Well I know where I'm going today.

No.

Nice hoard. I'm kicking myself for not stocking up on Sugar Cookie D:

If you think it's a problem, don't date someone who does it. If you think it's ok but your S/O doesn't, find someone else.

I just want to address the selfishness. I see how it appears selfish, and it would mean more if the change came from genuine compassion for his fellow man, but I want to give him the benefit of the doubt on this issue. Sometimes is just takes personal experience to change a person's deep-seated beliefs and this reaction…

I guess I should have stayed more on topic then, because my point was advocating single-payer. We'll see what really happens. ETA: I concede that I haven't read enough to know the costs of the bill in it's current form.

Since you just answered me with another question, I'll take that as "they can die, for all I care." And I don't think society is to blame, I just think that since we're in a position to make sure that nobody has to make that decision, we should, especially with the drag healthcare is on the economy. Also, it'd be nice if…

Oh, my mistake. I wasn't aware of the intragovernmental loan.

My thoughts exactly

Here are the countries with the 15 highest purchasing power parity per capita healthcare costs. It's basically how much the same services cost in each country. Lowering the cost of services would lower the taxes/premiums paid by each individual.…

1. It wasn't an assumption, it was based on things he said. Maybe he could prove he is very compassionate in his everyday life, but he doesn't care what some guy on the internet with a cat avatar thinks, so moving on... 2. Your tax argument doesn't hold up. The social security and medicare taxes that come from your…

I appreciate your honesty. I can't win you over on compassionate grounds, so I'll try to look for the info that says we'd be better off financially as individuals if we had a single-payer system instead of the mish-mash we have now.

We can't really know for sure or not if he would have or not, unless he gets out and actually goes through with it. Obviously his searches and communication were specific enough for the jury to think he was actively conspiring. What's missing from the article is if he had any kidnapping tools. If not, then I don't know how…

Unless you make over $400,000 (you might, I don't know), federal taxes haven't gone up on anyone since Clinton was in office (someone correct me if I'm wrong). Excluding the two-year payroll tax cut that just expired, which Obama gave us. The healthcare law is intended to save money. Also, I don't think it's unreasonable…

Ok, point taken. But what should they then do if they do get sick? Is it conscionable, as the richest country on the planet, to let our citizens die or go bankrupt? I'm asking this because by saying it's not your problem, it sounds like you think you should be required to pay $0 for anyone else, including emergency care,…

I wouldn't say it degenerated to human rights. I think that it's important to the discussion as a whole to determine where the perspectives of the people involved originate. As for cable, internet, cigarettes, etc., they're not really on the same level. Choosing to forgo any of those things generally doesn't result in…

Does this also then extend to food, water, and shelter?

I think I just solved the kid part of the problem. You don't need a separate section. The airline can just supply rags and chloroform for parents to use on their babies.

Who is saying that it doesn't look like it's working? The exchanges won't even be fully operational until next January.

This is just a poll question for everyone here. Do you think healthcare should be considered a human right? I do.

Yup

I'm actually glad you didn't mean that. This is the second time you've made an assumption about me. Please stop doing that. Edited to add: I agree with you that people need to be educated about what's available to them and that laws need to be changed in a way that can improve the system and allow for negotiation.

Please correct me if I'm wrong. I interpreted this as "I with that both government healthcare and health insurance didn't exist, that way only people with money can get treated and my costs would go down."
-
That's a very small portion of the population. The majority of people receiving government assistance actually work or are trying to work, excluding retirees. And labeling people as good or bad shows how little compassion you have. I know it's not pleasant to think about, but you can work your *kitten* off in America and…

Yes, we do have to depend on the government or private companies. Otherwise only the rich could afford healthcare. Medical bills are the largest cause of bankruptcy in the US. It would be less expensive for everyone if we just had a single-payer system.

It's just water weight and the weight of more food/waste inside you. You didn't gain 4 pounds of fat, if that's what you're concerned about. Weigh yourself again in a couple weeks and see where you are. Edit: I just noticed this thread is almost a year old.
