  • I busted up laughing when I read this! My BF's mom once asked me how I was doing, and I said "Tired." I had had 3 hours of sleep in as many days. She said, "Well, that's because you're overweight." My reply: "Yes, I'm sure it has more to do with my weight than lack of sleep. You must be EXHAUSTED. How do you do it?" For…
  • TOMORROW (8/5) is the big day. I left work on Friday to many hugs, best wishes and "You get better and get back in here 'cause I need you"s. Made me feel very good. I've made it through the clear liquid diet with just a few slips (it was either put something solid in my tum or have the migraine headache) and I kept it to a…
  • "As for being teased and bullied. I remember distinctly someone in high school I didn't know coming up to me in the hall between periods and saying "YOU"RE FAT" in my face. I looked right at them, feigned surprise, looked down at myself adn said, "When did that happen? when I woke up this morning I was a size 2! Damn it!"…
  • HELP!! I'm doing clear liquids pre-op and I had to warn co-workers today that I may be downright evil over this week and it's not personal. I need suggestions to make the growling tummy go away!
  • Thanks for talking about this, Holly. I have wondered over the years WHY I wasn't hired for certain jobs, and I think my weight / looks had a bit to do with it. Not all teachers can be blond and cute. I used to be teased about my weight when I was younger; the last one to do that in elementary school found his forehead…
  • Hi there! I'm Kim, and I am one week away from surgery. I did the planning, research, etc. and looked at the reasons for ME to do it - the fact that I GAINED 15 lbs. working out 3 days/week for an hour each time, was what sent me to the surgeon. Stinkin' thyroid disease did this to me. I'm like a big ol' magnet, and the…
  • LOL! Me too! I love shows on History, Military Channel... anything where I can learn something new. I'm a former teacher on my second career as a paralegal. I don't play RPGs but I'm a big Tomb Raider fan and the Hidden Object games on Big Fish Games are my faves.

  • Thank you SO much! Good luck on your surgery and beyond. This is quite a journey.
  • For the pureed foods, I hit the baby food aisle of the market. I found some good Gerber foods - whole wheat pasta & veggies, chicken & mashed potatoes, applesauce, etc. My mom loves to prepare my meals, so I am trying my best to make it easy for her when I'm post-op. I think the portion size will be about right too. I…
  • Hi Elaine! And a big hello to everyone else here! I'm Kim and I live on the East Coast. I'm having surgery on August 5th, and I am excited about it. I had started looking into gastric bypass since I wasn't losing weight any other way; I would exercise and GAIN weight. I already eat a very healthy diet, thanks to my mom…

  • My doctor told me 3 weeks is typical for recovery, but it also depends on what you do for a living. If you are at a job where there is heavy lifting and activity, you would most likely be out longer than someone who sits at a desk for most of the day. He signed me out for 3 - 4 week, 8/5 to 9/5.
  • OMG. kmm, You sound just like me. I'm new to this whole thing, and will be having gastric bypass surgery in about a month. I'm morbidly obese, according to my doctor, (I prefer the term "fluffy") but I also have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. I eat fruits, veggies and chicken and fish like it's going out of style. Toppings of…
