, or I have the lovely half awake, half asleep thing going. Also watch your caffeine intake. If I take anything with caffeine in it after 2pm, it affects my sleep.0 -

Glad I ain't the only one....I am the exact same way....I get my second cup of coffee at 1pm
No caffeine after 20 -

It took me FOREVER to realize what was doing it. I pretty sleep deprived by the time I did. LOL0 -

Was gonna say something like that. So just gonna agree with this here statement.0 -

Casien protien is the most overrated supplement out there, i use to do the whole half a cup of egg whites for breakfast all the way down meal 6 and casien before bed diet, must have wasted hundreds of euros on the stuff. Whey is all you need.0

Protein is all you need, casein, whey, soy, just protein! I do not want to begin to imagine what that bathroom smelled like when you left there! To quote Ace Ventura "WHEW, Do NOT Go In There!!!"0 -
I wish I could say that's true. But I can drink a pot of coffee and feel nothing, a pot of espresso and barely notice it. One 8 oz shake had my body noticeably jittery. I mean like mixing a shot or two of espresso into a half a cup of coffee and then topping it off with red bull (which I've done before and strongly recommend not trying it).0

What's in this protein shake?
Perhaps there's something that you react to? A preservative or a colouring or something of that sort. Try another brand that doesn't add a bunch of crap.0 -

Well, just buy an unflavoured, pure whey isolate. Mix it with your own stuff depending upon macro/taste needs (bananas, pb, etc). If it doesn't affect you, then there was something else in that other stuff you were drinking that you don't get along with rather than the whey (or casein, if you choose to use casein)0 -

I've never felt jacked after drinking a whey protein shake. I'd assume it's the working out late that's making it tough to fall to sleep.0 -

Low and behold I have a solution. Drink my shake before my workout. Jacked feeling problem solved! Tried it today. Drank my shake an hour before I went to the gym (one of the few early sessions I get..... ever). Felt all jacked up 30 minutes later. 90 minutes at the gym *POOF* jacked feeling gone. Thanks for all the suggestions.0

That doesn't necessarily mean it won't affect your sleep. I don't feel anything when I take in caffeine, but it still screws with my sleep. :grumble:0 -

Ok, but remember when you workout you are activating your CNS.
So you are causing your system to "turn on"
Your entire body is going into motion......
So while caffeine is a stimulant.....
You are causing (what I think to be, depending on workout) an even bigger stimulant to your body when you workout.....0 -

Awesome
Glad you found what works for you.
