  • She doesn't want real advice that would actually be beneficial to her. She wants someone to validate her plan to starve herself because she has an ED. I admire the patience of all the people who have been trying to help her out in this thread, but you'll all just keep going around in circles because she won't listen to…
  • Perhaps she meant to say she has a thinly disguised eating disorder?
  • I just wanted to say hi! I joined the group last night. I'm not going to start SL until around February because I'm finishing up NROLFW (almost done with stage 5!). I haven't really seen the results I was hoping for from NROL so I'm switching it up!
  • My goal right now is to fit into an old pair of nice black jeans I haven't been able to wear in years. I think they were designed by the devil himself because when I lay them out on top of another pair of jeans that currently fits me, the goal jeans don't seem to be any smaller at all. And yet I can't get them up past my…
  • We need your passive-aggressive fake positivity even less than we need yet another rehashing of the muscle versus fat explanation. Since this doesn't belong in this part of the forum you should just delete this instead of getting all high and mighty about posting in the wrong place.
  • I used to avoid the scale during my period (PS, why doesn't any woman on MFP say "period" or "menstruation" for ****'s sake) because I assumed I would be bloated. But then I weighed myself almost every day for a while and realized that I gain weight while I'm ovulating and it usually goes away by the time my period starts.
  • I have an elliptical at home and I find that it really underestimates the distance I go. In fact I wonder if something is wrong with it or the display because there's no way after 15 minutes I've only gone a quarter-mile. (My usual WALKING speed is around 3.5 mph.. when the sidewalks aren't totally iced over...)
  • Halfway through Stage 2 now! One benefit that I'm getting now and didn't really get in Stage 1 is that I sleep like a log! Usually it takes me a while to fall asleep but for the past week or so, I'm out the moment my head hits the pillow. It's not 100% due to the new workouts, but I do appreciate it.
  • I'm in Canada and get my workout clothes at Old Navy. They're pretty good quality and they usually have really good prices. I love my Old Navy shirt and jacket especially (the jacket is an obnoxiously bright pink) - I find their pants can be really hit or miss and I have to get cropped ones because the ankle-length ones…
  • I woke up the day after my second A workout with so much soreness in my abs... I've actually never felt pain there before. When I do jack-knives or crunches or whatever, it's sore while I do it and for a while afterward, but I get over it by the next morning. This time my core feels so tense and sore. I can feel it pretty…
  • Okay, did workout B today. It wasn't as awkward as workout A but it just took so damn long! I don't even want to talk about the Cuban dumbbell thing... I had to drop my weights from 15 pounds to 8 to be able to do it and I had to do sets of 5 instead of 10. I don't think it was an impressive sight. Questions : 1. What is…
  • I think they should rephrase number 3 because taking part in a large-scale science experiment actually sounds kinda cool...
  • Tuna and shrimp are high in protein, low in calories!
  • I just started Stage 2 yesterday. I'd gotten pretty good at the stage 1 workouts, but this is a killer! I found myself thinking "Screw this, I'd rather be fat than do another one-point dumbbell row!" The moment passed, but still. I'm so glad there are only four of each in this stage and no "special" workouts at the end…
  • Have you tried the Oikos which has a layer of honey at the bottom of the pot? I think it's delicious. A lot of people have suggested adding honey to plain Greek yogurt, so with that variety of Oikos you just need to stir it up.
  • I've heard from a lot of people that they felt much better health- and energy-wise after they reduced their daily intake of grain-based carbs. I know the plural of anecdote isn't data, but personally I wouldn't really worry about not being able to hit my target for carbs... I'm very happy on days when I manage to stay well…
  • I have an ultimate goal SIZE of 6. I used to be a size six 5 years ago and the weight sneaked up on me very slowly... I'm now a 10 (or a 12 depending on the brand, but for this I'm going off my jean size at the Gap) but hoping to be down to 8 by June and to 6 by the end of 2012. I don't care how much I weigh as long as I…
  • I'd have finished a lot sooner, but I took 10 days off for Christmas/New Year's (I was out of town) and had to cut back to twice a week during finals.
  • I know this is way off topic but is your profile picture Heidi the cross-eyed opossum?
  • I've been doing workouts from New Rules of Lifting 3 times a week since November 1st (with ten days off for the holidays when I was out of town). I don't know if that qualifies as "serious weight lifting" but probably not - although it sure feels like it for my fitness level  I first got my body-fat % measured in…
  • Ha, thanks. I feel more like #3 because I'm my own worst critic, but I look like #2, except shorter.
  • I used to LOVE this raspberry-flavoured fizzy water, I think it was made by Aquafina... but I haven't seen it in stores in months. I think they don't make it anymore, which sucks because it was about 10 calories for a 500 mL bottle, it tasted amazing and it kept me away from Coke. I'm pretty good at not going overboard…
  • Whether or not you're aware of it, you're coming across as extremely holier-than-thou and condescending. Good for you if you can enjoy life without ever eating anything that's not in season, free-range or organic or contains sugar or preservatives or whatever! But most people can't and you don't have the right to look down…
  • I haven't noticed a change at my gym, thank goodness, but then again it's a pretty small gym, women's only, and not in a super busy part of town. Then again, I've only been once this year because I came down with a cold and the decongestants make me super sleepy - not the safest time to be lifting weights...
  • Be careful there! You might pull a muscle in your shoulder if you continue patting yourself on the back so hard.
  • I thought the reasoning for doing exercises on a Swiss ball is that it helps strengthen your core since you have to exert your muscles to stay upright.... or at the very least improves your balance. From http://ptjournal.apta.org/content/80/6/564.full :Performing curl-up exercises on labile surfaces increased abdominal…
  • My HRM is generally much higher than the machines at the gym or even MFP, which I don't really understand because MFP also has my age, height and everything. For example, yesterday's cardio workout - MFP said I burned 322 calories, RunKeeper said 316, and my HRM said 488! It's a Polar FT7 which I got for Christmas - I…
  • I do it at the gym. I don't have the money OR the space for all the equipment I'd need to do it at home. It's a women-only gym so I don't feel terribly self-conscious though.
  • I'm 5 foot 3 and 172 pounds (that works out to about a size 8-10) and I'm almost finished with stage 1 of NROL4W. I can't think of any reason someone who's overweight couldn't do the program. I have trouble with some of the moves but that's more of a flexibility/general weakness thing and not related to my being pudgy.…
