  • Thank you! It's not always easy to stay positive but the encouragement from the community here really helps. I'd heard it was a problem for a lot of people but always had that "it'll never happen to me" mindset... boy was that dangerous. Luckily the resources available here and otherwise were very helpful. Thanks! So do…
  • Thank you! Surgery is such a process, and I've come to discover that self-awareness and self-love are so important. I'm glad that you got something out of this post and congrats to you on 5 months!
  • Dumping for sleevers is definitely real. It happened to me when I ate frozen yogurt (thought I had the low-sugar version, but I didn't) and I almost went to the hospital. It was miserable.
  • I was sleeved 1/30/15, feel free to add me too!
  • Rob, I love reading about your journey. Watching your success has been so inspirational to people like me, who are still relative newbies. Congrats on how far you've come!
  • The day I got my surgery date was one of the most exciting ever. Now I'm 2 months out and things are flying by. Best of luck, you're going to do great!
  • I've gotten a lot of comments lately that are all over the spectrum, and I'm right at 47lbs lost overall. The people I tend to see frequently have a lot of positive and uplifting things to say, like "I can see a really big difference, your hard work is paying off, etc." but some acquaintances have said some strange things.…
  • Your metabolism will reset slower with lower calorie intake - but when you start eating more, it will adjust to that too. I think you're doing great with your intake, definitely ahead of where I was at that stage!
  • After reading all of these I feel like I don't eat very much! I'll be 7 weeks out tomorrow and most days I really struggle to hit 700/750. If left to my own devices, I was only getting about 450 a day. But I hit a small stall and decided to up my calories (it worked, 6 lbs down in one week!) I will say, though, that I…
  • I tell absolutely anyone and everyone! I've noticed that rather than negative feedback, people usually say that they've been educated or inspired to think about taking control of their own health. Anyone who sees me on a regular basis knows that surgery isn't an easy way out, because they know how hard I'm working. I'm a…
  • This! I read a blog post where the woman said, "would you congratulate someone on pounding in nails with their fists because they refused to use a hammer? No. It doesn't make sense to feel bad about using the best tools available to you." There's no shame in WLS. It's one of the very best (if not THE best) tool we have to…
  • So happy everything has been going well for you! Best wishes with adjusting to your new life :)
  • I'm two weeks out and I can eat about 4oz of food at a time, unless it is very dense. My doctor just allowed refried beans and cottage cheese into my diet, and it's probably closer to 3-3.5oz of that at a time. I think my sleeve is on the larger side, though.
  • So amazing and inspiring!
  • Devi, I am six days out and my recovery has been hard. But I feel SO much better today. Just know you'll start to feel normal soon. Best of luck!
  • Best of luck!
  • Ketosis definitely causes bad breath - I experienced it with every low carb diet I tried. Parsley is good, and there are new studies out that say a compound in green tea can neutralize it too. Although I think it equates to drinking seven cups a day, which I know is more green tea than I can handle.
  • So glad to know I'm not alone with a rough recovery! Today has been a lot better. The gas pains are hanging on, but a dose of pain meds every six hours or so has been keeping it under control. I met my protein goal for the day and I'm close to getting all of my water in too, so everything seems to be on track. Rob, your…
  • I started my pre-op diet two weeks ago (surgery is tomorrow! eek!) and in the weeks leading up to it, I had a lot of "food funerals." I regret it now, because I started out heavier than I should've. The first few days of my pre-op diet were REALLY hard, and I was terrified that I wouldn't make it. But the more good choices…
  • After reading everyone's replies, I looked at the nutrition facts on my protein shakes. For reference, I'm on HMR 800 shakes, supposedly they're specifically formulated for weight loss. Each one has 20 grams of sugar! My dietician specifically told me that I couldn't do premiere protein because they were too high calorie,…
  • Thanks guys! I'll try to add in a little more protein and see what happens. Maybe I'll add some lemon to my water and see if it flushes out any extra too. Or try a stool softener! At this point I'm willing to try anything!
  • Thank you everyone for sharing your thoughts! I, also, had to have a psych evaluation as part of my approval process. I was immediately cleared with no restrictions (which, she said, is pretty rare for their program). I do, however, have a couple of concerns that I don't think the basic eval addressed. First, I'm concerned…
  • That made me laugh out loud! I wonder what the purpose of having that question on a psych exam could possibly be!
  • Oh my gosh did we grow up in my family? If you don't have seconds or thirds it's automatically a huge guilt trip "Oh you didn't like it! Why did I spend all this time cooking then?" but constant cutting remarks behind my back (and sometimes to my face) about my weight.
  • Welcome! MFP is great, especially if you stay active in the forums and make lots of friends. Good luck!
  • You look great!! How inspiring!
  • So glad to hear about your positive experience, and congrats on the weight loss, you look great!
  • The law firm I work for is a plaintiff's firm and we deal with insurance companies every day.... this sounds really, really familiar. If you can't get them to work with you soon I would consider hiring an attorney. Even a demand letter on a law firm's letterhead can be enough sometimes. My advice is to document, document,…
  • My mantra is "progress, not perfection." It's what I tell myself every time I fight and fail and start again on this journey. I'm still pre-surgery, so I can't 100% relate to the struggle you're having, but even I know you're not a failure! This whole process is so hard, be proud of the work you're doing! We're all here…
