  • Like everyone else has said it’s not going to happen. It took me forever to go from a half of one assisted to 10 semi-assisted (using a very loose pull up assist on my bar) doing P90x. Most likely your'e going to need help (others said to shed body weight, but at your weight and height that's going to happen very slowly),…
  • My Giant Liv (women's bike) was roughly $800 bucks; however that didn't include a new saddle or pedals which I had to buy separately. But I will say it's one of the best bikes I've ever owned and I consider it an investment piece. It is so light. Like everyone else has said I'd go to a couple of different bike shops (the…
  • I love to cook up some steel cut oats and add a couple teaspoons of demerara sugar and a couple dashes of cinnamon. Yummm....
  • Finally got into Gillian Flynn's novels. They had been on my reading list for FOREVER. They're not connected, but all have dark themes which I enjoy. Just finished Sharp Objects, now reading Dark Places, and can't wait for Gone Girl (that's the order she wrote them).
  • I'm willing to give it a go!
  • I'm signed up for my first half in Cleveland on May 18th! I'm a little nervous, but hoping it'll prep me for the women's half in Nashville in September (used to live in Nashville, but couldn't bear to make my first half in such a hilly local. Though surprisingly Cleveland’s course can be pretty hilly too, especially down…
  • Run, run, run, run! Thinking about getting some Yaktrax so I can get out there and run too... Mid-Ohio here... so. much. snow.
  • Nope. I use a ball cap now and I have no idea why I waited so long. ETA: I have a few lulu ones with the sticky stuff on the back side. They're great, but not for running and when a $20 headband pops off you MUST go back and find it. I like them for weight lifting where I’m not moving as much. Other accessories I love: My…
  • Are you weighing and measuring everything you eat? EVERYTHING? I bet you're eating more than you think.
  • Only 1 honestly (and that might not even be true... it's that fun time of the month to be a woman). I derailed long before Christmas and wasn't logging at all, but I kept pretty active over the holidays. A couple of trips to Sky Zone definitely helped!
  • If you're not able to get to a running store due to distance of said store you can do a quick analysis on yourself similar to what they would do at the store. Google how to read the bottoms of your current running shoes (where all of the wear is showing on the bottom, left/right/heel/toe) and get recommendation based on…
  • Eating that much at your age shouldn't be that difficult. You just need to find some light calorie dense foods you like. Nut butters, avocados, healthy oils, etc. should all become your new best friend.
  • :( Good game... you all were definitely the better team. With that said, I'm hoping Fl State can pull it off. So sick of the SEC.
  • Sounds good... might even add some protein powder in there for a full breakfast.
  • Graduate here (and actually kept the 10 min/mile pace they recommend). C25K is a great program for beginners. Don't hesitate to repeat weeks (I did this several times to get my pace to where I wanted it) and go slower if needed. I've completed several 5Ks at this point and am going to start training for my first half in…
  • I'm also 5'5" and am currently 139 (down from 145). It's not an unhealthy weight at all and you probably wear it well. If you're comfortable at 143 hang onto it. I personally don't like where my extra 20 lbs that I gained in college landed so I'm looking to lose. Right now 130 is my goal (or less body fat… I would be happy…
  • You've got to find a rhythm that works for you. For me it's two quick inhales in through my nose and a long exhale out of my mouth as my left foot hits the ground (I get side stiches quite easy and my left foot hitting as I breathe out assists in stopping this from happening). Do what is natural and easy for you and don’t…
  • Thanks for this! I too think it's time to put away the scale. Month one disappointed me in that regard. I too am in a healthy weight range so I know it's going to be harder to get those results. Time to soldier on.
  • Thanks for this. I'm in the middle of recovery week and I'm feeling bored and so disappointed. This post has renewed my drive to get back into it after the long weekend off.
  • I'm currently smack in the middle of the program and following it similarly to you. Eat well during the week, "cheat" on the weekends (I hate that word since it's not cheating technically... I'll eat this way for the rest of my life and don’t feel bad about it at all), and taking off several days here and there. Due to the…
  • Just like everyone has said: Insanity. Not boring at all.
  • Amen. ETA: Best flavors: Buckeye State, Vanilla Bean, Toasted Coconut, Sweet Potatoes and Toasted Marshmallows (tastes like sweet potato casserole and they hand toast the mallows), Whiskey Egg Nog, Cinderella Pumpkin.
  • If I’m going to eat ice cream I’m going to eat the good stuff. High quality, premium deliciousness. If you’re paying less than 5 bucks a half gallon you’re paying for air, lots and lots of air (yes, these cheap ice creams whip in as much air as they can to stretch the ice cream further). I recommend Graeter’s and Jeni’s.…
  • We got one of those Home Depot 5 gal buckets that is also strictly for brining birds. Glad we're not the only ones....
  • I didn't know there was such a thing as a "dry brine"... isn't that just a dry rub? A brine to me has to have a liquid, but what do I know. I perfer a brine over a rub, however (AB's brined turkey all the way). The brine really gets into the meat and keeps it very moist when cooking.
  • I used to live in the South and 55 F is NOT cold. Especially not for a dog. Now that I live in the frigid North I take my dogs out walking so long as it's above 10-15 F. They are small dachshunds with not much fur on their undersides. I bet an Aussie would love that weather.
  • RED WINE. ~115 calories per 5 oz (depending on the brand). I find it has the most bang for your buck. Though some here will have you believe no one in their right minds could like red wine.....
  • Um... I work out 6 days a week and I'm already a day behind so yeah. I'll be working out. I'm just going to get it done before everyone else wakes up. ETA: I work out at home, not at a gym so it's easy for me to schedule. If you're cutting out of family time for a work out that's douchy, but getting it in beforehand not at…
  • I too disagree. After 2 weeks of insanity I was up .5 lbs and at the beginning of week 4 I shed that plus a pound which proves I was accurately measuring and weighting my foods (I’m set to lose a half pound or less per week). The high intensity causes me to hold onto a lot of water weight and that very well might be what…
  • Awesome results! I'm finishing up month 1 today and have only lost one pound *tear* Enjoy month 2! I hear that's where all the magic happens.
