I have always been interested in nutrition and I read a lot of books on different diets or self help books. My latest reads are "Suicide by Sugar" and "Eat to Live". As you read the way the body handles foods and how the foods we choose to eat affect our bodies and weight loss, it definitely makes you think twice about…

Very clever! I enjoyed reading it but knew it wasn't what you wanted me to think it was. You have a way with words. Thanks for sharing.

It's not healthy to elliminate a food group. My suggestion would be to eliminate bad carbs found in white bread, white rice, pasta and processed food and sweets. Stick with fresh fruits and veg. whole grains like brown rice and wheat berries, lean protein, whole wheat pastas. What jumped started my weight loss after a…

Don't know if this helps but here are my must haves: Fat free plain Greek yogurt, blueberries/strawberries, any fresh fruits and vegetables, brown rice, wheat berries, mixed greens, tzatziki, oatmeal, chicken, turkey, salmon, tuna fish, 60 calorie fudgesicles, skinny cow ice cream sandwhiches, 100% whole wheat La Tortilla…

I would have to say that it is probably an estimate since my goals are to lose 2 lbs a week so MFP set me at a calorie goal of 1240 per day but this has led to an average loss of 1 lb. per week. Every body is different and you really can't go by MFP numbers but I would be curious to see how your experiment turns out.

I started Weight Watchers in April 2010 and lost 20 lbs but it took me a year. I started MFP in May 2011 and have lost 10 lbs in 10 weeks. I still go to weight Watchers for support aqnd cammeraderie but I don't count points. 1250 calories per day has given me a steady weight loss which I'm happy with. I also changed my…

Sugar from fruits and veggies are not bad for you. It's the sugars from processed foods and drinks that are bad but MFP doesn't differentiate them unfortunately. Maybe I will suggest this to them. I don't eat processed so I don't monitor sugar at all.

I like your ticker. Made me laugh. :)

I'm striving for the weight I was when we got married in 1989.

I have been doing Weight Watchers and was at a plateau after losing 20 lbs in one year which I know is very slow. I joined MFP in May and since then have lost an additional 11 lbs. in only 12 weeks. I am thrilled. I count calories now not points but what has really helped is that I changed my eating plan. I now DO NOT eat…

I have read that anti-depressants can cause weight gain so if your trying to lose that's a step in the right direction.

I believe the purpose of this site is for tracking food and exercise whether you want to gain weight or lose it. I have found this site to be extremely helpful in keeping track of calories consumed and burned through diet and exercise. I use it for weight loss but if you already have obsessive issues with food MFP might…

I'm a size 14 in women and 190 lbs. height 5'6". Big boned and muscular legs.

Thanks for the info on how to adjust protein levels on MFP. I agree, they are way too low.
-
Don't worry about it. MFP has protein levels way too low and I can't figure out how to change it. I don't know why they are so low. Lots of good "diet" foods like plain Greek yogurt are high in protein and should be eaten. Plus proteins keep you satisfied longer and don't make you crave more food 2 hours later.

Hi, I can relate. I am 51 and my metabolism has gotten more sluggish as I've gotten older even though my thyroid is normal. My calorie intake is about 1250 per day and sometimes more on days I exercise. Since joining MFP I have broken a plateau by not eating anything made with flour (except once per week I have a 70…

Any recipe you have for white rice would also work with brown rice. I like to cook it then add parsley and fresh crushed garlic with a little extra virgin olive oil. So good!
-
I'd say losing 3 lbs in three weeks is right on. Keep doing whatyou're doing cause it's working.
-
YES! I certainly believe it's that bad and wouldn't dare eat anything that contained this poisonous chemical. Sugar is natural and in moderation will not kill you. Enough said.

My NSV is that since starting MFP two months ago, I haven't had a slice of bread. or anything made with flour. I think I have finally found the secret to weight loss FOR ME! Cravings gone too. It's an awesome feeling and I don't even feel deprived at all.

Sweet heart, calm yourself and stop and think for a minute. Don't come down on your friend. The weight loss journey is all about you as an individual. It can be done on your own. If your friend is too busy with other things right now let her be. We all have our own priorities and we should do what works best for ourselves.…

No offense but I don't think MFP is a forum for rediculous drama in your life. What's this got to do with MFP. My opinion about friends is that when they need something from you all is fine - when they don't need you for anything they don't want to know you. That has been my experience. Friendship is based on using people,…

Sorry, but I don't use the shakes. I was in GNC one day and the salesperson was pitching it too me but when I asked him if it had artificial sweetener and he said they all do I said no thanks. I don't eat anything with artificial sweetener. I just don't trust that stuff to not do some kind of harm somewhere along the way.

I've got a bag slowly being filled. I donate lots of stuff including clothes to the V. V. A. You call them and they come right to the front door and pick up goods on my porch.

Great feedback!

Pick a bean any bean! Half a cup of beans can average 7 grams of fiber. I use the ones in the can so you just have to rinse under cold water and throw in a salad or just eat as is! P.S. I don't mean green beans of course. :blushing:

You can estimate the points by knowing how many ounces the chicken was. 1 oz. of chicken is one point and that is when there is nothing on it. I would think that the two pieces probably were in that range. I doubt you would get 18 oz. of chicken on a plate! Anyway I would count it as 9 points. Hope this helps.

Thank you for the info. Now I know I won't be buying it since I don't want to pay a monthly service fee. I wasn't aware of that. I'll go with the HRM instead.

The best way I know to lose (works for me anyway) is to cut bad carbs which come from PROCESSED food. Good carbs come from fresh fruit & veggies, whole grains. Watch sugar intake too. Basically, I don't eat anyrhing made with flour. I was at a plateau for the longest time until I tried this. Since joining MFP I have lost…

That's how I feel when playing golf. Walking the course, beautiful scenery, fresh air, thinking of nothing except the game. It's like a mini vacation every week. It's different for everyone but it's a great feeling once you find it. Keep on cycling buddy!
