I would rather not have anything dropped on my head, thank you.

Thank you for the reply. I think I need to take some current pictures and measurements and refer back to them as the weeks go by. I have done my best to avoid the camera, it seems, as I don't really have many pictures of me from the past few years. Yes, I know how I look should be more important to me than the number on…

I feel obligated to mention that you should always be careful about what might have been sprayed on plants in your or neighbors' yards.

To be fair, I think my best performance would probably be on my motorcycle.

Thank you for clarifying. Your link provides information that is very helpful. I am not convinced either way, though training at low intensities as part of increasing aerobic base seems beneficial either way, so I'm not sure the zones should simply be ignored. Edit: Yes, sorry for calling it out like that; I understand…

Source? I call ignorance or troll on your part. You are not being helpful at all.

This is somewhat true, but not quite that simple. Essentially, once your heart rate is higher than your aerobic base, you are no longer burning the "best" fuel mixture of fat:carbs. You are burning carbs and fats either way, but at higher heart rates you are burning less efficiently if your goal is fat loss. However, you…

No, I was trying to keep it simple since it appears that this poster wanted a very basic answer and then was told immediately that it was all a myth. We could get down in deep in the details if you really wanted, but you are incredibly far off in your belief that this "zone" is only important to the two specific groups you…

The fat-burning zone is not a myth at all. If you actually read the article linked above, you will see that the above poster is only half-right. The fat-burning zone just means that you burn a higher percentage of fat within the calories that you burn compared to what you would burn at other heart rates. All this means is…

I love that the person on the screen in the background appears to be looking over at you in shock! edit: banana beat me to it!

LOL. Thanks! I got a kick out of this conversation.

First of all, congratulations. Secondly, I normally don't comment on things like this, but you should concede that you meant conceited.

Awesome job!

This may or may not apply to you, but seems true for me: I recently read a very long post on some running forum about lactate threshold and why some people never seem to get comfortable running. Essentially, many people (myself included, and numbers proved it during recent metabolic testing) have a low anaerobic threshold.…

I started a little (a lot) heavier than you, but this is great inspiration. Now I also have more evidence that video games are good for you!

Nice Job! Congrats!

I understand your point, but I think the point others are making is that there are always risks no matter what you are discussing. It would be fantastic if we could avoid all of the air pollution, but we need to breathe in order to live. It would be nice if all water was safe, but people risk it because it is required to…

Please don't take this seriously, but: Are all of your ancestors still alive then?

I've known for a while that my brain was without hope.

If we are going that route, tilapia and catfish may not be healthy for us according to some recent research. The cons may outweigh the pros nutritionally. If one is worried about parasites, chicken probably isn't all that safe compared to fish, though I would want to look for some research in this area. For the record, I…

I got it done at the university here. They were really nice and set up the plan for me to follow. Now I have to commit to it, but I am sufficiently motivated, so it should not be a problem. I do need to eat more, though, so I changed my activity level on here to make it more closely match what I needed. Then I manually…

Thanks. That's interesting. I thought the exercise plan was part of what you got when you do the testing. Maybe only some places do that part? I did it at a state university.

Michael, A couple things for you: I would consider a second opinion based on what your doctor recommended. Unless you have a diagnosed medical problem that makes you unable to control your weight, I think his/her recommendation was way too low. Secondly, please start taking just a 30 minute walk each morning or night…

Nice, keep it up!

All of that may be true, but the fact that you are in good health and use something does not actually mean that it is good for you. You could have said the same thing about Big Macs if you wanted, or about cigarettes, etc. Things are not good or bad for you based on how healthy you are when trying something. See what the…
-
You probably would have to go to the doctor to compare, but it doesn't really matter. Just use the same one consistently and measure your loss based on that. It won't make much of a difference in the long run, because it is about how you look anyway, right?

I ate there a couple weeks ago when I was in D.C. I just had one burger and water, but everyone needs a cheat meal now and then.

Do you watch your fat intake? I very rarely exceed my allowance for fat. Sodium is more often the problem for me, so that is what I would be watching, but that still wouldn't make me miss something I love like that entirely. Chorizo does have redeeming qualities; it isn't like you asked if you could eat a stick of butter!…

How much weight is that difference? That is an incredible change. Would love to make that kind of progress in a month.
