Jason - I believe the recipe makes 6 large servings!

The real theory behind that is 8 oz of added fluids - so tea, water, milk, juice, plain coffee, etc would count (but some of those also add calories!). If you add lemon, cucumber, or other flavors (natural please, no crap stuff) that might help you.... And for sure have a water bottle with you at all times! Just as long as…

I would suggest planning out your meals for the day in advance, then you will be able to portion them out better. Water flavored with cucumber or lemon juice is a good option with no calories. Salt has no calories. Sugar, fruits, veggies, and so forth DO have calories so don't count them as "free". Gum is another thing I…

If sweet is what you don't want try for something like a potato stir fry - cook the potato the night before and cut it up, then just toss in a pan with some mushrooms and veggies and warm up (you can wrap it as well if you want or just eat straight up). Other quick options a bagel with cream cheese or an english muffin…

Luckily for you, there are many more aware people today and thus tons more food options. First, I would recommend checking out the grocery store for gluten free flour options - play around with recipes and you'll be able to replicate almost anything. Bob's Red Mill is a great brand to start with. Second,…

Here's my recipe, it's rich but oh so good! Mushroom Risotto: 1 cup chopped mushrooms (or to taste) 1/2 onion, chopped 2-3 cloves garlic, chopped 1 tbsp olive oil 3/4 cup white wine 4-5 cups chicken broth (can be cut with water if you desire) 1 cup risotto rice (arborio is what we use) 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese, grated salt…

I had strawberries and cocoa powder today (like hot chocolate powder so it was already sweet)... I also like dried fruit, blueberries, raspberries... My "classic" is vanilla extract, brown sugar, cinnamon, honey powder. Peanut butter doesn't work well for me (it's thick) but it is a good option for more protein. Also…

Thanks Stef! Might give this a shot over the weekend when I have time to bake!
-
Sounds good - what can you use instead of Bisquick? Regular flour? I guess this is just to thicken the beans a bit first? Might give it a shot if I can make a smaller version and/or freeze it. Thanks!

I like this - of course the flip side of how to serve and stay healthy as the host/hostess would be great too! Just to highlight one....take a small amount of everything, even "one bite" will give you enough to tell someone how good it is without ruining any careful eating plans...and fill your plate with the healthier…

One thing no one else hit on - don't buy "100 calorie" packs of anything - instead invest in a good food scale and weigh out your portions from bulk. Much cheaper and easy enough to package in bags, containers, etc! Also, stock up when there's a good deal on food (like chicken breasts) and then freeze them until ready to…

I agree that fat's not the issue - I love avocado, for example... but butter and shortening in high amounts? That's a problem... Sara - I agree! But sadly, people aren't able to understand the subtle marketing that goes on and thus they "trust" what they are told! Wyoruby - pumpkin would be great this time of year! An…

Gail - I did think about that while making it! Now that I've had some, I'm ready to experiment and I'll add that to the list of things to try. There's only 4 responses to the soup and 1 to the salad...has anyone else tried this??? Please post your thoughts so we can make these recipes great and see all the variety people…

Just made the soup tonight for lunch on Mon. & Tues. It was really easy and I think I'll try the recipe again with various adaptations (Such as some yogurt instead of all cream cheese) I halved the recipe since DH won't eat it. I did use 1 c vegetable broth and 1 c chicken broth and low fat cream cheese. Also, I added 1…

We made the chicken & zucchini for dinner the other night. The chicken was a bit dry, but adding honey as a sauce to dip in made it better! The zucchini (& onions & mushrooms for DH) we did in tempura batter instead and they were very good, but of course fried. Next time we might try larger strips of chicken so they won't…

The salsa sounds interesting - I don't think we'll be making it though, since I don't like mango and DH doesn't like black beans ;-) But thanks for the idea, it would be a great fall transition food!

I made the couscous dish (sort of) two nights ago...or DH made it :-) We used pearl ( Israeli) couscous, which is larger and more like pasta. We used pork as the meat and I did zucchini and yellow squash as the veggies. The meal was similar to our regular ones but it was good to have an excuse to use our new couscous!

We just made an adaptation on this for dinner... Used chicken as the meat and corn, mushrooms, onions, tomato as the veggies... no salsa since we didn't have any, and no spices since DH gets sick with them. We did use La Tortilla though ;-) But thanks for the idea, it's nice to not have to think too hard about the menu for…

wow, the soup sounds pretty good - and I love creamy potato soup!! A few questions: 1. can I add other stuff? (celery, carrots, etc) and when would I add them (with potato?) 2. Does this soup freeze? DH won't eat soup, but if I can freeze it, that would be great for quick lunches... 3. I don't do well with "cups" of stuff…

Haha ... I eat them since the seed is full of fiber - they are good all the way!

Making these this week! Yay - sorry I'm a week behind :-(
-
I like nori -I have some prepackaged at 10 calories a pack for 10 pieces in the pack...they are teriyaki flavored and really good. Plus, if you do splurge and eat the whole bag, it's still 100 calories or less!!!! I got them from Whole Foods...

fiber, protein, potassium... so the banana idea is good, maybe dipped in pb with flax seeds? Or a scrambled egg with cheese and veggies... or dark chocolate piece (just one) or a sweet potato cut up and baked
-
I like chicken & apple sausage - it's a brat type... I do have to make sure it's nitrate free - in CO that's not too hard though! For specific dishes, I love a spicy chorizo type....and italian sausage is a must with a good cheese platter ;-)
-
wow both of these sound great, I already have the ingredients, and my DH might actually eat them! SCORE! I'll try and work these in soon - once the chicken thaws ;-)

Breakfast: make an omelet with veggies, not ham and cheese. Go to less sugary cereal and don't pour too much. Avoid the bagels, muffins, etc - you want protein so go for a yogurt and top with fresh fruit. Avoid anything with added oil (ie, stirfry in the wok)...try and stick with the salad bar for lunch, making sure to add…

Try dal or lentil soup... also ask for it made healthier ;-) don't drink the chai, stick with water

I have a picky husband as well - with only two dishes a week though, I make twice the food (For example, last night he had plain baked chicken and I had the recipe from week two)....it's not toooo much extra work and you get to try the fun foods! You can make them later than during the week - but do post once you do so we…

I made the stuffed chicken last night. I did use goat cheese (local) and sun dried "tomato tapenade" (which was basically paste with spices). I added some lemon pepper, dried herbs, and baked for only 20 minutes. I served with pan cooked brussel sprouts and wax beans as well as quiona. Very good meal, very very filling and…

I absolutely weigh, just make sure, as mentioned, that you are careful to whether it is uncooked or cooked...meat looses weight when cooked, pasta gains...check the calories and see which it applies to. I wish MFP had more weight options on the list, and the ones it has are very different, so whenever possible, use the…
