  • I make my own sauce which consists of honey, tamari, lemon juice, garlic, jalapeno, and fresh ground ginger. Really good! It's a bit spicy, a bit sweet, and a bit soy-saucy. Just right =) Definitely always use fresh vegetables: carrots, broccoli, sugar snap peas, onions, etc. I pile the veggies on. Serve over brown basmati…
  • My husband tried it for fun for just a day because I was doing it (he's very thin and is not using MFP for weight loss). He's thin, but he's out of shape. He has a desk job and is quite sedentary. It was really challenging for him--he says he was sore for a week! So no, I wouldn't say that 30 DS is just for women--what…
  • Yes, Cowboy. You were able to comprehend that correctly. Tolerance goes both ways. It is just as hypocritical for someone with liberal values to promote those liberal values (such as open marriages) onto others and expect them to tolerate their choices, as it is for conservative/traditionals to push their conservative…
  • Well, you sort of have to be a very, very liberally minded in order to hold your viewpoint. And what YOU need to remember is not everyone is so liberal. Where's YOUR open-mindedness and respect for those who are more conservative and/or traditional?
  • Well said!
  • And when and if you fall in love with one of your partners? What then?
  • Pssh, well a real marriage is much more than just sex. It seems to me that in an open "marriage" the "married" couple are simply just "friends with benefits." What's the point? Why not just stay single and sleep around? Is the marriage for the tax benefits? I see a lot of people getting married for the wrong reasons…
  • You can get either DVD for free if you have a Netflix subscription. I tried the 30 DS and did the first level, 10 days straight. I'm not sure I recommend doing it for 30 days straight because it made me gain a lot of water weight that was slow to come off. You can get quite sore too, so it would have been nice if I would…
  • But isn't the oil in the peanuts the good part? I mean, the fats/oils in peanuts help promote a healthy cardiovascular system.
  • I know how you feel. I hate being wasteful too. Just think positive: if you can fix your metabolic issues, you can return to eating your favorite foods (including cereal) in moderation. I don't have blood sugar problems anymore and I eat 1-2 servings of grains a day including brown rice, quinoa, millet, etc. What's…
  • Definitely. Decreased carbs and exercise (daily). Elevated triglycerides are often a part of metabolic syndrome. Triglycerides are very temporary and will lower quickly with a good diet and daily exercise.
  • It's not just the sugars. It's the grain itself, especially wheat, which is high GI. Even with little sugar added, they will still make your blood sugar skyrocket if you have insulin resistance. When I went gluten free, I donated all my grains/wheat products to members of my family so that I didn't have to just throw them…
  • Be wary of Metformin unless you really need it and your doctor feels strongly about it. My doctor said it doesn't help the underlying problem--it only delays the inevitable unless you make lifestyle changes. I used Metformin before I fixed my insulin resistance issues and it made a lot of my hair fall out because the dose…
  • Cardio exercise is great for bringing down blood sugar. Certain foods such as cinnamon, onions (which contain chromium), buckwheat (not a grain--it's really a fruit seed!), and oyster mushrooms (which have been used to make statin drugs) will help to increase insulin sensitivity. I included these foods in my diet…
  • I am sorry to hear you've been diagnosed with type II Diabetes. I don't have diabetes, but I did at one point have insulin resistance (which leads to prediabetes) and used Metformin for it. I fixed my blood sugar issues by exercising (cardio) daily, especially after dinner, my largest meal, and I have normal blood…
  • Uhm, what's in it then to make the calories so low? I mean, peanut butter is understood to be made of peanuts, which are naturally high in calories and fat. Is it just peanut butter-flavored water?
  • Wow! And you look younger and healthier too!
  • Men lose weight faster than women so you can't really compare yourself to the comments here from males. They burn more calories when exercising and they burn more calories while at rest. My husband can lose weight accidentally (he doesn't even need to), while I have to really work at it.
  • It depends on your heart rate and weight. I burn about 450 cals in 45 min, but you'll likely be different.
  • Try hiking?
  • I just use lite. Miracle whip is disgusting, in my opinion.
  • Try taking probiotics every day. Seriously! I couldn't handle cheese or any dairy and then I built up my gut with some beneficial bacteria and I can eat dairy again in moderation.
  • I love to grow heirlooms! I have an herb garden I can walk out to from my kitchen, which is great. My husband has made me tons of cool trellises and arbors for my long Asian beans. Can't wait for the snow to melt!
  • Dedication and self-discipline driven by vanity... When I was single I remember the muscular gym rat guys as being sort of self-absorbed, to put it mildly. I'd take an intelligent and kind man over one who was merely "ripped" any day!
  • If only this were true. The cans holding the canned vegetables and fruit usually contain BPA, which is a very toxic chemical made from oil. In some cases, saving a few cents really isn't worth it.
  • I forgot to add that if you have an extra bit of time, you could work for a CSA. My CSA requires people to work for 4 hours a week in exchange for two grocery bags of produce (at least a $75 dollar value if you are buying organic at a store). If you have the time, it's a very good deal.
  • Spring is around the corner. If you plant a garden, you'll get tons of vegetables for the price of a seed packet (usually only a dollar or two for each seed packet). Very economical. You can then freeze vegetables or can things like tomatoes. You could try dry beans instead of canned. Brown rice is very cheap, and so are…
  • I have a HRM. It's actually more like 27 minutes, and I burn 275 currently on Day 9 of Level 1. I'm female, 5'8", 187 lbs and my average heart rate is around 160 bpm maxing at about 180. I recommend getting a heart rate monitor.
  • Veganism and Vegetarianism will drastically lower your cholesterol.
