  • Actually, I use this one: Stair-treadmill ergometer, general. I don't know if that's correct, but it has treadmill in the title! You can adjust the time and calories to fit your workout, but it usually is pretty close to the machine's tally.
  • I've tried a bunch, mapmyrun, runkeeper and runtastic, I think I had the best luck with the last one. The problem with all of them is that the GPS signal varies, and they were "pretty" accurate, but not 100%. I ended up getting a Nike Sportsband and once I got it calibrated, I absolutely love it. You can get just the…
  • You *are* fast enough! As others have said, there will be runners of all shapes, sizes and abilities. There will no doubt be pure walkers! I ran my first 5k last Sunday, and was aiming for 33 minutes because that's what I had been doing in my practice runs. I surprised myself by comin in at 28:25. The fastest runner came…
  • I was in a power pop/new wave band in a previous lifetime. I was the primary songwriter, played rhythm guitar, various percussion implements, and was also the lead singer. Still plunk the acoustic, look longingly at the 12 string Rick (it needs a new bridge and I haven't had time or impetus!) and actually sang with my old…
  • I went from a Nike lifetime believer to an Asics Gel convert. I love these shoes!!!! I will always look at them first from now on. I didn't buy "top of the line" either. Try on a bunch of different kinds. Running store advice as mentioned is always beneficial, as they can spot your walking/running style (pronate,…

  • Sometimes I focus on milestones....that next telephone pole...that crack in the road....the next corner. And then once you get there, you just set another short milestone. I find that when I have "hit the wall", if I can just go another couple of minutes, I'm wondering why I was so tired a while back!
  • Graham: You didn't specify what kind of beer you usually like to drink, but as others have pointed out, Guinness is fairly light on calories compared to most. I tend to go for the Imperial Stouts (of course I would!) which are about double the normal caloric amount. If you're serious about fitness and serious about beer,…

  • Hi Mary and welcome! MFP has a great community, and the support is great - I sent you a friend request to save you from having to wade through all the "adds"! :) That marathon goal sounds amazing. I'm signed up for my first 5k in two weeks and working my way up to that. I can't imagine running an extra four plus hours...…
  • I had some yesterday! I'm in an office, so I put two packages in a paper coffee cup, add hot water (tea water), cover and seep for a couple of minutes and it's good to go! Quick, filling, low fat/calorie, cheap lunch!
  • By the way, congrats on your progress so far! Very impressive totals!
  • OK, a quick peruse of your past week looks like you run under most days, you had one spike day, and when you exercise, you don't eat any extra calories. More water, more eating! :) I ran into a similar circumstance where I stepped up my workouts and my weight loss stopped. Upping my calories and trying to make sure I ate…
  • I agree with everyone on here, it IS totally confusing to try to figure out what works and how to adjust your calories. I had initially lost a good bit, but then stalled for a long time. I was confused because the stall seemed to coincide with upping my workouts and intensity! I read a chart on here a couple of weeks ago…
  • Laphroaig 18! Or, second the Ardbeg 10. But they are intense, smokey and peaty!
  • Another great (if long!) read: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/501511-great-read-on-plateau-ing
  • Great post. Thanks for sharing!
  • Happy to see so many craft beer people on here! I'm fitnesspal friends with a couple of them, and even have a few beer trades in the works! :drinker: I agree, everything in moderation, and if you know you're going to want to partake, plan it in your day. I have been inspired by a few of my MFP friends and their workout…
  • My dog gets walks just about every day, rain, sun, snow, hot, cold, in-between! She doesn't care what the weather is, and I love her for it! AND I absolutely log the walks. They are usually a minimum of 20 minutes. Less than five I probably wouldn't bother.
  • I have been on here for about ten months, but always resisted the social aspect as I didn't want myfacebook pal. However, a couple of people added me after I posted a few things, and boom! I suddenly saw the power of support and motivation! There is also a TON of good information being shared. I'm on pretty much every day…
  • I was on here for almost a year before I had a single friend. I found a lot of information reading postings though, and found myself responding to people who seemed to have run into a couple of the same questions and problems as me. I have FB, but haven't been on in over a month. Meanwhile, the support I give and get and…
  • Leffe Brune!
  • Founders Canadian Breakfast Stout. Mmmmmm, now I'm thirsty! :)
  • Awesome job, and congrats on ... journey? Looks like an arrival! :) I've been running and lost some weight, but also feel like I've been plateauing. Care to share some of your regimen? Which machines, and what ab program? And your attitude is right on, we all have good days and bad days - that's called life! - it's staying…
  • Request sent! Good luck, and happy to help and have someone help too!
  • I guess I'm lucky, I saw a lot of bands on this list...Nirvana, Smiths, The Clash, XTC, The Who (with Moon and Entwistle!) - would love to see them ALL again! I've seen two of The Beatles (George and Paul) but not my favorite one. :ohwell:
  • Welcome! I've been on here for almost a year, but have stalled out recently! I also recently discovered the power of support and the MFP community, so would be happy to be added to your list!
  • A lot of folks are posting as thought beer is a solution or problem, rather than a culinary indulgence. Craft brewers are making beer that pushes boundaries more and more these days, and ingredients that cater to particular palates. Myself, I tend to go for imperial stouts and other "heavier" brews, which pretty much…
  • Sent you a request. I've been on here since last May, but never branched into the friend zone, I was leery this would turn into a facebookfitnesspal. I only recently saw the benefits to having "friends" to keep you motivated and to help motivate! Sent and accepted my first friend requests this month! I had some initial…
  • Interesting...a friend of mine has been espousing this book and running style for a while now. I've been building up to my first 5k, but recently got both a stiff back and sore knees, and am wondering if running on pavement has played a part in these. I didn't see anything specific about running causing these symptoms but…
  • $3.73 in RI, but I used my Stop And Shop card (not a plug, I don't work for them!) and got .80 off per gallon last night on an 18 gallon fill-up. It was nice to see the price drop below $3 per gallon - felt like a (small) victory!
