I'm 5' 4" and have taken 2 1/2 years of various diet plans to achieve the weight loss on my ticker. I have had a year of maintaining at a higher weight than I would like to be and am now working on losing the last half a stone. I hope to get there before the 3 years is up. Not a speedy weight loss but hopefully it will…

I've been intolerant to eggs since I was a child... it's very common. I can eat them in baked items as long as there is only say a couple of eggs in an entire cake but I can't eat Victoria sponge. If I eat egg (even mayonnaise) I get a blinding headache and throw up. It's a pain as eggs are so easy and convenient and I…

New on here - I'm a shamanic Druid from Kent (UK). Involved in a monthly drum circle and a study group and also belong to a pagan based Morris side as a musician and story teller.

I'm not a christian but I think I will probably give up bungee jumping and extreme ironing.

I've read the word 'sweets' and now I want some......be gone, foul temptation!

Friday... love it love it love it. Especially 4pm when I walk out of the office to catch the train home. It's all I can do not to skip across London Bridge singing something uplifting from The Sound of Music. However I would rather not be sectioned so early in the weekend so I just grin a bit.

Not sure if you should be indulging..... how many calories does such an activity burn... and is it really suitable for a low carb regime?

Been there - early menopause in my mid thirties and I put on 3 stone which I found impossible to lose until everything had settled down 15 years later. That's not very encouraging is it? But I have now lost almost all that weight over the last 3 years. Low carb is the only way that I could do it. Nothing else seemed to…

I have to admit..... I was a Morris dancer( female) for 20 years, I'm now a Morris musician due to knackered knees. It's very good exercise if you don't succumb to the lure of the real ale!

Perhaps we should start some extreme UK topics for discussion...... cricket, Morris dancing, changing the guard at Buckingham palace, the tradition of afternoon tea ( low cal version), Sunday roasts, pubs, Eisteddfords, Highland Games????

There's a big difference between doing Total which your neighbour did and Lite which I am doing. I'm finding the counselling very helpful indeed and I intend to do the maintenance programme which supports you back into eating 'proper' food. It sounds as though your neighbour just went back to eating exactly the same as he…

We are not as obsessive as the US contingent and there aren't as many of us? I read a lot of the forum but I don't post all that much. Some of the threads are a bit daft and you do wonder whether some people know anything at all about food and nutition.

The old weight watchers plan worked for me and I lost 2 1/2 stone. But then they changed it to the new plan which I followed to the letter and put on weight. WW new plan gives you (at the lowest level) about 1200 calories per day PLUS unlimited fruit and vegetables PLUS a weekly allowance PLUS exercise points. If you can…

Hi I'm from Kent too. Been losing weight since August 2009 with various plans etc and have gone from 13st down to my current weight of 10st 5. Got about a stone to go and am on Lighter life lite plus here. This site is so helpful.
-
Has low carb helped me? Yes. I weighed 13 stone in August 2009 and I now weigh 10stone 5Lbs. It's been a long journey with a few ups and downs and more than a few plateaus but low carb is the only way that has been successful and stopped me bingeing uncontrollably. I realise now that the overeating was truly out of my…

Try a low carb diet - it will suppress appetite and stop you craving sugar, bread etc. I have the same problem and if I eating anything that a shouldn't it sets up an uncontrollable urge to eat. Don't beat yourself up about lack of willpower, it's more likely to be an insulin resistance. Low carb for the rest of your life…

The older you get the more this seems to be true. I used to lose at a steady rate but now I'm 53 it can be all over the place. But the rate is downwards over the long term. Weighing in the evening is hopeless, I can put on up to 5 pounds between the morning and evening depending on what I have eaten or drunk.
-
Interested on the effect on insulin reaction - I can't help but think I have some problem with insulin resistance as I really have to cut carbs to lose any weight so this could be very helpful for people like me who struggle to exercise regularly due to work commitments, commuting 3 hours a day, back problems and terminal…

Have been in the same position for a while, lost 2 and a 1/2 stone and then put on about 10 lbs over a year, it's now coming off again with a low carb, low fat regime. I've lost 10lbs in 5 weeks so I am now beginning to drop below the lowest I have been in probably the last 15 years. It's not easy though and I have given…

It's because it's below freezing outside. Buy some thermal vests.

I am 53, totally post menopausal with a sedentary job and am eating between 800 and 1000 a day following the lighter life lite programme. Don't tell me that this is too little, I do not lose weight easily on anything more and I have only about half a stone to lose before I am in the healthy weight range having lost 2 and…

Speaking as an older (english) woman who has no problem with the changing room nudity thing I think you all should know that once you have suffered the supreme indignity of giving birth in an NHS hospital you will never have any hangups again about who sees your naked body.

This is a tricky one... I'm allergic to egg so would be interested to know if anyone has some suggestions. It's a pain because what could be easier than an omelette with lots of veg in and a salad.
-
I'm a WW refugee, the new plan is ridiculous and if I stick to it religiously I gain weight. The reason? If you eat just the points given you will be on 1000 to 1200 calories a day. When you add in fruit and vegetables, your weekly points and exercise points you are probably over 1800 a day. I don't lose at that level - I…

A 12 year old Peugot 306. It's now starting look so retro that it's cool!

Atkins in it's first stage is a bit severe, but cutting carbs down to say 40 g a day does not mean an unhealthy diet and nothing but meat. The South Beach diet is a better alternative. I would say that you should try the low carb approach only if 1200 calories with whole grains, lots of fruit and veg etc does not work.…

Not everyone is the same and 1300 may be too much. Try 1200 as another poster advised and see if it works.

Why is your goal so low? That's not a healthy weight for a grown woman. You are fine at the weight that you are now. I'm 5' 3 and a half and the lowest I have ever been in my adult life was 125 and I was pretty skinny. (I was doing a house up at the time and not eating enough)
