Hahahahahaha, omg, that is so ridiculous.

Hahaha, it wasn't the same guy, was it?
-
Hahahaha - usually I just stand on my porch with a shotgun to keep people away.

That's a fair point - and the article doesn't really discuss people just taking walks in their neighborhoods - houses farther out probably have some nice nature walks nearby. But that's more deliberate than just walking to the store and back, which I supposed was the point of this article. The average energy expenditure…

This - I've logged pretty much every day since I started logging, even though vacations and work trips. Yes, sometimes I've logged hundreds of calories over, but I think it's still good to be mindful of what you're eating. Also, I'm pretty sure every person on here has lost and regained the weight (myself included) - just…

Dried edamame is always a good go-to for me. Or some Kashi Go-Lean cereal. Both have a decent amount of protein and fiber :)

I took a look at your diary, and if you're logging accurately, you're barely reaching 1500 cals/day - I saw a few days under 1200 cals, which is way too little for your stats and activity level. I would start increasing calories and get to at least 2000 cals/day. In general, when people start out with such a deficit, it's…

It sounds like you are focusing most of your routine on cardio - I would reverse that. Find a lifting program that you can stick with for a few months (not weeks, months) - I know that 5/3/1, Starting Strength, 5x5 are all ones that come up quite often on here, but feel free to find one that works best for you. Focus on…

All of that arguing aside, I've been doing 40/30/30 for the past few months and I enjoy it in general. It doesn't mean that I'm perfect with it all the time, but it really helps me focus on getting enough protein as I've been lifting heavy as well. I've found that it's influenced by food choices in a positive way. At the…

It also sounds like a lot of the families that the article focuses on are in areas where healthy eating isn't the norm and it's really difficult to find produce. I think that's an underlying paradox of some areas in this country: food desert, where there's a **** ton of calories without nutritional value.

I enjoy doing both :) I've been lifting heavy for a little while, and now I'm starting the 5/3/1 program (we'll see how that goes, but I'm excited to have a set routine!). Lifting heavy things is fun, and makes me feel like a stronger person. My cardio, usually elliptical or running, gives me more leeway for food…

It's really easy to feel guilty about food, and I think an important aspect of this journey is to learn how to moderate those feelings or understand that eating is, in general, a good thing! Something that really helps me is to repeat to myself that any food I put in my mouth is a choice that I am making consciously - so,…

I have similar stats to you (5'7, currently 162), and my BMR is 1500 cals/day (done through BodPod, so it's accurate). It's possible that this is your body's reaction to you eating less than your BMR. If you're worried about losing too much, too quickly, maybe add a spoonful of PB at the end of the day to get to 1500 cals?…

Woohooo! It's always inspiring and a good reminder to stay consistent and stick the system that works :) I'm also reformatting my thinking because it takes time! And at the end of the day, I'd rather be five lbs lighter in two months than five lbs heavier :) Nice job!

Smoked salmon! Woot! It's delicious. I usually do 1 regular egg + 1/2 egg whites + 2 oz smoked salmon. Also, if you don't want to lose muscle quickly, you want to shrink your calorie deficit (i.e. eat more). If you just take a look at the myriad of posts on here, a lot of success stories start with "I started out at 1200,…

Increasing weights is always encouraged, as that will challenge and build your muscles (as will changing up your exercise routine). A lot of people on here have commented on how lifting weights is what really shreds those inches, but you have to be patient with it because it's a slow process. As to why you're not seeing…

Congrats on your success :) The one thing that stands out to me is the fact that you only eat 1200 cals/day and you're a young male (to put it in perspective, I'm a 5'7 female and my BMR - basal metabolic rate - is just over 1500 cals). I would definitely start increasing calories by 100-200 cals per week until you reach…

I got mine tested with the BodPod, which gives BF%, as well as BMR and TDEE. It wasn't too expensive (about $40) and the numbers were cool to see. You can google it, and then see if there's one in your area. I recommend you get it tested just to be sure that your metabolism has slowed down. There might be some other ways…

I think the other aspect to point out is that 1200 might be too low for you. When I had my BMR measured with a BodPod, it came back as 1508 cals/day, which means that is the amount of energy it takes to keep my body running without doing anything else. Literally nothing else. I would start out with a more modest weight…

First off, I usually go for the 2% because it tastes sooo much better than 0%. I also add honey or strawberries or half a packet of splenda to make it sweeter :)
-
I usually judge it by how many calories I have left in the week - if I have a lot left, I don't mind doing a cheat day because it still fits in my calories for the week. And it adds some variety :)

I am all for support! I'm back on after an extended hiatus. Love having friends to keep me motivated!

that sounds like an overestimate of cals - biking burns maybe 350 cals/hour. yoga burns around the same amount, maybe less. same with walking. i would think you're burning a total between 1000-1400 cals...
-
i like vichy - especial their aqualia line, which is super light and not greasy or heavy at all...plus, it smells great! just a light scent.
-
wow - what a difference! you can definitely see the muscle definition. what program are you following? are you weight lifting, doing cardio, a combination?
-
i was in a similar situation - i was with this guy for almost 4 years. and he's wonderful, sweet, funny and smart, there weren't really any inherent issues. and he loved me sooo much - but the problem is, no matter how much he loves you, if you don't love him in that way or if you aren't sure if you want to marry him, then…

it's about 200 cals, with about 21 grams of protein, 20 grams of carbs, and 4 grams of fat :)
-
while i haven't personally spent money on a trainer, i think that it might add extra motivation to know that you put a lot of money into yourself. and honestly, spending money for your health is probably the best way to use your money. think about it: instead of spending money on those daily mochaccinos, it's like you're…

i add cut-up strawberries to my greek yogurt and it tastes sooo goood. oh man...i've also added kashi go lean to greek yogurt, which comes out well also.

the basic plan is to eat more protein, eat every 2-4 hours, work out and focus on body-building. also, he says that's better to exercise more than eat less. i think that's just about it in a nutshell!
