i use a different twist on clothing. i don't necessarily buy new. i simply try on items of my old clothing that i want to get back to being able to wear. i do so knowing i may be a ways from fitting into whatever it is. so i might try the same pair of blue jeans on several times. each time, i make a mental note as to…

Best of luck to you. i have had two back surgeries. i had ruptures at two levels. one re-ruptured necessitating the second surgery. you hit the nail on the head. Walking will be your best friend. i wore out a pair of shoes. was dieting back then too. i cut my intake down some and drank lots of water. the medications can…

Happy birthday KT. my birthday happens to fall this week too. i am actually going to be taking a detour from the road to Svelte myself. going to the desert to hike and eat Mexican food (with a few cervezas thrown in the mix, i am sure). here's the deal. if this is simply a diet where you lose some weight for a particular…

Cheese, if you do please. Man do i love cheese. i read a book a long time ago in which the author (some guy named Dave) said that we all have trigger foods---foods that we not only can't stop eating but moreover, once we start eating them, they lead us to eat more of other foods. if there is such a thing as a trigger food,…

Forget the age worry. as you know, losing weight at any age is tough. but if you work at it, there is no reason why you will not succeed. by the way, i refuse to think we are age impaired. my driver's license my say i'm 53 but i can tell you that i am a lot younger today than i was 64 pounds ago.

This is the thread for me and my Paddy O'Malley. He is here with me at work. he come with me everyday. 3 years old, 27 pounds of pure love. doesn't bark unless we are playing tug-of-anything. He rocks. he loves to hike. been up to 13,000 feet with us. an 8 mile hike is a piece of cake for him as long as there is some…

Check out the recent wave of scientific studies that call into question the effectiveness of vitamins. They have caused me to rethink even taking them anymore. NPR did a piece on the studies earlier this week.

I really appreciate the feed back. i am inclined to think that Fpacudan is correct. i have utilized most of the other suggestions given in this thread for many years. more weight, less reps; incline benches; slow releases. i have mixed up my routine both back when i used a trainer and now on my own. i use machines some but…

my weight goal was based on a weight that looked and felt right on me several years ago. it was during another one of these journeys. it was on my way down to a BMI friendly weight. once i got down to that far, both my wife and i felt i did not appear to be healthy at the BMI approved weight. there is a picture of me on…

Puggleperson: I'm a 53 year old male. I've lost 56 lbs in the last 4 months. I probably eat less than most MFP posters. I will not debate the merits of eating more than that with the scientific community or those numerous MFP'ers that stridently believe calorie intake needs to be more than that. i am simply telling you…

Relatedly, i can't wait to get my license replaced because i hate my photo. i will pay to do it ahead of schedule once i closer to "my" weight. the current license photo makes me look like an English Bulldog unstead of a Boston Terrier.
