I got it but I didn't end up liking it that much...it works well if you eat a lot of processed foods, but I don't. I'd say use your BF's app and see what you think!

Wow, awesome ideas here! Two things to add: 1. Make sure to have lots of WATER with you - sodas and such are just as bad - you can put it in a cooler with ice and cold snacks. 2. Keep in mind that, even though it's 13 hours of super boring time, it's only 13 hours! How much do you usually eat in that time period? Maybe 2-3…

Roasted - with or without salt/spices Boiled, with salt (microwave for faster results) In stir fry Mixed with rice and asian spices With corn as a side dish... While they are very good for you, they are high in calories and whatnot, eat in moderation.

I want to add a warning that fish oil MAY interact negatively with cancer drugs - so if you are being treated with certain cancer drugs, be aware that recent literature has shown a negative result. Otherwise make sure it's high in omega-3 - or just eat more fish ;-)

Green tea would probably count - since it's basically flavored water. Perhaps half count it if you are worried? In general, I'd say minimally processed things are better - peppermint tea, spearmint tea, etc and things that are more processed are worse (ie, chai). I also try not to go by "number of servings of water" but…

Not sure what you consider light... but vegetables are generally better than meat which is better than pasta/grains in terms of low calories so try and enhance the veggies first, then meat, then add grains if needed For tonight, for example, we're having roasted butternut squash (1/2 each), mushrooms, and quiona - the…

Just add fruit to your regular water! Freeze some raspberries and then use them as "ice cubes" or add cucumber slices or add a squeeze of lemon or add some frozen blueberries or some fresh cut strawberries. Usually any water from the store with "stuff" in it isn't as good - just make it yourself, it's REALLY easy.

I like my ninja blender set - they are great for everything from pesto to smoothies to batter for pancakes. The blades and containers and tops are dishwasher safe so really easy to keep clean.

Have a little bit of a splurge. Don't eat rice or tortillas but do let yourself have some chips and salsa (but LOAD up on salsa per each chip, consider it a "move to mouth" option) Ask for the drink but split it with your partner. I think grilled veggies are good and chicken is also good, just ask for sauce on the side and…

Spice it up - I like lemon pepper spice and then put it on a sandwich with tomato, cucumber, celery, or whatever veggies you have. It also goes well with egg on a bagel or with cheese on a bread slice (think open faced tuna sandwich).

An alternative to ordering the product is to make it yourself! Check out chocolatecoveredkatie.com for a recipe - I made it (in pie form) and everyone really enjoyed it!

Try frozen bananas that have been mixed in a blender/food processor. You can add peanut butter to increase protein, chocolate powder, strawberries, etc are also good additions.

So many traditional dishes! We went off a bit this year: Apps: Spinach-Artichoke Dip Bagel chips pumpkin seeds pomegrante baked apple chips chex mix (homemade) Drinks: apple cider xxx eggonog (alcoholic!) spiced beer (by a friend) soda, wine, other beer, etc Main: 21 lb turkey butternut squash/apple/cranberry/walnut bake…

I like chocolatecoveredkatie.com - and skinnytaste is great too! I try not to go to many cooking blogs or I get hungry!!! :-)

I tried it for a party - it was alright (and no one guessed the ingredients) but it wasn't as huge a hit as I'd hoped and I could tell the difference in taste... CCK has lots of other (better) recipes to check out though!

The cabbage recipe sounds interesting - I wonder how hard it is to cook, as I've never done that :-P Thanks for the ideas this week! I'll have to try chopping my turkey (as we don't have a grinder but we have lots of leftover turkey) instead for the burgers.

This is an issue of mine too - thanks for the tips everyone! I usually try and make sure I have at least as much potassium as I do sodium (1600 mg). These two work to open and close ion channels in your body to keep nutrients flowing and your brain, etc working. So I figure if they at least balance, then things will open…

Sounds interesting - might do it next week when DH is out of town and thus I can eat what I want ;-)

For this site - look for foods reported in weight instead of "cups" etc - it's a more accurate way to eat and it's useful for everything packaged (like cereal, instead of 1 cup, weigh your bowl, tear it, then weigh your cereal). You can also get an estimate of milk, juice, etc - for the first time, measure it, then weigh…

My best suggestion is just search the forums - there are TONS of other people in the same situation! There are also blogs galore to help you with recipes, lifestyle changes, etc. Finally, start looking for gluten alternative flours, etc and that way you can keep eating "breads" and other things. There are lab tests that…

Pasta with veggies - pasta water takes 5 min, pasta takes 5-7 min, veggies cook in pan while pasta water heats/pasta cooks. Add a slice of bread, toasted, and a glass of milk. If you have fruit, cut some up while waiting for stuff to cook.

It shouldn't do too much, but just do a toothpick test, mini cheesecakes also cook much faster than big ones and they may be hard to get out of the pan (use a liner). Also look at: http://chocolatecoveredkatie.com/ for tons of other dessert ideas that might help you with variety.

cottage cheese (1/2 cup) nori (seaweed) - I have "snack chips" and 90 chips is 90 calories, plus it gives you something to munch on forever apple + 1/2 tbsp pb banana yogurt + strawberries oatmeal really any protein and high fiber foods...

Sorry to hear of your new diagnosis, it's a bummer but there are tons of alternatives! Here's one site that you will fall in love with: http://chocolatecoveredkatie.com/ Her stuff is all dairy free and she's a vegan dessert cook... As mentioned, there are several alternatives to almost all dairy products, you just have to…

I like your list - can I add orange juice and apple juice for the turkey? It makes a great brine and a great "moist-alternative" while cooking! Also, there's no need for stuffing in a turkey, not adding it helps to keep the food healthier! And for eating - I don't panic over food, but I do try and moderate... As mentioned,…

You should eat until you feel comfortable. You must have exercised a lot to get that much back! If your goal is weight loss, let those extra calories ride. If your goal is maintenance, it might be better to eat them back if you don't feel overfull afterward. Some people here will burn more than 1600 calories a day and they…

I hear you on the DH thing! Mine is making fantastic meals for my birthday week - but that means no room for any of these yummy foods!! I plan on making the soup this weekend and also freezing it for individual lunches, it sounds like it'll be great for that! The risotto is a perfect dish to take for a thanksgiving, it is…

You can make your own pesto too - fresh basil in a food processor, add a bit of oil (up to you), add pinenuts (again, up to you), and then when it's to the consistency you want, add a grating of fresh parmesan cheese - you can freeze everything but the cheese if you want. Arugula also makes a good pesto, or a good way to…

Work out more to balance the calories... Or just let it go - I have been overeating on every Sat/Sun of the month (Oct & Nov so far) and I haven't gained any weight...it's ok sometimes, just do it in moderation (ie, nurse 1 beer instead of chugging three, a sip of water for every sip of beer helps that last longer). If you…

What about just not using beans? If you want that goopy feel, you could top with sour cream or guacamole... Or make half without beans for your OH - we do a lot of that at my house!
