  • So inspiring!! Keep up the great work!
  • I never thought to do that...I'll have to try it!! I've done meatloaf in a muffin tin. My kids think it's fun and I get the portion control. Muffin tins rock!
  • Gets my vote.
  • I went to Old Navy yesterday. Last time I bought pants there, I bought size 16. I got them home, put them on, and found I couldn't wear them. I blamed the pants: they were cords, and they had no give; I really had to suck in my gut to do them up. Stupid pants. I shoved them in the back of my closet and vowed I'd wear them…
  • One "Cheat day" should not throw your whole plan off track, but you have to be committed to the process. This should be a lifestyle change, not a quick-fix, so even the way you approach "play time" should change for the long term. I still eat chips, but instead of a whole bag, I have 150 calories worth. If I want…
  • My weight gain happens around O time, so 2 weeks into my cycle: the changes in hormones cause you to retain water. It's anywhere from 1 to 3 lbs for me and is always gone by my next weigh-in (I weigh weekly).
  • Same here! It is notoriously cold in my office, so we have always kept the baseboard heater on to supplement the furnace, but I've had to start keeping a sweater at work to help keep me warm!! At home, I sometimes put a hoodie on, which I never used to do before. Even my husband, who always changes into shorts and a…
  • Wow...all this arguing about the Food Pyramid makes me glad I'm Canadian.
  • I would say increase your activity to "lightly active" to account for it. I don't count walking unless it's outside my normal day to day. Example: I have a desk job, so my level is set at sedentary. Every couple of weeks, I spend an entire day shopping, running errands, doing groceries, etc. I log it as however many hours…
  • I'm 5'6 and my original goal was 150, but once I got there, I decided to go for another 10 lbs. I'm currently at 145 (plateau).
  • I'm on week 2 and hoping to run the 5k in the Ottawa Race Weekend in May!
  • I eat it plain when I crave something savoury; if I'm craving something sweet, I'll mix in a tblsp of jam.
  • Personally, I plan on wearing a two-piece this summer, albeit a modest one. So I vote, rock it Mama!! I'm not a prude by any stretch, but I have daughters too (8, 6 and 14 months) and we make them wear modest-ish swimwear. I work in the field of domestic violence, so my husband and I are very concious of the…
  • If you decide to try upping your fibre, make sure you drink plenty of water as well!! If you eat all roughage with no water, you will just bung yourself up more. Fibre works when it swells with water. No water = extra waste = even more constipated.
  • Baby steps. Smaller goals are easier to achieve and will give you a sense of accomplishment. Then you can re-evaluate. My husband is 5'10 but has a small-ish frame. His highest weight was 205, but he didn't think that was a problem weight. He'd say he wanted to lose 10 lbs. Then when he'd get there, he'd say, okay, another…
  • It will be 10 years in May. Our first dance was "Storybook Love" by Willy DeVille (from The Princess Bride). The movie means a lot to us because after we met, he finally figured out I liked him when I came over to his place one day to lend him my copy. (After we'd been talking about movies we love the day before.) Also, he…
  • ^^ I do this on Facebook regularly. lol. I don't like "let's collect friends" game.
  • I accept many with similar goals/interests and delete anyone who makes self-righteous, passive-aggressive comments about my food diary. :grumble:
  • I think the essential thing in all of this is the use of the word "diet." It has come to mean: a trendy way of eating that is completely unrealistic to maintain in the real world. All "diets" work. All diets make you cut *something* out and you see results. Not many "diets" teach you a new way of relating to food. Weight…
  • Agreed. Eating less in general is a lifestyle change!! Whether you're eating fast food or a salad, if you're eating less of it, that's a huge change. The first few days I was recording my calories on MFP, I was SOOOOOO hungry by 7 p.m. It took a lot of self-discipline for me to stick with it and once I got over that hump,…
  • I was standing in my mom's kitchen chatting with her a couple of weeks ago and she looked at me for a long time and suddenly said, "You're a lot narrower than I thought you would be." Wha???? "I always thought you just were just made wide. I guess not." (There is a "history" of wide-reared women in her family. )
  • There's a Star Wars gene, and my husband has infected...er, I mean, passed it along to all our children. (Did anyone else see Episode 2 on their honeymoon??) When asked just now, my 6 year old son wants to be a Clone Trooper. Oh, changed his mind, he'd want to be Anakin. (Trust me, he's not nearly annoying enough.) His…
  • Awesome!! Good for you! You look fantastic!! I weigh less NOW than I did before having my babies! Heck, I weigh about the same that I did in high school (though my figure is quite different!). (Still have some post-baby flab, but I did have 4, including 2 at once, so I'm proud of my "twin-skin.")
  • What it means is that models who are size 6 are considered plus size models. So, in other words, it's totally unrealistic in the sense that 1) they're telling those poor girls that they are fat and 2) "regular" size clothing models are only going to continue getting thinner and unhealthier. The article is very interesting.…
  • Thank you for not considering being alone with your kids "babysitting." Thank you for having my toast and coffee ready at the door for me tograb on my way to work. Thank you for being the one to deal with our *****y landlady (I'd probably tell her what I really think of her and get us evicted!) Thank you for being the…
  • When I was in university (Trent in Peterborough, Ontario), my friends and I were a little hockey-crazy. :blushing: Go Petes Go! So I have met Eric Lindros (after his career ended), Jason Dawe (I think he's washed up now. lol) and Ron Tugnutt (when he was still the goalie for the Ottawa Senators.) I have seen Don…
  • Did you have his autograph? He hates giving out autographs these days because people sell them, so they are really hard to come by.
