I am a fermented foods *kitten*!!! I consume homemade raw yogurt, all types of home fermented veggies and fruits, Water kefir and kombucha, sourdough, and so on. I have probably 7 or 8 jars of different ferments in the fridge right now. My general recipe is for a 2% brine in which I combine 19 grams of salt with 1 quart of…

I mentioned India originally because my family eats this way as you say, naturally. They are vegetarians but they do practice a traditional diet. I absolute agree with you that many cultures eat this way naturally and it can be sustainable simply because their food constructs just aren't set up the way ours are in the US.…

Exactly! Thank you! I am not trying to convert anyone or preach what should or shouldn't be done. Why does everything have to turn into an argument. We are all here to share, support, and grow. At least that is why I am here!

If the chosen few include most of the traditional world cultures then yes, I am one, and proud to be so. These concepts are based off the lifestyles of a traditional diet. My family and friends in India follow this lifestyle without even knowing it. I have even been scolded by more than one Auntie for not soaking my rice…

That's not the point *palm to forhead*. This works for me and many others I know, simply trying to provide information and a different point of view :)

I thought maybe i would give a little information about WAPF for those of you unfamiliar. These guidelines are taken directly from the Weston A. Price Foundation website http://www.westonaprice.org/ . Some of them are a bit strict for me, I mean don't tell me what pots and pans to cook in and if I have really clean well…

My go to, easy weeknight meal is Roast chicken with roasted roots and cauliflower in some form or another. I spatchcock the chicken then roast it at 400 for an hour, throwing the root veggies in at the 15 minute mark. I baste the chicken every ten minutes in the last 30 of cooking and the skin gets super crispy and…

I'm here!!!! I follow 80/20 Primal WAPF and would love to find some peoples who do to or at least understand traditional foods. Hit me up if any of y'all are still around :)

I am sorry you had that experience with folks! I think the point is to avoid processed foods such as HFCS, margarine, etc., ie "fake foods" I see it as a return to food food, not fast food or chemically derived "food" I think your pasta sauce looks lovely :)

Nope, there is a farm down the street from me where I buy my raw milk and grass fed/finished and pastured meats and cheeses. Raw milk, when purchased from a reputable source is full of fabulous enzymes that aid with digestion and inflammation. Many people who cannot digest pasteurized milk can digest raw milk. It may not…

Full fat dairy from grass fed/grass finished cows and preferably unpasteurized/raw is the best. As far as breads go, if you are going to eat them, then look for a sourdough or sprouted as they will be easiest to digest. And absolutely non-GMO!! Good for you deciding to do this for your body!!! You will feel amazing at the…

Freezing would be the best way unless you have experience canning. Soups can be canned but you need a pressure canner instead of water bath due to the low acidity. I invested in a food saver and soon will be getting a chest freezer. A few times a week I make a double or triple batch of something for dinner then freeze out…

Legumes and grains are high in phytates which make them not only hard to digest but they also bind to other nutrients like magnesium, iron, and calcium rendering them useless to your body. "Phytic acid is the principal storage form of phosphorus in many plant tissues, especially the bran portion of grains and other seeds.…

We used to eat fried chicken hearts and livers growing up, I loved them and miss them. I have yet to find a satisfactory sub for my mom's fried chicken method so will likely not have them soon. A farm near me has an awesome price on grass fed/finished cow hearts and I have been dying to try a cow heart stew. Otherwise i…

That's fabulous! I am so proud of you. I was amazed by the way refined sugars tasted waaay too sweet to me at the end as well. I never looked back although I do like a naturally sweetened goody way to often. But, you worked really hard and pushed through, now go celebrate with more grass fed beef and veggies :) And, I'm…

I admit that I WANT to fall into that trap. It takes a lot of work to change your reward system when food has been it for so long, in my case. My new favorite is buying new workout clothing or a massage when I reach a weight goal.

Lol, what do you want to know, been making it for about 2 years with a 1 year hiatus....can help. message or friend me :)

Dude, my favorite breakfast food is cabbage and ground beef sauteed in bacon fat with hot sauce and homemade sauerkraut. I keep the ground meat cooked with no season in a container in the fridge as well as the cabbage, partially cooked. then I throw it in a skillet in the am, add garlic powder, paprika, salt and pepper. If…

[quote ugh yes, i am 26 now... nights out that wouldnt have affected me at all 5 years ago now result in a completely wasted day. its crazy how it changes. guess i need to invest in quality [/quote] Wait till you're 36! I had a few glasses of wine last night and feel like I was hit by a bus this AM! Is it really worth it?…

Absolutely, you can reach out to me as well at anytime. I didn't do it keto but I did it whole hog (no pun intended, but really). I am also pretty good at trouble shooting foods so if you are stuck for anything and want to bounce ideas around, I am here. Advice, same as Akima to push through and just do it, no questions,…

Wow y'all, great info. Thank you! I have been reading everything I can get my hands on including articles you all pointed me to. I also grabbed an e-book that is advertised by a few of my favorite bloggers http://eatfatlosefatblog.com/shop/lose-weight-with-keto-ketogenic-paleo-diet/ . I find all of this to be fascinating…

I was week three into my Whole30 when I started noticing major changes! I was sleeping through the night, my body hurt less, I was way more energized through the day, everything was "moving" through my system well and I stopped having stomach issues. Then, it only took a week of re-intro to start seeing the symptoms of…

^^this is how my mom, Texan since the time that Texas began, told me to do it if i wasn't going to smoke it. Although it's slightly sacrilege to not smoke a brisket in my family, this oven recipe turns out every time and is almost as delicious!!! It's great with the "It Starts Wth Food" or other paleo/compliant BBQ sauce!

I have a hardcore vegan friend with whom I have food discussions all the time. She is so adamantly against my preffered way of eating and refuses to budge. She works out 2-3 hours a day but is still skinny fat. This time last year we both had failing joints, arthritis that hindered our daily life, allergies, and were over…

I prefer to use local raw honey or organic maple syrup when using a sweetener. I did pick up some coconut crystals today because I am testing some tea based dessert recipes with a friend who has a huge intolerance to most sugars of any sort, even in fruit. Hopefully she can digest this.....I will let you know if I end up…

I have read in a few places, one of them being a source I trust, the Wellness Mama quote: " If you aren’t regularly taking coconut oil, start with a teaspoon and work up as too much at once might upset your stomach. Coconut oil often increases metabolism and some people notice feeling warmer or like their heart is racing…

Perhaps post this question in the primal/paleo support group. Tons of really educated peeps over there who can give you more than what you bargained for in answers :)
