  • Hi all! Keeping track of what I put into my mouth seems to be key in controlling my weight loss. If I don't log, I lose sight of what I should be doing and go back to my old eating habits. By keeping myself accountable, I'm much more successful in losing the extra lbs!! Keep up the good work and stick with it!!
  • I take Zumba class twice a week and if I could take it everyday I would!!! Love it!!! Teri

  • I did WW online from last April through this past February, then I found this place and switched over. I love this place just as much as WW, but this site is FREE, which works better for me. Nice to meet ya! Teri
  • I totally agree! The way our clothes fit us (better) is a great indication that we're doing something good, something positive for ourselves and that it's working! I hate the scale! And congrats on fitting into the shirt!!
  • Happens to me everytime I get on the elliptical too!!! So leaning back and releasing the handles, huh? I'll have to give that a try. Thought it was just me!! And thanks for the links to previous topics! Teri

  • Good luck to you!!! This site is fantastic and extremely helpful!
  • Welcome, Amy! Good luck with your journey, this is a great site and an extremely helpful message board.
  • Hi Ruth. Last April I was 42 and weighed 204 lbs. I'm 5'1" so I was pretty big. Here it is one year later and I HAVE lost 60 lbs and am still losing. It CAN be done. Stick with it and keep the faith!! Good luck to you!
  • I lost 50 lbs on WW doing it online, then reached a plateau that I could not break. Someone turned me on to MFP, which is FREE. I did the math, and have lost another 10 lbs since joining MFP (and saved myself $16.95/month). Is WW a great program? Yes. Is MFP a great program? Yes. Points or calories, it all adds up, but…
  • That's fantastic!! You should definitely be proud of them but they should also be proud of you for setting such a great example! We are also a running family. We've completed several 5K's with our girls, ages 12 and 10, and last weekend we volunteered at a race that benefitted the Audobon Society. It was good for my girls…
  • I was just telling my running partner tonight, I feel like I've turned a corner with my running. For the first almost full year, I ran, I lost a ton of weight but was always struggling through, but more recently, I've become really comfortable with distances. My breathing is much easier, my stride is great and I'm not…
  • Great suggestions!! I have several Rubbermaid 1 quart water bottles and use one everyday. I take it to work and usually like to finish one full quart before lunch, then fill it at lunch and have the second quart in the afternoon. That's my full 8 cups, so anything after that is icing on the cake. If I workout after work…
  • That's fantastic news!!! Keep up the good work!! Milestones like that make it worth staying on track!!
  • Zumba has most definitely contributed to my weight loss. And not only is it a great weight loss tool but it's also a blast!!! Our instructor is great and makes every class so much fun and so enjoyable it's like you're just dancing for an hour and don't even feel like you're exercising. Good luck!!

  • Hi Jen!! I'm also a new runner. Well, new-ish. I started running almost exactly a year ago. I ran my first 5K in June of last year, my goal was just to finish. I did just that. I finished dead last with a time of 41.40 but I did it. After a few more 5K's I did a 10K last October. In just 2 weeks I'll be doing my first Half…
  • Why is it that we KNOW that the scale just represents a number, and it's how we FEEL in when we look in the mirror or try on a pair if jeans or a swim suit, yet when the scale says something we don't want to see, we let it get us down? I'm guilty of this and it bugs the crap out of me. I KNOW the scale is only a number,…

  • Hi Nancy. What a coincidence! We are participating in the Relay for Life here in Shepherdstown, WV. My husband (a nontraditional student at Shepherd University) is on the Corporate Sponsorship Committee for the Relay and both my daughters and I are walking! Bekah, I'm so sorry to hear about your mom! I will keep her in my…
  • Hi Shannon, I've found that logging is the BEST way to stay honest with myself and in doing so, it has helped me shed the pounds. It's taken me since last April to lose the weight that I have, and I still have at least 20 more to lose. Keep logging, exercise whenever you can and log that as well. I have two girls myself…
  • Thank you for posting this! Great advice!!
  • These are the truest words ever. FINALLY at age 42, I've learned that it's not just going on a diet, losing weight, then going off the diet and starting the cycle all over again. I've FINALLY gotten it through my head that it is a LIFESTYLE change. I have to continue to be careful even after I've hit my goal. I have to…
  • Spammy I LOVE it when the scale goes down. Good for you!!!
  • What a great thread!! Thank you so much for all the info!!! Great resource!!
  • Nope, not yet. I'm still mulling it over.
  • Lady Gaga has some good tracks, and I've got such a wide variety on my iPod it's sick. Pitbull's Calle Oche, All-American Rejects' Move Along, Devo's Whip It, Technotronic's Pump Up The Jam, Finger Eleven's Paralyzer, Fall Out Boy's Thanks for the Memories. My iPod looks like it's owned by a crazy person.
  • Going for a run again this morning with Lisa. If she wants to push me beyond 6.2 miles today, I'm throwing her in the river where we run. Any of you LADIES ever blog? You can blog on here and I'd LOVE to read more from you guys than just posts. I'm thinking of trying it. I've actually made a friend on here from Australia…
  • OMG Lisa and I ran 8 miles on the canal today. Thank God she's there to push me. I started to walk after 7 miles and she slow jogged beside me for a bit and then encouraged me (ok she said "Come on, girl, you're not tired, let's kick out this last mile" and it motivated me. I finished 8 miles in 1 hour 29 mins and burned…
  • Amen to that, racer!!! We absolutely need to take time for ourselves or we'll be no good to our children. I LOVE LOVE LOVE Zumba and wish it were offered more than 3 times a week at my gym. It's such a great workout and I love to dance so it's not even like exercise, it's just hardcore dancing for an hour! I am also a…
  • My Wake Up Shape Up instructor is subbing for the Kickboxing instructor tomorrow. If the class was a little later in the day I'd try it, but there's no way I'm getting up for an 8:30 class. However, I AM running 6 miles tomorrow THEN doing Aaron's Evacuate the Dancefloor class at 1.
  • Last night at Zumba, I was right in front of Aaron. He stands in the front of the room between the doors where there are no mirrors, so basically, I'm stuck either looking at him or the door. Not that he's not great to look at but after a few songs I feel creepy constantly in his face, so I moved over to the side of the…
  • If you click on your home or on message boards, you can find your recent posts, and as long as you've posted here at least once, it'll bring you here. Our little home away from home. Definitely need to keep it clean, since these people don't know us. ;) I'm not obsessed with the scale but I am finding that I'm becoming…
