Women generally have a more exaggerated spinal curvature, and the size of your butt/hips can also affect whether your back is able to rest flat against the floor. But only your doctor can tell you whether it's normal for you or whether it poses a risk to your health. Do you find it difficult to sit or stand up straight? Do…

It all depends on what your condition is and what kinds of exercises exacerbate the pain. Have you talked to your doctor or a physical therapist about this? Personally, I love the recumbent bike. It's easy to use, I get a good workout without straining my body too much, and it isn't jarring or rough in any way. A lot of…

I want to be fit. I want to be able to run up and down the stairs without getting out of breath. I want to be able to ride my bike everywhere and run and swim. I want to be strong.

Avoid fat as much as humanly possible. This includes dairy, most meats, and anything greasy. Also avoid spicy food. And go to the ER if you develop a fever or other signs of infection, as this could indicate a serious obstruction.

For a short woman at your age and weight, it will be more difficult. What does MFP say your maintenance is? You can find this on your goals page under "your diet profile" as "calories burned from daily activity."

I had a pelvic ultrasound in January plus a regular pelvic exam which involves poking around and feeling my ovaries. So I know everything down there was, at least at the time, okay. But this is a recent development, so I don't know... I have a gyno appointment very soon, should I bring it up?

I have measured my belly. My waist measurement is about 34 when it used to be 33.

Don't worry, it's totally normal. I weighed myself a few weeks ago and panicked because it was at 176. Then a few days later I started bleeding, and then a few days after that I was back down to 171.

I use this at the end of my workout. It makes me feel powerful. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JP_y0JIsEfE

There is no such thing as a negative calorie food. If your body burns 1500 calories a day on its own, and then you eat 1500 calories plus 20 calories in celery, you will still gain 20 calories in fat.

I think I can lose 7-10 lbs by Christmas, but that's only if I can stick to my plans 100% of the time and don't screw up at all.

Possible solutions: - Eat a later lunch - Eat a bigger lunch and a smaller dinner - Have a small breakfast or no breakfast, and use those calories to have a decent-sized snack before dinner - Have a small snack instead of lunch and then have "lunch" right after you get home from work - Divide dinner into two mini meals and…

I find that if I want "something" but can't pinpoint a specific craving and don't actually feel hungry, it's just boredom. Eating foods that we like triggers the reward centers of the brain which is why eating good food is pleasurable. So it makes sense that when you're bored and craving stimulation, you'd have the urge to…

I'm young and I don't need to worry about my cholesterol right now. I'll take the whole egg, please.

I like the carpool idea, but I feel kind of awkward about it. Is it being too much of a burden if I ask a friend for a ride, even if I offer to pay for gas? I just feel like making them go out of their way to help me shop seems really needy. But maybe it isn't. I don't know. I hate asking people for help. Is this a common…

I used to get discouraged. But instead of weighing myself less often or not at all, I weighed myself several times a day so I could become familiar with how my weight fluctuates throughout the day and throughout the week. Once I got used to seeing it jump around, I stopped feeling discouraged when I'd weigh myself and see…

I don't buy clothes anymore because I know they won't fit, and I don't know when I'll buy clothes again. Maybe when I'm down 30 lbs, but I can't bring myself to spend money on something I won't be able to wear.

Do you have any recommendations for inexpensive but reliable heart monitors? I don't need something super fancy, but I'd like something accurate, and I'm on a fairly tight budget so the fancy $80 HRMs are a no go.

3 minutes. The perks of living on campus. Whenever I have trouble motivating myself to go exercise, I remind myself that this is the only time in my life that I'll be this close to a gym with no membership required.
