  • Most wines are listed in MFP. I log them in just like food. I have never had a wine over 150 calories (unless I go with 2 or 3 glasses). A chocolate eclair is way more than that and for me usually eaten much quicker. I like to savor wine. The biggest kicker may be what one enjoys with the wine. For me that is cheese or…
  • No weight lost - No weight gained. Numbers for the week: Calories eaten 11001 - Exercise calories 3536 = Total calories 7465 Calories I could have had 8400 - Total calories = Calories under 935 Total miles = 27.4 Total squats = 300 Total jumping jacks minutes = 25 Total plank minutes = 8.5 Total ab minutes = 197 (I do the…
  • I finally made it to 2 minutes on the plank today. The secret is to get a song in your head and not stop until the song is done. My oven timer when off before I was fatigued today. It was great. As for names for the November Challenge: I like "Shaping up for the Holidays" or something to do with the approaching end of the…
  • I vote we keep going and losing. I have trouble joining team challenges because I get frustrated when people drop out. This individual challenge is perfect for me.
  • I know what you mean. I could never buy high boots. The zipper ones didn't even zip. Now as I age, my calves are thinner, but your are right, the muscle is gone.
  • This is great. I am so proud of you for sticking with it and actually completing the 5K. I am a great walker, but not so good runner. I think I will use you as an inspiration.
  • I can't wait to hear what more knowledgeable people say. I keep wondering if the expense is worth it.
  • Sexy will come back. The nice part about menopause is the freedom you have after everything is settled. No worries about birth control.
  • 5' 3-1/2, female, age 55, weight, thanks to MFP is 120 pounds. I started the program in June 2011 and have lost 17 pounds.
  • I think it it that time of year. The seasons are changing and no one feels like working too hard. I know for me my motivation is plain snarky. I have to go for my annual physical in November and I want to look good on paper. I also want to have people think I look good and to know that they are thinking that. The evil part…
  • After reading all the recent posts, I am beginning to think that menopause like most other health issues is the luck of genetics. I am one of the lucky ones. I think my hormone levels are intact. I have not had them tested in 5 or 6 years. I am 55 and post menopausal for about 5 years. I had night sweats, but few hot…
  • It must be the challenge ;) I have been consistently in green numbers throughout my stay at MFP. This week the challenge is to avoid red and I have had a red number or two each day. I realize I have been out to eat most of those days - it is a killer. I keep trying to exercise to keep the total calories green. I have…
  • It sounds like many of us have one type of bug or another. I wish you all well. The last few days, I have been able to get in 3 miles of walking and about 75 arm curls and squats. I have also done the jumping jacks. For my ab work I do between 40-50 minutes of Hip Hop Abs. I will report a total at the end of the week. Oh,…
  • Here is a video that I have used for this stretch. It may help depending on the severity of your pain. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yGBAcwbZqf4
  • Thank you so much for the additional ab exercises. These will help extend my exercise ideas.
  • A few red numbers for me yesterday, but I will make up for them today. I was "forced" to go to a three course dinner and wine party last evening. The food was fabulous, the wine's okay, and the entertainment, a magician of all things, was really entertaining (much to my surprise). I hope to catch up on all your posts today…
  • Regarding additional ab exercises. Remember the bicycles you used to do in gym class. These are great ab exercises. Also planks are good. A simple ab strengthener is to just stand, make sure you tuck your pelvis under and tighten your stomach muscles. Hold until tired, relax, and repeat.
  • Thanks for posting. I am adding a poem that we used last month and someone asked for an encore reading. It fits for where we are: Halfway Not empty, not full, Not beginning, not ending, Not entering, not exiting. Halfway A state of limbo, A crossroads, A dare. Halfway A testament to accomplishment, A pause for reflection,…
  • I have completed over 320 minutes of cardio and 60 minutes of strength exercises including the mini challenges. I have posted a recipe and enjoyed reading and recreating some of the listed recipes. I walk to work; so the parking thing was not a concern. I did go out to dinner with the family one day this week. I posted my…
  • I'm doing tricep dips for another challenge today, but I will promise to not pasta for a week. As to white flour. i have to make a birthday cake for a friend; so I may have to nibble at that. Already did 3.5+ miles this am on the elliptical. I had to do this because it was wat to windy and rainy to walk to work (my usual…
  • I'll go for the whole enchilada today. This is actually one of my favorite exercises. I love the burn from it.
  • Squats done. As for additional challenges, some of my faves are calf raises (can be done anywhere) and any kind of stretching. I do enough cardio each week, but I do neglect to stretch sufficiently. This is a site I have been trying to use and motivate myself with; it shows stretching exercises for each part of the body.…
  • I did the 100 push-ups that I set out to do. Could I have done more? We'll see next time. When I get stuck in the numbers game, I tend to fixate and stop at that number.
  • On my honor, I promise to join you in doing 100 squats today. I will do them will diligence and try to make each one count. Seriously, a great challenge for today.
  • Being from Wisconsin, I have to say Milk is not bad for you. Just make sure you are balancing out the calories with all the other nutrients that you need.
  • I'm going to try. I think I have found out that 1/2 of your challenges are all I can do reasonably. So I am aiming for 100. I am curious as to what kind of physical shape one has to be in to complete these challenges on a regular basis. I though I was fit, but I guess I am just wimpy.
  • The not eating non-packed food almost got me yesterday. I went to work with my lunch ready for the day, but got told I was staying to 8:00. Good thing I had almonds and popcorn. I waited until I got home to eat rather than ordering in. I am so going to spend Wednesday (my weekend) copying all these wonderful recipes. I…
  • Thanks for all the great recipes so far. Here is my contribution; it reflects all the great farmer's markets we have right now. Wisconsin Green Beans 1 lb green beans - french cut 1 clove garlic 1 cup cranberries 1 can pearl onions Seasoning (your choice) Blanch the beans. Drain. Chop and Saute the garlic clove. (Hint, I…
