I do my food shopping there weekly. It's less pricy than A&P and Stop & Shop (I'm in NJ) and has a better selection of organic foods. I have also found that the TJ brand of organic romaine lettuce is nicer than the Earthbound or Nature's Promise - it's fuller and doesn't go bad as fast. I prefer it to Whole Foods and…

I don't know how much time you have but if there's time to reheat meals: I have a thermos that keeps soup hot for about 7 hours. My husband didn't have access to a microwave at work for a period of time, so I put his hot lunches in the thermos. I would make a giant pot on Sunday so I'd just have to heat it up in the…

Hi! I have PCOS - I didn't have a lot to lose (my starting weight was 150 & I'm 5'3), but it has taken me about a year to lose 12 pounds. I cut calories and the first seven pounds came off quickly, but then it was a long stretch of lose 3, gain 2. Upping my healthy fats really helped (nuts & avocado mostly). I'm on the…

My husband was diagnosed with NAFLD last November... since then he's dropped 50 pounds. First he was counting calories using mfp (which got me to start using it again!), but he stopped after awhile. He limited sweets and alcohol. Stopped eating mindlessly and cut back on the amount of bread and cheese he was eating (it was…

East Coaster here, too! Other than hiking/walking (which we didn't do often while dating) ... Find a coffee shop! We have a favorite one that we frequented when we were dating. I know a lot of them have food, but you can go for just coffee/tea and conversation. Most of our early dates were concerts and movies - either at…

I have a yoga app that I'm in love with called Daily Yoga. It has free "classes." I paid for the subscription (it was 50% off when I got it - so 17.99) which sequences the classes for you. There's a two week intro to the poses as well. I also used to use a pretty easy DVD called Yoga for Weightloss with Susanne Deason…

I like my carbs, too - especially rice! My husband and I have also chosen not to buy meat anymore so I'm kinda in the same boat as you. I don't want to give up carbs, but I'd also love to lose this last six pounds and my PCOS belly! One thing I had started to do a few months ago (and stopped recently but need to do again)…

Can I jump on this rant? My husband lost 50 pounds and 4 inches in his waist (!!!) in the time it took me to lose 11pounds and 2 inches (one year). His eating habits were far worse than mine and he had to make huge life/diet changes because of his high liver enzymes (and probable non-alcoholic fatty liver disease) so I'm…

I'm not a vegetarian or vegan, but my diet tends to consist of meals without meat - especially in the winter. I gave up dairy milk and ice cream which has made a huge difference in how I feel overall. I've been adding avocado to my salads to keep me fuller longer. My biggest problem is that I don't eat soy - I have PCOS…

I feel the same way you do. I know it only masks the symptoms, but it also has reduced the hair growth on my neck, my cramps aren't as bad, and it makes me feel normal. By normal I mean I don't get the hormonal crazies that come with getting my period sporadically. It also kick started my ovulation so it's good to know…

My goal for November is to do yoga daily. I really want to be more dedicated in my practice - I really liked how I felt when I was doing it every day over the summer. Unfortunately I'm sick and have missed the first two days of the month... Hopefully I can start tomorrow!

My husband just bought this book (for every book that is bought, one is donated to a family in need), but here's the free .pdf. It's how to eat well on about $4/day! https://8b862ca0073972f0472b704e2c0c21d0480f50d3.googledrive.com/host/0Bxd6wdCBD_2tdUdtM0d4WTJmclU/good-and-cheap.pdf We both work jobs that pay a decent…

We have roughly the same goal! I'm 5'3. I started at 148 and I'm currently 139. My goal is 125-130... It'll depend on how I feel when I get to 130. The first seven pounds came off quickly (Nov-Feb), but then came some plateaus and a five pound gain in July (following the doc's recommendation of a B12 shot). My weightloss…

I was only diagnosed in May and since I've been on anti-depressants to help me sleep, I've had more energy. I've never really hit a wall/limit - I just could never do anything once I got home from work (I work with behavioral students on the spectrum). Now that I'm sleeping better I can do more, but I still don't do a lot.…

