Latest update with my 8th graders: They didn't go to the library, but I was pleasently suprised at how well they worked on my alternate assignment. Maybe my calling in the AP after a pencil sharpener was thrown across the room at me did something. I am going to try a different book with them, hopefully they will find it a…

OK, after carefull consideration and trying a lot of different things, including the raffle, I have determined that my 8th graders are a bunch of horses' patoots. They have not turned in a single assignment in two weeks, and now things are disappearing from my desk. I'm thinking about "borrowing" things from them. I was…

Wow, that sounds like a great way to start off the week! Hope it gets better really quick for you.:flowerforyou:

New friends are always welcome. How's school going for everyone so far? I still think I like the my new admin so far.

Congrats on the good parent turn out. My school's open house was Wednesday night and I may have had 5 parents out of my 65 students show up. Guess that kinda figures into the stereotype for the low level readers though. During a brief bout of insanity, I agreed to take on the school's yearbook. Should be fun, but I know it…

Luckily for me, it's not in my curriculum, so I don't have to worry about it. Thanks for the advice for the prize box, the 6th grader loved the pens, pencils and stuff. I won't see my 8th graders on a Friday until next week, so I'm looking for some cheap stuff for them as you suggested. I did get some computer free time…

I use mainly free computer time, homework passes, and Oriental trading is my best friend for pens, pencils, notepads. I also love the Target dollar racks- Hanna Montana stickers, M&M pens all kinds of stuff like that. Unfortunately the ones I'm really trying to reach, I'm beginning to think, are unreachable. 15 - 16 years…

That is very similar to what we used at the DJJ site I worked at. Unfortunately it is much harder to implement in a "regular" school. Guess I'll try sticking to my raffle.

I have a 8th grade intensive reading class, if you take the top 10 behavior problems in the entire class, you have half of my roster. They refuse to do anything and talk so much that I can hardly get through my lesson, much less let them go through the rotational model I am required to do. Do you have any suggestions on…

What kind of site are you? That sounds a lot like a program I worked at which was funded by the Dept. of Juvenile Justice. It is really hard to reach students when they are with you a short time like that.

Started the new year with a completely new Admin at my school (last year was so bad, they booted the whole lot of them out  ) The whole campus feels like a totally different place and I love my sixth graders so far. They are well behaved overall and so cute  We have a LOT of brand new teachers this year because…

Its been crazy so far and we haven't even been back a week yet. We get students tomorrow and they are still changing teachers to new subject areas today. I was pulled out of Language Arts and placed in reading for 6th and 8th grade this year. Summer was good and restful, how about everyone else?
-
Another Southern Belle!!! I'm originally from Mississippi!! Doubly welcome.
-
Welcome aboard, please don't be a stranger during the summer. I teach Middle School Language Arts in South Florida, where do you teach?
-
I have to agree that she needs to be informed about what is ok and not ok. I'm not sure I would have handled this as calmly as you did, so kudos to you for not going off on her.

I don't know about anywhere else, but here, the teachers have to let admin know that they want to go somewhere else, and then just let them know as soon as they have a new position. This period basically goes from the beginning of May to the end of June. I agree that the ethical thing to do is to let admin know as soon as…

I sympathize. We climbed to Chimney Tops last year (Smoky Mtns) 15oo ft vertical. It felt great, and I could eat anything I want to that night! The view is also wonderful from up there. . . I wish I were going back to the mountains again this summer. Keep it up and great job!!!!
-
could it be gains in muscle mass?
-
Good Job!!!! Keep it up:wink: I AM DONE!!!!!!! No more kids or anything until August. Got a good workout the past two days boxing everything up and loading it into the cabinets for the summer though.

quiet moments during class???? You mean people have those????

It's realistically closer to maybe 100 by the time I figure in the snot wads who don't do any work. I had my students create a portfolio this last term related to a superhero that they created. I got some of the best work I've had all year from them. It was AWESOME!!!!

Do you teach elementary or secondary? We use Gradequick, and it calculates everything automatically once it's in the system. I have a hard time keeping my grades up to date, 120 students is hard to keep up with sometimes; especially when I have a lot of writing assignments to grade.
-
Three full days for me! I'm trying to get grades done tonight, not helping those late night cravings though. Maybe I can do better during the summer. Started P90 X tonight, kicked my butt big time!!

COOL!!! Photography is another hobby of ours. We'll look into it. THanks for the info.
-
Thank you, I'll look into those. Stringray city was listed as a shore excursion, don't remember seeing anything about Hell though. We all snorkle quite a bit (we do live in South Florida) so that was a given. There are 10 us of going together in the extended family and the kids range from 17 to 7. Should make things VERY…

What is the worst possible thing that could happen to you? How could you cope with that? What does your heart tell you is best for you and your child? Think about your answers, and let that help you decide.
-
Is there a "must do" activity that you would recommend?

My school is having a mass exodus after the way this year went. I'll be back and I'm hoping to be the department head next year. 7 days and counting!!!!! We're booking a cruise to Grand Cayman and I'm trying to get into my red dress for the formal night.
-
Good Luck!!!!!

Yeah, tell me about it. I would just love about five minutes with him and a 2x4 in my hand.
