I always eat anywhere from 1200-1400 calories a day. Normally no more than 1400. There is no need to eat more than 1400 calories a day, especially if your losing weight or trying too. I work for a Doctor who recommends MFP to all his patients. He always say's that regardless of your activity level to put sedentary. It gives you a lower calorie amount to work with. Just a little extra help with weight loss.

I have a heartrate/calorie watch. It has a band that you wear right under chest so it's pretty accurate. I wear it while doing cardio and my calories on the watch as well as MFP match up perfectly.
