  • That's cool that you're racing on your wedding day. Though I'm sure my mom would have freaked out if I did that too. When's the special day?
  • Letty, you could definitely do a half marathon if you've already got a couple of 8 +/- milers under your belt. And fwiw, i run alone all the time. Honestly, i can't even remember the last time i ran with someone...none of my friends run. I'm lucky if i see the same people on occassion when I'm out running and not on the…
  • My training doesn't start until the last week of July, but thought i'd pop in now. I'll probably be running 5.5-6 miles 3x a week and one longer run on the weekends until training starts. Today, however, I'm taking the day off, lol. Went hiking for the first time in a LONG time on Saturday and ran just under 5 yesterday…
  • Hi everyone! I truly believe you can never have enough support. I'll hit add for all of you and if post later and want to add me, feel free! Lisa
  • Morning ladies, I'm just about to leave for my run. Let's see, if I'm runnng on the tm, I average around 10:30- 10:45 pace. If I'm running outside, it's ususally closer to 10:20. Though there are days when i do a LSD (long slow distance) and i drop it down to 11 min mile. My race paces for shorter races (right now) is…
  • Hi Amy, I hope you don't mind me butting in here, but honestly, i don't think it's that important to run 13 prior to the race. I know some people like to do it so that they know that they can, but I have never done 13 miles outside of a race. i think i did between 11 and 12 each time, and may have even only done 10.5 one…
  • i agree with the above poster that improperly fitted shoes can cause problems. 200 miles though is on the low side though for needing new shoes. You should be able to get between 400-500 miles per pair of shoes if they are the rights ones for your gait. If you have not had a gait analysis done at a running store, i highly…
  • great article. Thanks for posting!
  • Hi, I'm doing my 4th half marathon October 17th (Denver). I believe my "official" training starts the last week in July and I'm following Hal Higdon's Intermediate half marathon plan. (http://www.halhigdon.com/halfmarathon/index.htm can follow the link to novice, intermediate and advanced plans if anyone's looking for a…
  • Another New Balance Fan here. Currently, I'm running in 1223s and 767s. I have a pair of 859s that are technically retired, but I'm doing the Warrior Dash next month ( http://www.warriordash.com/register2010_rockies.php ) so, I'm going to use them then and then toss them after all the mud. I've been running in New Balances…
  • Welcome Mark, glad you found MFP. Good luck on your Tri!

  • I'm running my 4th half marathon on October 17th (although 10/10 is a great day....it's my birthday :drinker: ). I'd google Hal Higdon's half marathon plans and look at his beginner plan. it's a good one for a first timer. I'm doing his intermediate this time around and I believe I start "officially training" the last week…
  • I'm not sure what the RDA is for potassium, but i googled and here are some potassium rich foods: Aside from the aforementioned cantaloupe, potassium rich foods include: Bananas Oranges Apricots Avocado Pears Strawberries Mangos Papaya Potatoes Tomatoes Cucumber Cabbage Cauliflower Chard Bell pepper Eggplant Squash Crimini…
  • Stormie, I completely understand. I am going through the same thing and after a LONG time, i am just starting to lose weight, albeit VERY slowly. i spent way too long eating around 1200-1300 cals, running 4-5 mi 4x a week and lifting weights....and GAINING weight. My metabolism was fried. When i restarted logging in May, i…
  • The general rule is, if it's above the neck, then you're okay to exercise. If it's below the neck (i.e., lungs) take some time off. So, if it's just a head cold, and you're up to it, then it's okay to exercise. HTH...and feel better soon.
  • I'm very sorry for your loss. I realize that there is not much any of us can say that will make you feel better. When I was in HS i had a friend commit suicide. There's a whole host of emotions you will go thru, including depression, anger and eventually acceptance. It was so hard to accept that someone close to me felt so…
  • Bump! Thanks, this looks great :)
  • LOL, looks like we were posting at the same time. Great minds... :drinker:

  • It could definitely be your body adjusting, but I just wanted to make sure you are wearing running shoes and not cross trainers or "regular" (tennis, etc.) sneakers. Running shoes are made to absorb some of the impact. Also, if you are running outside, please do NOT run on sidewalks. It's much harder on your body,…

  • i actually go by the scale more than a measuring tool (cup/spoon). especially for cereal. i found that 1 cup of kashi go lean crunch weighed much more than a serving size (53g) and i was probably eating at least 50 cals worth more. so for cereal, i go by grams now. Oh and peanut butter and almond butter, i go by grams…
  • How about "listen" to a book while you're walking? Your public library has a lot of books available for download and they can be put on your computer and transferred to an ipod/mp3 player. Every once in a while, i'll put a book on mp3 player and listen to it while raking the leaves. Think i listened to books 3&4 of the…
  • That's not a small victory--it's a HUGE victory! Congrats :flowerforyou:
  • Are you eating 1300-1400 cals or netting 1300-1400 cals? Because if you are only eating 1300-1400 and doing Insanity on top of that, you are NOT providing your body with enough fuel so it is holding onto everything you put into your body because it's not getting enough. If you are netting 1300-1400 cals, try upping it by…
  • Glad you're ok. I live in the suburbs of Denver and a couple of times a year, the sirens go off. I'm originally from NY and I had no idea that tornados happened here until i moved here. The first time I heard them, I think i freaked out, lol. The closest one has come within 2-3 miles of my house, but you never know. But…
  • Welcome to MFP! Glad you've joined us :)
  • Hi there! Welcome to MFP... I sent a friend request :)
  • I personally think it's way too low and manually switched mine to 75g. that way i can have a piece of fruit (or 2) and dairy (milk, yogurt) and not have it go over. either that or you could keep it the same and mentally subtract out your fructose and lactose from whatever your number is. obviously, if you're a diabetic,…
  • Hmm, for me, running outside is MUCH easier then running on my tm...unless i'm doing speedwork and then the tm can keep me at faster paces whereas I'd likely slack off on my own. I get into the zone faster outside and I can run for well over an hour outside, plus I actually run faster per mile outside. maybe it's the…
  • Do you have a crockpot? I absolutely love this one (and i've added more veggies on occassion...shredded carrots, baby corn, etc.) http://crockpot365.blogspot.com/2008/01/crockpot-hot-and-sour-soup-recipe.html
  • That's an amazing time! Be proud :) :drinker: I've been running for years and my fastest is 27 min :embarassed: my little legs just don't seem to want to go fast.( But I can sure run long and not have it bother me)
