Lifting helps build muscle and prevents muscle loss in periods of energy deficit, along with a proper intake of protein. More muscle equals higher basal metabolic rate, which equals burning more calories while resting, which aids weight loss. So yeah, go lift heavy. :)

If you have an apple body, you tend to store fat mostly around your vital organs - that is the most dangerous kind of fat. There you have a pretty good point to keep it up with the weight loss. Usually people say they love coffee when they actually love the cream, chocolate and/or sugar they put in it. So yeah, that kind of coffee won't be very helpful at weight loss. Coffee on its own, on the other hand, is a great energy booster and could help you lose weight if you use it wisely. And it's delicious :)
