I came into a paleo way of eating after years of conting calories. What I noticed was I can eat more paleo calories and still lose weight, but that if I eat too many I will maintain and not lose any more weight. Before I was eating 1200-1600 and exercising 6 times a week; I was lucky to lose 1 pound a month. After I…

Generally if it says "spices" that is what it will contain. If it is hidden ingredients to be wary of it will say "natural flavors/sesonings". The word spices is more specific so it should be only a blend of actual spices and not junk.

I have made kale chips pretty frequently, they aren't always bitter. Once I made htem and they actually hurt my teeth. I have no idea what that was about, other than I let the kale sit too long before making them. Now? I love them.

Coming not too long from teh arctic myself, I was soooooo excited to get away from all the same tired restuarants in Fairbanks (we were not as isolated as you are since it was only a 30 minute drive to "town") But, now that we are back in full civilization, I fins if we do go out to eat it is for the same types of foods,…

I went to college more than 15 years ago and some of my memory is foggy, but I was already in the military and constantly had to worry about my weight. I ate a lot of salad from teh salad bar. I made sure to eat breakfast as often as possible because they had eggs and other healthier options at breakfast compared to other…

Another thing is that if you have a lot of inflammation in your intestine it can come out as runny stool for a few days and then even out. If adjusting your fiber intake or decreasing coffee consumption doesn't fix it then this might be part of the problem, it won't last too long.

BMI is a good tool for an overfat person (note I said over fat, not overweight) as a goal to see move towards a more healthy number. If you are truly obese and have a BMI of 45 and you set a measurable gol to be a BMI of 30 or less it can be motivating to see that number go down. And as a tool used that way it is helpful.…

Those activities don't really fall under chronic cardio. They are generally less intense than what would be actual cardio. Lots of movement is good. They fall under move frequently. http://www.marksdailyapple.com/action-item-4-exercise-primally-move-lift-and-sprint/

I'm pretty eclectic too. I like having The Hampster Dance on there..because it makes me smile when it comes on...lol Mostly I have Flogging Molly and Dropkick Murphys. Then a lot of classic rock. I really can't think of any one specifc song right now. I just put my music on shufle and listen to whatever.

I eat any where from 40-60% fat, but generally fall in the 50% range. I have been very succesful not only with weight loss, but also with my lipid profile. My total cholesterol ios great as is my HDL and LDL.

Of course it is low compared to SAD, but it isn't low. It would be considered a moderate intake of carb. I was insulin ressitant and almost all of the weight I needed/need to lose is from my abdomen. Just because many people do well on a ketogenic diet, doesn't mean that all people with metabolic issues need to do it that…

That's really going to depend on your personal needs. I try to eat around 125 grams of carb a day, but I don't sweat it if I go over...or under. If I go too low I feel like garbage, if I go much higher than 175 on a regular basis I don't feel real well either.

It could be too much fat for your digestion, especially if you hadn't been eating a lot of fat before. You may need to increase it slowly. A digestive enzyme or apple cider vinegar (ACV) in water with meals may help too. I figure you are eating roughly 75-85 grams of fat per day, which for a person not used to it can be a…

I don't really use a lot of paleo treats anymore other than tapioca for wraps becuase I need the starch. When I first started I would make baked goods for the kids once or twice a week. We had four children at the time, so they never lasted long enough to be a problem. On occasion I make muffins or cookies now, but mostly…

The scale isn't as important as how you look and feel. Take measurements and pictures to compare. Look at this woman. She had an amazing tranformation of her body, without any change in the scale! http://everydaypaleo.com/attention-scale-addicts-part-2/

Welcome!

This is generally a good way to approach this lifestyle. Most people do well just be cutting out grains. Getting too muddled with macros and other stuff when you are starting out can make it more challenging. Just eat real food, track what you eat and carry on. Every person is different and has different needs for their…

Cup measurements are not as accurate as the scale so it isn't surprising that they don't match. To change the diary settings, click settings at the top of the page (on a computer) then click diary settings and scroll down to diary sharing.

We also have 5 children and spend close to $300 a week on food, those darn teens  Recently the budget has been tight though, so to try to stretch things a bit we have added back rice and potatoes. I really think the extra carbs are helping the kids feel more satisfied. They are definitely active enough to have a…

Definitely take measurements. I wouldn't be able to measure at my belly button though because as I lose weight it changes position...darn babies! I measure at my natural waist instead, just above the top of my hip bone (iliac crest.) If you can't do running sprints and you have access to a bike, pool or elliptical then you…

I can not lose weight in keto (and for someone as active as you less than 70g per day could still have you in ketosis). I need to carb cycle. I eat 75-100 grams on my light days and up to 175 grams on any heavy workout days. Your body may need starches too. Things like green plantains, tapioca or even rice (I know, not…

If you opened your diary then we could see what you were eating and maybe be helpful. I agree that you should weigh/measure to make sure you really are eating the amount you think you are eating. I know for me where my calories come from is just as important as how many claories I eat. Some people do well with just cutting…

Haven't read all the responses, I just wanted to interject that paleo does not = low carb. Can a person eat a low carb paleo style diet (even a ketogenic paleo diet)? Yes, but the majority of paleo adherents don't eat very low carb. Many carb cycle, some are moderate carb and still others eat high carb. I tend to fall in…

Did they check your CRP? Very high HDL levels can indicate inflammation which can be quite damaging to the body.

I agree with both orevious posts. Eat more and maybe try carb backloading.

No, you do not use your desired weight to determine your needs. That would put you in too much of a deficit and cause your metabolism to slow down. Here is some good information on why you don't want to go to low and things to focus on if you are struggling to lose weight.…

I agree with the others. More calories and exchange some protein calories for fat calories.

I am O+ also and I do WAY better with weight loss when I use coconut oil/coconut milk in my diet. Do you normally have carbs with breakfast? If so drinking the BP coffee may have caused a headache from being lower carb than you are used to.

If you're on facebook there is a group called Paleo Pregnancy and Beyond. Lots of great info there and like minded parents to discuss paleo parenting and feeding your kids this way.
