  • ditto on bodyrock.tv. their workouts are KILLER - but have modifications you can do if you're just starting out. a lot of the more recent workouts use equipment (that you can do without - they show you variations) but if you go back to the beginning, zuz did all her exercises with bodyweight. good luck! :)
  • Agree! Look at it in a holistic fashion, and definitely eat more. In fact, I've tried training for a couple long races myself..and they say that on runs longer than about 45 minutes you should refuel during your run with a gel or something. But yes....runners EAT! nom nom nom....
  • Yes! Actually been having trouble syncing my Garmin with it even. So sad :(
  • bump! thanks steve for all the good info (and sidesteal for pointing me in this direction)!
  • wow...huge bump! thanks for the post! :)
  • I have had Mirena for 2.5 years and have not noticed any trouble with weight gain. As for ladies asking if it hurts...IT HURT LIKE THE ****ENS TO GET IT IN! Of course, I went to my GP instead of an OBGYN AND I haven't had kids yet. It took the dr about 45 minutes to get it....but since then, I have had NO problems…
  • bump - thanks! very funny :)
  • No specific brands or anything that are better than others? I like to buy quality equipment, not cheap stuff....as tempting as the cheap stuff is...haha.
  • Thanks, I will take a look. I've been operating at a deficit (about 300 cals/day) and exercising and haven't seen much change. So I'm trying the other route (bulking up) instead :) I'm still planning to do cardio but I want to focus more on lifting. Anyway thanks, and you can probably expect a PM from me at some point :) I…
  • I'm no expert, but as someone who took oral birth control for years (ortho cyclen and ortho tricyclen) and a few different antidepressants (currently on 40 mg of Prozac) I can tell you that it can definitely mess with your weight. Unfortunately I can't tell you the solution. You could try to mix up your workouts (read…

  • Lauren, I just had a coworker who had an abdominoplasty, and she is also getting a breast reduction/lift. I believe her insurance covered a good portion of it. She was also going to get her legs done - insurance wouldn't cover that, and I believe it was about $3000 for both. I live in MI. CONGRATULATIONS on your fantastic…
  • 1. I have a couple of ON sports bras...they are NOT worth the money. I am a little more well-endowed but I found that the ON bras basically do the same thing as a shelf bra for me - nothing. I will only wear those if I am doing yoga or some other low-impact exercise...and even then I wear a shirt with a shelf bra also. 2.…

  • sounds like you need to mix it up with some other fitness routines! dvds can be good, you could also start lifting weights. personally i am in love with bodyrock.tv...short HIIT workouts that you can do at home.
  • you could also check out bodybuilding.com. they have tons of videos and stuff. love bodyrock too! not just for ladies!
  • protein and fiber :)
  • That's true. Dang. I kind of wanted my Coke. :grumble:
  • You could also try adding flax seed to some meals. I'll add a TBSP to my protein shake or my oatmeal...it's a bulking agent, got lots of fiber, and it will help keep you full. As far as sweets go, try eating more fruits and stuff...for me, I love a perfectly ripe banana. Apples are a great choice too...and again with the…

  • I read that the low-intensity cardio "myth," if you want to call it that, comes because during those sessions you'll burn a higher percentage of fat calories vs. other calories. Of course, if you have a short, vigorous session, you'll burn more calories overall, and thus more fat calories. Thanks for the other info re:…
  • Wow...I had no idea. That's great to know! I guess I always picture runners as graceful, gazelle-types, as opposed to like a hedgehog.
  • 10 min/mile is a great pace for a half, I think! I'm 5'3" and about 140...definitely need to lose my belly...and i LOVE to run! I haven't been able to train for any half marathons yet...I'm super busy with work and school...but I like to do 1 or 2 5ks a year and in 2010 I did a 10k that was pretty fun. I agree...it seems…
  • bump - this looks awesome. thanks for sharing!
  • I think everyone has those days. And it's okay to indulge in those feelings sometimes (I had 2 glasses of wine myself last night). Just make sure that those moments and those feelings don't rule your life. You don't have to deprive yourself of everything - why not get a bit of dark chocolate and treat yourself to a little…
  • You could also try the bodyrock.tv workouts...that'll get you going!
  • I've started eating the Fiber One cereal bars. They're kind of expensive but they fill me up - and are around 140 calories. They make a 90 calorie bar but they're even more expensive. And I imagine the sugar content isn't that great. I also like to do oatmeal...if you can swing it, bring in a thing of plain oatmeal to work…
  • i love everything smartwool...but it's expensive! i have a beanie and glove liners that are pretty nice if it's not super cold...like in the high 30s - low 40s. i also have a mountain hard wear shirt that's pretty decent. i'm struggling with tights also..i have a pair but they don't fit right..they keep sagging. good luck…
  • you look beautiful! i agree with some others on here...try changing your mindset. fitness is more important than weight...i would also suggest some weight training. check out this link...which would you rather look like? http://fortiusfitness.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/skinny-fat.jpg
  • I can't even get my husband to count calories. He thinks that running 2 miles 3x a week will help him lose weight, while he sits around and eats Doritos by the bag. Once he asked me "how do we eat healthy?" and I said more veggies, lean meats, whole grains....and he said "Ew." He definitely doesn't support my exercise and…
  • Hey - great job! 25 lbs is amazing! And what's more than that is the pant size. Congrats! Just stay the course and you will continue to have success. I would also recommend taking measurements. Sometimes they can give a more accurate picture of your journey than weight.
  • try it with garlic and red peppers...yum!

  • oh my gosh...do NOT be so hard on yourself! i would love to do a half marathon - hopefully later this year :) you definitely don't need to compare yourself to other people...just finishing that race is a GREAT accomplishment! i just did my first 5k of the season...and i hit a PR...but i was 5/7 in my age group...but i…
