I am the "daughter" in this scenario. -Don't give your daughter compliments or criticism on her body, eating, fitness, etc. Even if it's from a "health" perspective, which I'm sure it is, at this point your daughter doesn't trust any of your motives behind your advice. -Don't suggest that your daughter get salad or…

I understand the thing with weighing food and logging every calorie and why it's helpful for a lot of people. Honestly, though, I never used a food scale previously, and as I said, I've lost 50 lbs successfully. But you're absolutely correct--it's easy to have errors. I'll be more scrupulous with my intake over the next…

I can try this. I don't have problems with measuring out portions when I eat food and I've implemented this into my lifestyle very successfully. But weighing food and logging it turns into an obsession for me.

In my opinion, the goal of MFP for me is/was to help me get to a point where I can make educated correct eating decisions and maintain a healthy lifestyle. For me, maintaining a healthy lifestyle is not logging every single thing I eat for the rest of my life. I've successfully lost 50 lbs over a couple years (a choice to…

I'm in general frustrated with this particular plateau because it seems that I've tried all the usual tricks and familiar culprits: I've gone 3-weeks without alcohol at all, didn't lose a pound...Added it back in and didn't gain a pound either. Added significantly more protein to my diet--nothing happened, etc.
-
I should mention-- The reason I don't log or measure "every little thing" I eat is because I dealt with an eating disorder previously. Also, my calorie goal is set at 1300 a day and I've been trying to make a healthy lifestyle for the past 4 years--I'm very well aware of what portion sizes look like, are healthy, etc...I…

You look amazing!!!

I know how that feels. 2 Years ago I lost a lot of weight and gained aaallll of it back, plus 10 more pounds after I got in a car accident. This pas 6 months I've lost more than I ever did before, and for most of the summer I couldn't exercise bc I tore my MCL and ACL. Just ask yourself this: is what you want to eat really…

My favorite is Tazo Awake Tea. I also like Stash's Chai, and Lyons Irish Breakfast tea....so good! I drink it with sugar and cream/half and half...I'll never try to "cheat" with that.

well said

I love what you said about how people who are new here might not know and will do this thinking its right....This is so true! Also, it's usually pretty easy to tell if people are eating low caloric content bc of an eating disorder or not...Based on the type of posts they have, anyway.

I think it counts...If it's truly "serious" cleaning. Your general vacuuming and stuff, I don't count. But when I move furniture or stuff like that, I log it. As circuit training!
-
Yep! Hard boiled eggs are the number 3 item in my "most used" on MFP :)
-
I never say anything, bc I don't know if people *planned* to cheat, or go over on fat, or sugar, or whatever. Sometimes I deliberately don't eat my exercise cals back and then on the weekend will have a bit of an indulgence---being 300 cals over on pizza or a drink..And I log it honestly, but then someone will comment and…

Without debating whether it's good/better/best to be vegan, that study is seriously flawed. Always think critically when someone extrapolates their results and makes sweeping, broad conclusions that have nothing to do with the actual data collected. Problems just in reading your blurb: 1) Mice are not humans 2) Mice are…

A common side effect of birth control is weight gain....I doubt it's that everyone started stuffing their face with 3500 cals a day. That's what a "side effect" means. It means they've determined that the CAUSE of weight gain, is the birth control.

This. Happened to me last year and sucked. I lose a lot slower than I used to, with "eating carbs"---I don't try for a ratio or anything...But I do lose, and it's been more likely (so far) to stay off.
-
YES! This is so me! I get really embarrased. I think it's maybe because I never like to think of other people seeing me as *fat* or *chubby*...So when they comment on my weight loss, it makes me think I was somehow a bad person when I was bigger, and that I'm so much more valuable now, smaller.
-
I used to not eat them, and saw decent results... Now I definitely eat them--my lifestyle has become more "active" I guess you could say. I bike to and from work each day (6.4 miles total) and usually run, swim, or walk or something as well--I kept my activity level at "sedentary" and log the biking and the other cardio…

Actually I haven't changed my question. You can read my original post, it hasn't been edited. The title of this thread is "WHY are some people jerks on mfp? (philosophically)" So I'm wondering, why, at the *heart* of the matter--are there so many jerks on mfp--and yes, I'm wondering what *other people* think on this topic.…
-
I haven't ever read a "why are people jerks" thread. Yes, I've read a "MFP people are so mean!" thread, multiple times. And I'm aware of how seemingly benign threads descend into drama....Why do they descend into drama--I perceive it to be because of jerks inciting inflammatory responses with poisonous statements which…

special snowflakes--hahaha I like that. Maybe you're right...Idk though, I'm not just talking about the obvious 400 cal threads...

I guess that's true...I went to school at a really opinionated place--and political things definitely got nasty. Also, it's really cool that you have ferrets!
