While raw fruit and veggie sugar is BETTER, it still means a higher amount of carbs and sugar in the body. While I don't specifically worry about it, I have read that you should keep it lower - ie, eat a big bowl of spinach instead of an apple if your sugar is getting high for the day.

I've been big into baby carrots right now - 3 oz is perfect for a good sized snack and it's only 35 calories...add some celery or cucumber for variety. I also like seaweed chips, low cal and yummy. Dark chocolate (1 square per day) is great. Nuts, dried fruit, crackers, pre-packaged cheese (think little rounds, squares,…

I haven't tried it yet - as it's expensive, but one site that uses it ALL the time is: chocolatecoveredkatie.com - she has tons of good recipes on here and that's her oil of choice hope that helps!

bump - Might try that zucchini soup with greek yogurt instead of sour cream this weekend! The others sound good but wouldn't be enjoyed by DH (neither would the soup, that's ok though!)

One thing no one has mentioned - if you are trying to bulk up at the gym, protein is what you need (think beans and rice) and even if it's "good sugar" or whatever - it's still carbs. So maybe the trainer is just trying to get you to reduce carbs and increase protein. Try eating something like 1 cup greek yogurt and 1/2…

Another option, if you are looking for a hot drink, is a bit of lemon squirted into hot water. Of course some might consider this tea! My fav. tea is peppermint (it's just dried leaves mixed with hot water) and lemon juice....

Pick a spice theme - I like italian (ie basil, lemon, thyme, olive oil, cheese) Coat it and make a baked chicken breast with a panko crust Stuff it with cheese or pesto My stand-by is usually oregano, basil, lemon juice, olive oil - coat and bake until done, then serve with pasta and tomato sauce

Good to refresh this topic - yes, making popcorn is REALLY easy! Three ways: 1. microwave as described (you can also toss with oil and salt in a bag first, or add herbs for flavor 2. on the stove (~ 1 tbsp oil in a pot, add in 3 kernels, once they pop, add the rest and keep covered, shake to keep from burning, season…

Eep - a lot of thoughts here on the topic! My two cents? Make your own pasta! It's really, really easy - flour and water, add an egg if you want - start with flour and a little water and keep adding more till you get the right consistency, then boil immediately. This way, you can use whatever flour type you want!

I do! If I drink that much tea, it runs through me like water...I don't use "sugar" though, just lemon juice usually.

Wasa crackers, thomas thin bagels, lettuce, saltine crackers... we also make our own bread so we can adjust salt, sugar, add-ins, etc...

Try getting more protein from sources other than animal too - but the way this "program" is set up is that you can decide what ratio is best for you...so if you like lots of protein, that's ok!
-
cool idea - not sure if it's just a fad thing though! I do eat yogurt almost every day - either individual containers (I like Cascade Fresh) or get a bulk container and put into smaller containers. Yogurt is high in protein and calcium - both are important for building healthy muscles. Your recipe sounds yummy, although a…

Eggs (hard boiled) Pasta salad (I like them cold - just make pasta and add in cheese, black olives, tomato (cut small) and toss with a bit of olive oil) Cold soup (like cucumber) Also, aluminum foil will keep things pretty warm for several hours - if you get a hot pack (they have them for hands and feet in sporting good…

Try keeping some almonds in your purse/bag/desk drawer. Also, a pouch of tuna (much tastier and better) will keep in the same area. Eat on wasa crackers instead of salty ones. Check out what places are around you for fast food - subway, for example, has an oven roasted chicken breast instead of deli meat. Finally, I think…

First - real dark chocolate has very little sugar (my Lindt 85%, for example, has 5 g for 4 squares) so I suggest finding 1-2 kinds that you like that are low and then having 1-2 pieces per day of that. I find that giving myself a little something makes it easier than quitting cold turkey. Second, some fruit has a TON of…

If you are munching because you need "something" - nuts aren't the best choice (try seaweed chips, one dried spaghetti noodle, popcorn, celery, etc) but if you are eating nuts because they are good for you with respect to protein, fiber, healthy fats and oils, etc then build them into your calorie goal (ie, 1/2 oz almonds…

Everyone has already hit one nail - compare all nutrients. But in general, granola is NOT a healthy snack - it is usually made with lots of added sugars and refined grains. Some bars (like KIND brand) are better. However, I would recommend moving to almonds, eggs, and other protein sources. If you want the sweet granola…

As mentioned, there's no "it" ratio. However, protein should be at least 10% (and no less than 50g for a male) to 25%...fat should be 20-30% and then carbs 45-65% - if you are active and trying to loose weight, I'd do something like 20% protein, 22% fat, 58% carbs - but make sure those are good carbs, not empty bread types…

I'd suggest finding another vet - if you live in a big city, there should be tons! Here's a website you could look through as well: http://www.veterinarians.com/ As much fun as it is to hear medical issues online, I wouldn't mess around with my pet's health! If there's blood, they need a vet. If there's a lump, they need a…

I ate really well on $20-25 a week by myself in grad school so it can be done. I did stock up on just a few things, rather than a huge variety. Here's sample: Breakfast: cereal, milk, frozen berries Lunch: tuna, crackers, celery, tomato, cheese Supper: ground beef (93/7), 1/2 can corn, 1/2 can beans, rice snacks would be…

*HOPE MY HUSBAND DOESN'T READ PAST THIS* I got my husband a pair of fleece lined pants (we live in a colder part of the country), and I also signed up for a 10 day trial of ordering video games online (gamefly.com) and I'm borrowing a wii from a friend so he can play the latest Zelda since he really wants to and I don't…

I like Fage Greek yogurt - 1 cup = 24g protein and 130 calories As mentioned, cottage cheese is also good, 1/2 cup = 12 g protein and 100 calories. Almonds are good, but high in calories. I'd do something like this: Egg + egg white, canadian bacon, 1/2 cup greek yogurt, berries - breakfast 1/2 oz almonds, string cheese -…

I think you already said the perfect recipe: just use any fruit instead of strawberries (banana, raspberries, blueberries...) I also like to add a bit of honey and vanilla..sometimes cinnamon is also good. If you want a dairy free one, use ice and water or low cal juice frozen fruit works best to keep the smoothie cold -…

Another slight negative (from my DH): you get cold faster since you don't have as much bulk to keep warm! As for lotions, try something with vitamin E or A

I'm another person who rarely eats these "diet" foods - fake sugar makes me sick and so I'd rather use real sugar or honey... I do eat lower fat yogurt and cottage cheese, but usually those are made with skim milk instead of whole milk - and since I can't drink whole milk anyway, it's an easy sub for me. I also don't eat…

This is one of the reasons I gain weight whenever I go home (GA). Suggestions: eat healthy for breakfast and lunch - try and eat more of your calories when you control the food, and then eat a smaller sized supper bring snacks with you throughout the day so you aren't starving when you get back to the house give your cook…

It's not bad for a one time thing - but in the future, try to measure them out first, so you don't have ton in front of you! Plus, almonds are super healthy and the fat in them isn't as bad as say, a stick of butter, so just move on and use the info that you love that nut for future snack planning!

It's better to try and be close to a goal number when loosing weight. If you find yourself going under, keep some greek yogurt and almonds in the house - both of these are really healthy and can get your numbers up with a small amount of food. Another quick, good thing to eat is a smoothie: 1/2 cup milk 1/2 cup fruit (or…
