I definitely agree! I've been using MFP for a quite a while now and notice that "shorting" the daily calorie allowance (even the earned from burned cals) doesn't work. When you filled out your initial questionnaire for MFP it asked what your "goal" weight loss was and figured your calories to hit that goal - so eating what…

Our YMCA has ways to "help" people who can't afford a membership - you could try that. Also, there are SO many ways to exercise at home for free - youtube has a TON of videos. I personally get circuits from www.BodyRock.tv - free and challenging. Keep the course - eye on the prize (healthier you not a # on a scale).

Welcome!! Begin looking for people that you may have common interests with or just like their attitudes and add you some friends! It is a wonderful source of encouragement.

Rest and recover! I had a guy in my fitness class today who had missed the last couple of weeks - I asked where he had been - he had a mountain biking accident and took 2 weeks off to recover. I am finding just take the time to recover and when you come back you'll be strong and HEALED!!

What I like to remember is that a 2 steps forward and 1 step back pace is still progress at the end of the day. Ultimately, I also keep in my mind that the option of eating irresponsibly and not taking care of myself leads to such a cruddy feeling and lazy/sedentary lifestyle - so sometimes I get discouraged and say,…

Gear up - the last 4 weeks are really a challenge - I had to really pump myself daily - but it's WORTH IT!! Great job so far!!

When I googled "Running Races Michigan" it took me to a website called "RunningMichigan.com" - there may be one in your state.

I forgot to mention that there are apps for smart phones and iPads as well.

I have a notebook that I keep track of my weights/reps etc - and I fill out the "Type" of move I'm going to do before I get to the gym - then all i have to do is write "1 x 10 - 45" or tick marks "III x 10 - 45". It really saves time for the next workout - it makes for a quick glance to refresh that I did 4 sets at 45 so…

Congratulations! Now HOLD THE COURSE!!! Maintain!!!

I typically try to start out "laid back" and there are quite a few times that 10-15 min into my workout I actually begin to feel better and can finish a lot stronger then how I started. There are also times that 10-15 min into my workout I just feel like CRAP and decide that tomorrow is another day.

I am a runner - have been competing in 5ks, 10ks, and various other races since 1999.

I have been lifting for quite some time now (to say over 20 yrs makes me feel old) - often times women are afraid of bulking up and therefore lift to light and do too many reps. Try taking your reps to 8-10 and lift enough weight that when you get to rep #8 you are SO thanful that 9 & 10 are it! You should notice some nice…

I just did that last night and made ice cream with a frozen banana, 2 TBSP of natural peanut butter, 1 scoop vanilla protein powder & 1/2 tsp of Vanilla extract. Delish!!

I think of the Shakeology the way that I do a meal replacement shake - but the biggest difference is all the vitamins/minerals and probiotics. I had had a struggle with regularity until adding shakeology (probably more than you needed or wanted to know). Great meal replacement.

That's SO funny - my grandson thinks like that - he's 4! He got a $50 bill from his great-grandma for his birthday but the 4 $1 bills that he got from his great-grandpa was BETTER because there were 4 of them!! :-)

50lbs is 50lbs - equal - volume/mass are different but 50lbs is 50lbs.

That is exactly my point - but I do laugh when I hear people who begin workout programs then comment on how they've "gained weight because muscle weighs more than fat". I am a firm believer in measuring your body in addition to monitoring your progress by a scale. I have a personal training client that is visibly smaller…

Love the attitude!! I am a Personal Trainer/Group Fitness Instructor at the gym and was JOKING yesterday with anothe instructor who asked me how my class went. My joke was, "No Fun - it made me sweat! Isn't there a pill I could take instead". If you'd like to be friends - I would love to motivate you in your journey!!

One thing is for sure and that is that all calories are not created equal - the calories in a hot fudge sundae will be high and I can have the same # of calories in lean protein/veggies/carb and get more food and stay satiatied longer. If I find that I am hungry a handful of raw almonds goes a long way - 3 oz of lean…

That's exactly what we were told back in 2004 when we were seeing a nurtritionist who was recommending that we cut out artificial sweeteners, sugar, and no fruit for 30 days to regulate our insulin levels. Then ater 30 days we could have fruit once every 3-5 days.
