  • Also you should lift HEAVY! Lifting light is not really going to do anything for you.
  • OMG usmcmp, love the avatar! And as always, thanks for the post Steve.
  • My feeling was that higher reps help muscular endurance, so even though I can do 3x8 deadlifts at 105 (ok, I know it's not that much), I did drop the weight so I could complete 15 reps. And then today I did 12@105....so, I dunno.
  • What a great story and amazing difference! I wish stories like these were at the top of these message boards for the women who are scared of looking like a man. Do you have any specific strength goals? I know you said you are about to start cutting but I'm just curious. I just started with New Rules a couple weeks ago and…
  • Start lifting now. Buy New Rules of Lifting for Women. It will change the way you think about exercise, weights, and food. You won't get "bulky" from muscles unless you have a HUGE calorie surplus, do RIDICULOUS weight training, and take supplements. Please read this:…
  • Yes! Just started a couple weeks ago. Still finding how heavy I can go on the weights but so far I like it! It's a great read with all sorts of information about not just working out but diet too.
  • Eat more. Eat more veggies. Eat less fruit. Make sure you get enough protein. HEALTHY FATS ARE IMPORTANT. Butter, avocado, nuts, seeds. Limit carbs (ish). Lift weights.
  • How about 35% carbs, 30% protein, 35% fat? If you're doing 1200 calories... 420 calories carbs (105 g), 360 calories protein (90 g), 420 calories fat (46ish g). I don't know what your lean body mass is, but if you want to do it based on your total weight: 406 calories carbs (101.5 g), 444 calories protein (111 g), 349-350…
  • Yes. This. "Too much" protein is all relative. As others have said, MFP goals for protein are very low. I'm struggling to get 113 g of protein per day...trying to eat a LOT more meat. Also, if you tolerate dairy, cheese, cottage cheese, yogurt and the like have protein. Also (duh) milk. I find that without a supplement I…
  • Also I've heard "eat the rainbow" - not Skittles but veggies! Lots of different ones! I'm personally still having difficulty with that one, but...there ya have it :)
  • Ditto on this! The Smith machine is evil! Stay away from it....move to barbell (empty) squats, DB squats, or even bodyweight squats to get the proper form...Smith machine will not teach you proper form.
  • Eat more protein and fat. For real. Fat could make up as much as 50% of your diet...as long as it's good...avocados, seeds/nuts, etc. Even oils - butter, olive oil, etc... For carbs, instead of eating things like white rice and pasta and baked potatoes, sub in green leafy vegetables, squash, sweet potatoes, etc. The other…
  • I'm trying to find some good organic meat around here...not easy. I hate buying meat from Tyson, Smithfield, etc. (Just watched Food, Inc not too long ago.) Red meat is good for you! As long as it's not grain-fed. Trying organic/free range eggs, fresh veggies, etc. I'm trying out the primal/paleo lifestyle and really…
  • Congrats on defeating your ED! Gyms can be insanely expensive so I getcha there. Check out nerdfitness. I'm serious. They've got some great stuff on there..like this: http://nerdfitness.com/blog/2009/12/09/beginner-body-weight-workout-burn-fat-build-muscle/
  • Who is telling you that you need to lose 10 more pounds??? I am 5'3" and weigh more than you.
  • Second! Definitely better!
  • I agree you look great. Try not to worry about small fluctuations in weight...it happens. Especially around TOM! If you really want to get "toned," as your profile says, you should start eating more and lifting weights. Trust me, you won't bulk up. Here's a story for you to read...…
  • Lift weights.

  • maybe you should search some threads like you suggested for someone else to do. lots of information on there. you're definitely not eating enough.
  • Post stats...weight, height, and open your food diary. My gut feeling: probably. Eat more protein and fat. Also I've heard that genetic factors contribute more to high cholesterol than foods. So, I've been enjoying my egg monster in the morning.
  • Yes. Eat more. Do some searches about eating more. Lots of info out there.
  • I found that MFP's guided suggestions were far too low. It had me at 1200 as well. Just not sustainable. Do some searches for TDEE and BMR and that kind of thing, and you will learn a lot. Also if you think you are eating enough protein (or going over according to MFP), you're probably not. Shoot for 1g per lb of…

  • in a nutshell, yes.
  • Does creatine (in MM) cause bloating?
  • I would say only to a certain point. If you have never lifted a day in your life, then sure you can make what muscle you have stronger by lifting weights. However, building muscle = gaining weight, which means you need to be in a calorie surplus and not a deficit. Try reading up on some of Steve Troutman's stuff…
  • My heart rate consistently gets into the 160s, often into the 170s, and sometimes up to 180 when running. I am 30 and have been running for a while. No offense to your husband, but I think he is an idiot for thinking you are going to have a heart attack. You know your body better than he does. If it ever gets to the point…
  • how about a pony keg?
  • This. It's basically what I've been doing with my husband. :)
  • Hard to say without seeing your food diary. Maybe your body is reacting funny to something. I've cut out most grains in my diet and I had a hamburger last night and am so bloated this morning that I look preggo.
