I weigh myself once a month. It keeps me from discouragement and going crazy...

Thank you for the enlightenment. I can really relate to this. I know the public means well, and (especially Americans) will resort to sating the sweet, and fat tooth. I am not down on Americans, as I am also American. We could learn a lot from the Asian cultures on what to feed our bodies with. Bring Atkins bars with you…

You also have to take into consideration the caloric needs to just keep your heart beating and organs functioning. I thought it was way too much to go with 1384 calories a day (MFP) but if I go to the gym and do a 500-700 calorie burn, I need to "pay back" my body for the energy spent during the workout. I find it easiest…

Thank you, again for all of your input. 1) My doctor said my food choices are great but since I keep teetering 5 lbs up, 7 lbs down, 3 lbs up., .The yoyo effect is not good for the body, so I will indeed add more calories by using the suggested high protein, higher calorie foods. I think I will be adding more avocado and…

I am in the same boat. I would like to friend you so we can share our ideas. I hope you will accept.

Awesome job! Please look into the thread I started about "caloric needs and metabolism" and give me some wisdom, please. I can use all the advice I can get.

Thank you all for your input. I have kept my food diary private and only my trainer has access to it. MFP cautions people to weigh all of the suggestions I receive in the columns, and at this time I am confused and my head is spinning off into another dimension. I see many of you are very active people, builders and toners…

Try Atkins. Low carbs, low sugar. You wouldn't know it by the taste! Yummmmmm! However, the product line uses sugar alcohols, kind of like Sorbitol acts on the body. Limit your self to 2 items a day or you will quite literally spend a lot of your day on the toilet. That's how I beat my chocomonster...

I got a fitbit flex, and all I can seem to do with it is track my sleeping patterns and my walks. Sometimes it won't track my sleep. I sync the #*&^ thing first and it still only works about 1/2 the time. I have searched for more info on it because the little booklet that came with it doesn't tell you diddly. Any advise on…

Most of the protein powders out there taste yucky, and are grossly over priced. I found one called Vega- Protein & Greens that I use a lot. It has a fruit flavor, and doesn't have a chemical aftertaste. The one drawback to it is the berry flavor of the powder tastes artificial to me. Still, it's better tasting than many…

On the days when I work with my trainer early in the morning, I eat a 3 egg breakfast (he recommended it), with a wholegrain English muffin, and a banana. It steels my wool until lunch time, easy.

I use the handles on the treadmill to keep track of my heartbeat. It also keeps me from stumbling. I think it's a mind "thang". I get a little wobbly if I let go of the handles.

I have a Weight Watchers scale, but it's battery powered and digital, and I just don't trust it. I see my doc every 3 months, and I weigh in on her scale. It is maintained well and I trust it more.

WOW! Thank you all for your interest in this thread! You have all given me much to think upon. I see my doctor in March and I will be seeing my nutritionist as well, taking my diabetes and kidney issues to the table. My kidneys aren't real bad, but I do take meds to prevent stone production. I do circuit training and…

I hear about eating fresh fruit over canned fruit all of the time. That's well and good, but I will pop 4 or 5 large strawberries into my bullit, and WOW! That's a lot of sugar. I know it's better that popping a Snickers bar and has fiber and vitamins to boot. Nature doesn't create sugar free fruit, so I have had to limit…

I ordered a low carb protein blast at the gym today that gave me 54 grams of protein. Great stuff for replenishing my muscles after a hard workout, while keeping the carbs low. Instead of dairy, they use water and it still came out thick and frosty.

I have been struggling with a certain pre-packaged meal "plan" which will remain nameless because I don't want to appear to be promoting the program or its products. That being said, the lunch and dinner entrees are tasty, and reflect an Italian flair (yummy), but contain about 25% of my sodium allowance in one entree. I…

I also use organic chia seeds. I sprinkle them in my hot dishes, salads and my smoothies. They make a great thickener to soups and stews. I even put them in my oatmeal. No bad side effects yet. :)

I just invested in a Fitbe flex, and I am having trouble getting it set up on my computer. It seems there is something preventing my download that is part of my computer, and it was suggested I just put it on my cell phone. I am taking both my Fitbit device and my phone over to my carrier next week to get some instruction…

I take meds to decrease the sodium and calcium in my urine, so I don't form anymore stones. I guess I should check in with my Urologist on the subject.

I always start up my training session with a 10 minute warm up on the treadmill, at a walk. My knees are terrible, so I can't run anymore. If I choose to, I can go back to the treadmill when my session is done with my trainer. I used to do water aerobics, but my feet were reacting to the pool chemicals, so I get my cardio…

I use Vega Protein & Greens powder in my strawberry smoothies. 20 g per scoop. It has a berry flavor, but I use 1/2 scoop, because it interferes a little with the taste of my real strawberries if I use a full scoop.

I recently bought 2 3lb dumbbells. My trainer laughed and said I should have bought 5 pounders. That floored me. I use them while sitting in my recliner to work out my arms and lats. I get up a good sweat and do not see why I got laughed at. I will have to check out this Julien Michaels "thangie".

never heard of it but I do shop Whole Foods...I will have to look for it and try it. Thanx for the tip! :D

I have been instructed by my trainer to eat a high protein snack after my workout to halp "mend" my muscles after a hard workout. My workouts are just for weight loss and toning, not building muscle, so I don't really concern myself with the science behind this stuff. It werkz 4 me. ;)

I use food low on the glycemic scale, since I am type 2 diabetic. Try to avoid processed foods when you can. It takes some getting used to. Watch your dairy consumption, and use wisdom when portioning fruit, and avoid canned veggies and canned fruit. Your body runs best on fresh, "live" food like fresh veggies and high…

I watch it occasionally, but I am sick to death of the re-runs. I have to have the candy and pizza "stuff" out of my house, or I will eat it. I just don't buy it. I think the weight is covering up a deeper psychological problem, usually stemming from childhood "issues" (bullying, molestation, stuff like that). I'm not a…

I drink mainly water, no flavored soda. I have concocted an awesome homemade limeade using squeezed lemon juice, Perriea (can't spell it right) water and a splash of Rosies lime juice. The sweetener in the lime juice is just enough sweetness to make it palatable. I love it! You have to like sour stuff, however...

I make a great vegetable beef soup, but I am looking for some ideas to give it more flavor. I currently use a low sodium beef base along with my stew meat, but it still comes out fairly bland. I tried organic steak and chop seasoning, but that only made it too peppery for me. I am looking for something that will replace…

I like my white fish. I have been buying Swai fillets for a long time from my local grocer, but they stopped selling it, claiming they are now endangered. After researching the subject, I find the claim is bogus. It is getting more popular in the US, so I would suppose they will bring it back at double the price. If I am…
