  • I frequently make a big pot of vegetable soup. I log the information for each individual item I put into the soup using the recipe builder. If it's a can of corn or a diced up potato or frozen peas...whatever it is I look it up and log the entire amount. When I finish the soup I have a huge number of calories but then I…
  • OK, so I uninstalled the app and reinstalled. The step counter is right there on the screen now. The only thing I can think is when I installed it before...I might have refused to allow it access to my location. I think the gps action of the counter needs the location tracker on. Not sure about that. I'm just glad to have…
  • YES! That is exactly how mine was when it was installed on the old phone. I assumed it would be the same on the new phone on the downloaded app, but it isn't. There were three dots that lead to managing stuff within the app and it said the step counter couldn't be turned off. That's great, but I see no place to actually…
  • I just can't find a step counter on it. It says it can track steps, but I'm not seeing where to find it. On my old phone, it was always front and center when I clicked on Samsung Health. I could walk down the hall and watch the counter add my steps. It also wanted me to download another app called Armour Record. I don't…
  • Thanks all! There is a variety of opinions here. I do realize that the taste will be altered, but then the presence of orange in the soup alters the taste. When it's all said and done, what matters is that I like the taste...and I normally love adding coconut milk to things. I am going to give it a shot and see how it…
  • Homemade yogurt in my Instant Pot with Trader Joe's Toasted Coconut Granola in it. And of course, coffee with creamer.
  • While there are no true negative calorie foods, there are things you can eat that will actually burn more in calories in the process of digestion than they contain.
  • If your space is limited, consider investing in an Instant Pot. It is a single pot that can replace many things you own, including a rice cooker. Mine does pressure cooking, slow cooking, rice, yogurt, pot roasts, soups, stews...most anything you want. You can't use it to deep fry, but it can replace so many things.
  • I mash up a small, soft avocado, mix in a tablespoon of salsa, a wee bit of lemon or lime juice, salt, pepper and galic to taste. Then I spread it on a piece of toast. Pure heaven.
  • I think the video is pretty clear that one should exercise for their general health. They said it was second only to stopping smoking for the best thing to do for health. But it will put the burden on food choices more intensely, I think. Even making good food choices is not enough. Practicing good portion control is going…
  • I've never been a breakfast eater. I'm simply not hungry in the morning. A cup of coffee will do just fine. That's if I get up at my normal time. If I get up early and am headed to work early, I do eat because I will be hungry before lunch, if I don't. Toast and fruit or some Cheerios is all I need.
  • My number one weight loss problem right now is portion control. I eat healthy food and I make good choices, but I go over my calorie limit by not keeping my portions lower.
  • I sometimes just mix in part of a jar of organic salsa. You can make your own with fresh tomatoes, spices, peppers, onions...etc. The end result is no preservatives, no or little salt or sugar, but great taste.
  • My best friend went on the 'Eat to Live' diet. It's extremely low carb and low fat with high protein. It's also mostly vegetarian. After a year or so on the diet she experienced hair loss. Her doc said it was due to her diet and she needed to add meat back into her diet. After she did, the hair loss stopped.
  • Best way I know of is walking, drinking lots of water and eating fresh fruits and vegetables. Metamucil or Citrucel works well, but I wouldn't use it habitually.
  • It makes me wonder if they can be made with rice flour or one of the alternatives to wheat flour. Might be worth trying.
  • I love to cook, so I'm not opposed to giving it a try! Hopefully, they will turn out good! Might even try the corn ones.
  • I use those too! I just wondered if there were some a bit lower in calorie. I agree that they taste great and don't taste 'preserved'. I've never seen the uncooked corn ones, but I will sure be looking for them. Thanks for the info!
  • I can relate. I'M 63 and losing is very slow. I finally let go of the thought that I could do this like I did when I was 30. My new feeling is, I don't care how long it takes. As long as I am not seeing a gain I can be patient. One good thing is that there is much less fluctuations due to hormonal changes, water…
  • YES! And don't use one of those cheap ones. The best ones are digital and will give you both ounces and grams. It taught me how easy it is to under-estimate your portions. I don't bother with low calorie things like celery, lettuce, peppers and the like, but for most everything else, yes, weight it.
  • You can start fresh every single day. If you mess up for a day, week, month...whatever, it doesn't matter. You just begin a new day with making good choices. I recently got back to checking-in and logging after being very inactive over the winter and early spring. I get hit hard with seasonal depression and yet, I can…
  • It makes a lot of sense to me because simply counting calories IS inaccurate and it doesn't address the variations in biochemistry. There are so many factors, biochemistry and genetics, physical activity, wide differences in calculating both food and exercise. I've read that they are finding that we need nearly twice as…
  • I'm 5'2" also, and I find losing hard. I'm only down 3-4 pounds too, but I think I know why. The MFP program could not create a calculation for me to lose weight unless I worked out twice a week. I try to make that happen, but sometimes I fall short. That makes my weight loss stagnant. I don't know how many calories you…
  • I stopped watching The Biggest Loser a couple of years ago because stories were starting to come out about how they actually reach some of those goals and some of the unrealistic things people had to do to come in as low as possible on the scale. I've done the dramatic wt loss thing before and it always comes back. Then I…
  • I sometimes order a half order of Cobb salad or Thai salad. Mostly I look at how often I go out. If it's once every week or two, I will go ahead and indulge, but skip dessert and limit alcoholic beverages. If I eat too much, I'll shave a hundred or so calories off the other 6 days of the week and/or plan an extra workout.…
  • If I have to round out calorie intake, which is rare, I will use protein dense black beans, chili beans, navy beans, chickpeas, split peas, lentils or quinoa. I might also go with rice, sparingly or whole wheat noodles. I also can make up a lot of calories with avocado, which is high fat, but it's good fat and they are…
  • I agree that one can eat quite well on healthy food and not spend a ton of money. I do find that organic food is going to cost more, but even then, there are deals to be found. This morning I found boneless chicken breasts on sale at Safeway in the butcher's case for $1.99 a pound. I bought 3.3 pounds and after dividing it…
  • For me, it's bread. I have been baking my own bread for over a year and the carb intake is making weight loss agonizingly slow, if any. Also, my habitual coffee creamer. Both are needing to go, at least for a while. Portion control is a big factor. I need smaller portions and no seconds.
  • I agree. If you are losing weight, logging your exercise seems irrelevant. If you are not losing weight, then it's time to figure out why and you get a clear picture of what you are doing when you log. If that isn't a concern for you then I wouldn't bother.
