  • You're right. Sorry about that!
  • Hi Stephanie! Welcome! I had gastric bypass surgery last August and so protein is a BIG deal for me. My doctor recommended Unjury protein powder - it's sold online. It has no sugar, no calories and lots of flavors. (I just sing their praises; I don't get paid for it.) My problem is that I have a super sensitive nose, so I…
  • Hi thereI I have a Fitbit Zip and I love it. I've made a challenge for myself to walk at least 30 mins each day (sometimes it doesn't happen, however) and I am accountable to myself for my steps. I also have friends who have Fitbits and I challenge myself to keep pace with them. Definitely get one! There are plenty of…
  • Wax. I learned a few years ago that it was the best option for me. I followed all the advice re: shaving - brand new blade, warm water, wait a few minutes for the hair to 'plump up'... and sliced my underarm. Brand new, sharp razor... didn't feel it till I rinsed. PAIN. Since the hair comes out at the root with wax, no…
  • The ulcers were caused by the undissolved suture. Surpisingly, when the surgeon looked at the photos, it was just as if it had been put in yesterday. The thing had been in there from August to November, and it didn't cause an infection. My SIL was looking out for me. At 8 months out, I can eat pretty much anything. I still…

  • Yeah, same here. I do actually want to start weighing foods, but I'm not sure what kind of scale to buy.
  • Never saw this. I have an Android phone and sometime will log foods while I'm at work. It always tells me I don't eat enough.
  • My tum has a variety of names... "The Ruler" - because it rules my life, but more often it's "Mabel Harry". Mabel - Madea Simmons and Harry - as in "Dirty Harry". For a while, I think Madea and & Dirty Harry were living in my stomach... I have moments when my brain says, "That plate isn't empty yet... you can eat those…
  • I went from missing foods to missing LIQUIDS... Quick version of the last part of 2013: August 5th - surgery September 18th - my sister-in-law passed away suddenly. She and I both fought with our weight and she had had lap-band surgery a few years ago. She was my guide while I was researching surgery options. October 6th -…
  • I'm 1/2 way to my goal... or a bit more than half, as DBF pointed out to me. 1 dress size to go, and I crossed the 'century mark' from surgery day... I'm walking during my lunch hour, and am trying to get back to that 1-mile walk. I bought a FitBit (the little one you can clip on) and since we moved to a new office, I find…
  • Trying to eat - and seeing what co-workers bring to work for lunch - is a bit frustrating. Sandwiches just look so good, yet I can't stand the texture of bread. I have been going for walks at lunch, just so I can get out and away from people and their food. A co-worker had wonton soup today and it looked so good... but I'm…
  • Welcome, Michelle! I know exactly how you feel. I was in purees while you were having surgery. That time feels like it DRAGS by, because you see all these wonderful things that you want to eat ... but can't. If the pureed food doesn't sit well in your stomach, just back it up for a week and go back to full liquid. Foods…
  • Monday, I stopped at the supermarket on the way home and bought ground turkey. I don't like the texture of beef anymore; it's changed since I was a kid. I also found these cute little one-serving cups of brown rice. A dash of kosher salt, pepper and 2 tsp. of "good dijion mustard" a la "Barefoot Contessa" and I was makin'…
  • Welcome, stroynaya! Hang in there; your liquid intake will improve with time. Just keep sipping.
  • I was off pain drugs when I was discharged from hospital. I'm used to drinking close to a gallon of water a day, and now I can't. If it's a side effect of being intubated, I am almost 4 weeks out of surgery. It shouldn't be that long, should it?
  • Hi everyone! I go by CHC94 online, and I had my RNY surgery on August 5th of this year. I started out at 329 on 7/28, hit 312 when I was weighed right before surgery and have blasted through the lower 300s and into the 200s. I am now at 296, a number I haven't seen in about 3 years. I want to keep this pace, but…
  • Energy? What's that? I had one big burst last week, and then I came home and slept for 3 days. I am tired all the time.

  • I had a "comin' to Jesus" meeting with my surgeon yesterday. I haven't been putting protein in my food up until now... and I STILL can't get that 60mg in! I've been adding the unflavored protein to soups, because that's where I can't taste it. Since I can't drink milk, my options for all those delicious smoothies I've seen…
  • Since we're discussing the whole going back to work and rejoining the world issue, has anyone been EXHAUSTED in the middle of the days post-op? I'm 2 weeks post op, don't have cute incision scars yet and I'm probably worrying needlessly when I should concentrate on healing. I don't know what to do. My sleep schedule is all…
  • I went to the meeting tonight and learned a LOT! I also got to meet our mod, Nick & his wife Cathy. Everyone there was very supportive and the best part - I AM on the right track for 2 weeks out of surgery. Yay!
  • Tomorrow night is my first meeting! I'm so excited!! I finally get to talk to others IRL and find out if I'm being way too careful with my foods or am on the right track... Is there anything going on earlier - group walk or anything? And is there signage to direct members? Created by MyFitnessPal.com - Nutrition Facts For…
  • I found this when I searched Google: http://www.shopfoodex.com/kraft-free-mayo-p-26350.html I don't know if you have found it or not, since it's been over a year since this post, but it can only help. :-)
  • In one year, I hope to be where you are now. This is a lot of work - I knew that when I started this process. What I didn't take into account was my fear of making myself sick by doing something dumb. So I'm adding days on my food program where I probably don't need to and just being really careful.
  • I have crushable meds. So I bought a pill crusher. I still need to order the Unjury protein. That's my big sticking point. I don't know why I can't just order it and put it in my food. I'm also trying to get the exercise part in.
  • "One Week" by Barenaked Ladies is going through my head right now... it's been one week (and a couple days) since my surgery and I feel fine. (Can't leave out REM!) Up to full liquid / puree foods right now. My biggest obstacles are (1) finding food that doesn't have a boatload of sugar and (2) getting the protein in. I…
  • A friend called this "mindful eating". I worked out a system. Turn on your favorite TV show. Now, lick the spoon ONLY during the opening sequence. Watch the show. First commercial, 2 licks of the spoon. This has worked for my full liquid phase so far. Or I time myself to one spoon lick every 20 minutes or so.
  • Two boxes are in my freezer. I started experimenting with them in my "pre-op, eat what you want and experiment" stage. Wegmans brand is really good. I had a Gerber strawberry baby yogurt for dinner. It only took me 2 hours since I licked it off the spoon. ;-) In other news, should I be this TIRED? I mean, walk-a-marathon…
  • I've had a couple "booty toots", but nothing like before, where I looked like a balloon when you let go of the end. I am needing some variety in my clear liquid. I have: sugar free Jello (which doesn't taste sugar free) water & water / juice mix broth herbal tea w/o sugar (peppermint, passion fruit, lemon zinger, red…
  • Right now, I'm resting. Walking around the house, up and down stairs. My back and stomach feel as if I've done 1000 sit-ups. Is that normal? Otherwise, feeling good. A 2-mile walk... I'll need to work up to that. Good for you!
  • Hi there! Is this meeting for OLL patients only or can anyone who has had bariatric surgery join? I had my surgery in Philly, but I work in NJ until 6 pm. I need to find a group that fits my work schedule and I'm in the general vicinity of your location.