I loved that film! I thought it was great and really informative, but I have never done a juice fast. I have a physically demanding job (working in an ABA program from children with autism and behavioral issues) so my concern is that I wouldn't have enough energy. I've just tried to incorporate fresh juice into my diet -…

Hi! And welcome! :) I am not on Metformin nor have I taken Clomid (I'm not trying to conceive - yet), but my cousin's wife has PCOS and had to take Clomid for her second pregnancy. The first pregnancy was a surprise - as in she didn't think she could get pregnant and therefore didn't take the necessary precautions to…

I have PCOS as well and I've seen gluten/wheat free diets recommended pretty frequently - mostly on pcosdiva.com. She's a health coach who really believes that is the way we should be eating. A lot of the women I've come across in the PCOS groups are on low carb-high fat/ paleo/ ketogenic diets. They're happy and seem to…

I have PCOS as well and for us it is not always as simple as calories in/calories out because of other factors such as our hormone levels and problems processing sugar/carbs. There's a great group on here that is a wealth of information - P.C.O.Sis. It's pretty active and there are tons of posts that you may find helpful.…

I take Elavil - it's an antidepressant. My doc gave it to me to help me sleep. I'm still in the process of officially be diagnosed. I went to my husband's GP for a physical/blood work for the the first time in ten years. I told her about my migraines and inability to sleep through the night. I typically wake up 2-6 times.…

My favorite thing ever is when my Fertile Myrtle friend who got pregnant with fraternal twins on the first try (and is likely to have twins again if they go for more kids) texts me to tell me about random patients who have PCOS and like a billion kids so I shouldn't worry. She means well, but it's really annoying.

Congratulations on the progress you're making!!! That's fantastic! It's great that MFP has made such a positive impact on your health and life :)

I've heard the no cold water thing before - when my aunt was doing a homeopathic cancer treatment in 2008 she was told not to drink cold water with meals as it slows digestion.

Hi! I have PCOS (diagnosed in 2004) and I am just starting to venture into the low carb world.... I am not seriously overweight and I'm not insulin resistant (just got blood work done!), but I get really sick when I have too much sugar. I also have a lot of stubborn belly fat that I can't seem to get rid of no matter what…

My favorite was Yasmin - I had a terrible time when I was switched to the generic Ocella and requested to be put back on Yasmin. Then all the law suits happened and my friend had an embolism from being on it. Another friend works for a pharmaceutical company and kept trying to get me to stop taking it. My insurance doesn't…

I'm trying to get back on track myself... I lost 8 pounds between Nov and Feb, but then just plateaued. I've lost another 2 lbs, but it's been super slow going. I get tired of quinoa, veggies, and salads pretty quickly also. I am usually very anti fruit in salad, but I had one with strawberries one day and it was really…

I don't know how much we go back to normal, but from everything I have read over the last 10 years (I was diagnosed in 2004 at 22) weight loss, exercise, and a healthy diet (eliminating processed foods, added sugar, and junk) should help alleviate the symptoms. It seems that the rule of thumb is losing 10% of our weight…

I had a great experience with Yasmin also. I was put on it because it doesn't have any androgens. I've had HORRIBLE experiences with the generic version (Ocella) and one called Zara or something like that. I was miserable - facial hair got worse and my face was super greasy. I also had migraines and horrible ovary pain -…

I had a friend who did laser, but she hadn't completed the treatments when we last spoke years ago. I was doing elos hair removal for a few years. It's not laser - it's some other kind of light technology - and it was offered in my gyno's office. I was tired of shaving and trimming so I wanted to try something (anything!)…

^ This is what I was going to say. You still have to read all the labels when buying processed food, even if it's gluten free. There tend to be a lot of additives to make it taste "better." I bought the book Wheat Belly (I have a PCOS belly and thought maybe it would be helpful), but haven't gotten a chance to read it yet.…
