You finished! That's great. I did the C25K program a few months ago...and I was discouraged several times along they way...I even sprained my ankle at one point and had to take 3 weeks off in the middle. But I finished. I completed my first 5k about 2 months ago and am starting to up my running time. I have good days still…

Oh. On the diet question. I haven't really changed. I gave up diet soda this week too. I was drinking way too much. So, I've just been drinking water and crystal lite.

That IS reassuring. To answer the questions. I have been doing 1 rest day a week, and 1 day where I walk instead of run. After reading a bunch here this morning, I'm planning on having 2 rest days. I do my strength training and cardio on the same day, I've JUST started the strength training, but I'm using the machines at…

Thanks. I don't worry about it too much, but it would sure be nice to actually be in a healthy weight range as an adult...someday. :D

I totally agree. Once I did the C25K, it really helped get my food thoughts/cravings under control. Also, it just takes some time.

I don't worry about the total calories, but use my cheat days to enjoy something that isn't part of my usual routine - thin crust pizza, or baked potato with steak instead of brocolli, or frozen yogurt with toppings. I think it helps me from "cheating" everyday, and gives me something to look forward to. I also don't have…

I wonder if you have foods that are "off limits"? I don't really, but I choose when to have them. For example, I wouldn't eat a carb heavy meal on a rest from exercise day. I'd wait until the next cardio day. Generally, it's just not worth it to me to expend the calories on those items. It takes a while. Be patient with…

After 2 1/2 weeks resting a sprained ankle, I completed Week 4, Day 1 (again!). I'm so glad I got to start where I left off! I thought I'd have to start over, but I didn't. I'm SO relieved and happy!!!

I live in a really dinky town. No pools for about 1.5 hours or gym. lol. We have to do "old school" exercise here! We DO have a couple of treadmills employees donated at work, but that's all I've got. :-) Luckily, I think I will be able to start exercising again on Tuesday. Ankle feeling better. Thanks though!

I still pick up clothes that are too big for me, also. I am a size 10 now and still question whether they will fit every single time I take them out of the closet...and am still pleasantly surprised every time they do! Great job!

Thanks for the group Amy! I sprained my ankle (for the third time) on Monday, so I've been having to rest it with no exercise, which, frankly, scares the beejeesus out of me! I readjusted my calories to compensate...so I'm eating about 1250. So far, I've gained 0.6 in a week, so I'm not complaining. Frustrated a bit, but…

Thanks so much! Sounds like great advice from someone who's been there. :-)

I think I doomed myself here. Lol. I was WALKING a couple days ago and re-sprained my ankle...it's a pretty mild sprain, so I'm wearing a brace and will take a couple weeks off depending on how I feel. Then, I'll jump back in. Any thoughts on how long I should take off? This ankle has been sprained 3 times now. The first…

Thanks for the support! I ran week 4, day 3 yesterday, on the treadmill again....and it was great again. :) I think I'm going to stick with the treadmill to build my endurance and then start incorporating outside runs again. My outside route is very hilly and the whole thing is an incline...so maybe it's just a bit too…

Disappointed. After my highly successful day the other day, I thought I'd have it made today. I ran outside again instead of the treadmill and I couldn't quite finish the last part. I had to stop two minutes short. I had a really hard time breathing. :-( I wish I knew what the factor was...the cold air? the terrain vs. the…

Thanks! It was actually *gasp* fun! I couldn't believe it. :)

I just completed Week 4, Day 1! It was the easiest one yet, I can't believe it. It was the first one that I've done on the treadmill and I was not looking forward to it, but it was great. I'm wondering if I found it so much easier to breathe, etc. because of the treadmill instead of outdoors or another factor?

I totally agree with this....there's a thread for those trying to lose the last ten pounds that you might find helpful. Since joining that thread, I upped my calories from 1200 to 1350-1425 or so and have started dropping again. It was VERY scary to start, but is working.

I know it can be frustrating, but does knowing the actual number matter? I'm legitimately asking. Wouldn't the measurement be whether or not you feel like you've "lost the flab" when you look in the mirror? That being said, it sounds like 21%. I've always heard calipers are not as accurate. Also - you look fabulous.

I entered my weight on the spreadsheet, which shows a net zero change. However, I usually have one "free" day a week...I don't go nuts, but I DO eat treats like pizza, ice cream or baked potato, etc. This week I had two planned free days...so I actually went up 2.2 and lost it again. I really think the eating extra…

Dawn, Thanks so much for the posts - those are great! I've been trying to improve my breathing as I tend to get a side stitch and i see it's from breathing too shallow. It's been a lot better than I expected. I finished Week 3, Day 1 today - Ran 3 minutes at a time. I really didn't think I'd be able to, but it was a lot…

Akosky - To break my last plateau, I had to reduce sweets and carbs. I save them for one free food day a week. That was about 12 pounds ago for me. The longer I work at this, the more I think everyone is just different and you have to keep trying to see what works for you. My family has a lot of diabetes, so I'm guessing…

Update - Since upping my calories (eating some exercise calories back) this week, by about 100-200 per day I've lost 2.6. Full disclosure, I also started the Couch to 5k last week, so that may be contributing. I'm just not sure. I'm still tracking that activity like walking because my jog is sooooo slow and it only totals…

I'm so curious to see how the upping of calories works. I've been plateaued for about a week. As of this morning, I have 9 pounds to my initial goal (145 - first time healthy) and then I will re-evaluate. Guessing I will probably end up shooting for 135 - midpoint of healthy weight range for me. I've lost 56 pounds…

I did the first day yesterday! So glad I ran across this thread. It was easier than I had anticipated also!

MFP recommends 1200 calories for me also. I have been on that for months and have been satisfied. I just make sure I eat a lot fiber to stay full. It really is amazing how soon you get used to eating those calories. I listen to my body, and have found that I'm not gettting really hungry on 1200 calories. I have my weight…

The thing that helped me the most with this was someone explaining to me how rude they thought it was. That I was basically calling them a liar. So I practiced biting my tongue and it got a bit easier. Created by MyFitnessPal.com - Free Calorie Counter

I'm a sweet addict too. My weight had plateued until I cut sweets six days a week and allow myself to have a dessert one day a week. I'm eating the same amount of calories - just not using my calories for sweets. That kick started my metabolism again and now I'm losing again. Personally, I tried the reduced-fat desserts…
