You can stop doing cardio all together and lose weight just fine as long as you are eating at a deficit.
-
What I don't understand is why you come here asking this question and then act like you know the answer when people tell you that you are not eating in a deficit... Even with a medical condition, that you probably don't have anyway, anyone would be losing weight eating -3000 calories or so a day.
-
Just felt the need to highlight the YOU part...^^^
-
As the others have said you can maintain, and even gain strength while in a deficit, and you absolutely should try to maintain muscle in a deficit. You can get stronger without your muscles actually getting bigger, to a point. It seems like maybe you are thinking your muscles have to grow to get stronger.
-
That would all depend on you current calorie requirements. If it puts you in a deficit yes, you will lose weight, but if it puts you in a surplus you are going to gain weight.
-
LOL! I didn't mean that toward you... I didn't go back in the quotes far enough I guess. Sorry. ;)
-
I'm sorry but I don't follow your logic either... So what you are saying is the absolute only reason her "male" "superiors" invite her is to get in her pants? Wow... Either I'm just not following or you have some very serious, preconceived, presumptions about all males in general.

Like Niner said, you just don't want it bad enough yet. I know that sounds a little harsh, but no one can tell you how to want to work out. You have to figure out what is more important to you. At some point hopefully exercise is more important than a couple more minutes of sleep. Of course we all get in a slump from time…
-
Lol! Hopefully NOT a Registered Dietician if they are that clueless.
-
Because being asleep at work is kind of frowned upon...
-
Ummm...
-
No, it's not a myth. It's just absolutely not true. So what she is telling you is that even if your maintenance point was say 2000 calories, and you are eating 1400 calories to lose weight, if you happen to eat 1600 calories, even though it is still below maintenance you will gain weight? See how ridiculous that sounds?
-
Actually the opposite will happen. If you gain weight your BMI will increase. This is exactly the reason the BMI scale is so flawed. People who carry a lower body fat % and higher muscle mass can actually have a higher BMI reading showing that they are obese. A lot of insurance companies use BMI alone and it causes higher…

Like the others have said sweating just means your hot. I live in Florida and sweat just walking out the door 9 months out of the year. Doesn't mean I'm burning more calories just means I'm hotter than someone that lives in Alaska at that particular moment. Having said that if dancing is something you enjoy, go for it!

Just wondering how loading up on all the sodium from a Chinese buffet is going to benefit someone who is retaining water already? I agree the OP needs to eat more than she is eating but eating a lot of food once a month at a buffet isn't going to solve anything for her.
-
Just wanted to add... ...nope, nothing else to add, everyone else already covered it.

Most of that will depend on the entry you use on the database. Some things are entered as raw some cooked so it will depend on which one you choose when logging. On the other hand the difference in calories from cooked to raw is going to be so minimal that it really doesn't matter either way. As long as you are weighing…

Because one requires an energy deficit and the other requires an energy surplus. Muscle can't be built out of nothing, so if you are in a deficit to lose fat there is nothing to build muscle out of. Having said that, you should still lift heavy in a deficit to maintain the muscle you have. If you are new to lifting you…

Like everyone else has said, it is going to be an individual thing. Having said that, you can absolutely lose fat without losing any muscle if you have everything set up correctly. On the other hand it is almost impossible to gain muscle without gaining some fat, but you can minimize fat gains while increasing muscle…
-
The only thing absolutely required for fat loss is a calorie deficit. It's not a theory. You could sit on your butt all day every day and eat at a deficit and still lose weight. No exercise required.
-
"Retaining water", yes. "Holding on to what it can", absolutely not. The body doesn't work that way.
-
^^^good advice^^^ Use the scale as a tool not as your main focus for progress.
-
Your main focus should still be on lifting to preserve lean muscle tissue. Fat loss can be achieved with by diet alone with no cardio whatsoever. Sure you can do cardio to help achieve your deficit, but don't let cardio hamper your lifting.
-
There's a lot of different reasons you could be gaining, but the simple fact is if you are gaining weight you are eating more calories than your body needs.

I have a Garmin Vivosmart with a chest strap HR monitor. Any tracker you use is going to be pretty close but it is still not going to be exact. The wrist based HR monitors, in my opinion, are not very accurate at tracking exercise calories but are okay for normal day to day activities. A chest strap monitor is going to be…

I'm 5'9" and 148lbs...

I'm curious. What exactly are you supposed to work harder at to gain height?
