  • I got annoyed that I had written the equations and hadn't solved, and it is pretty easy to simplify my equations and get what you see above. Okay, now I made myself confused, though. If you said it was a 3,4,5 triangle, then you would have 3^2 + 4^2 = 5^2, but if you took the square roots the way it looks in your…
  • Well, I don't really want to solve it all, but if I had to, I would look at the following: You know BAC is a right triangle. AD^2 + AE^2 = DE^2 (2AD)^2 + (2AE)^2 = FG^2 = 22^2 = 484 (3AD)^2 + (3AE)^2 = BC^2 I think that should get you there, because you can just plug in a variable to represent the line segments AD and AE,…
  • Maybe I will watch V for Vendetta tonight.
  • Man, I hope so. Nothing like Death Valley at night, but then again, Alabama looks rock solid. We need ZMech to step up.
  • Geaux Tigers!
  • This is the most fun thread topic I've seen. I guess that's because I've been caught with my eyes open. Oops! One time when my wife and I were dating, we were kissing and she opened her eyes while mine were open. She was like, why are your eyes open? Do you always do that? I honestly never noticed, but now I catch myself…
  • Please be careful about going out in this area again. You never know what is going on. Make sure you report anything suspicious to police, because while it might not seem like a big deal, it could easily turn into one. It is their job to find out, not yours.
  • That is one of the funniest pictures I have seen! The only thing I would say differently is that foot placement can and will vary based on several factors about your body. I personally have a slightly wider stance than shoulder width and point my toes slightly outward with my knees following that line.

  • Honestly, you may go a really long time without ever needing a cut if you are going to be eating at TDEE and lifting. The more muscle you build, the more calories you will burn all the time, and since you are already close to goal weight, I would say forget about the number and give your body plenty of fuel to build that…
  • I would do the full reset, but it's really up to you. It might work for you without it, since everyone is different, but I personally don't think it's going to hurt anything to do the reset even if it wasn't absolutely necessary for you.
  • I say if you can handle it, go for it. If you know you want to get to TDEE, would you rather add several weeks to that? In the long run, it's a short time, but if you can handle it emotionally and mentally, I think it's worth it. I wish I would have jumped in instead of testing the water.
  • I personally wish I had just done the reset right away, but everyone is different. I obviously couldn't listen to my own advice, but think about this: If you start with a cut and it is not working, you will have to make the emotional decision whether to cut more or do a full reset. If you are prepared to up now, why not…
  • I decided yesterday that I need the full reset. I wish I would have jumped in from the beginning, but it sounded like too much for me, and I was just hoping that a different number would work. I am a guy with a measured bmr of just over 2150 calories. I increased from 1600 before exercise calories to 2400 plus exercise…
  • Which one do you use? I don't see that you posted it, but might have just missed it?
  • I'm a guy, too. It's not that bad, just don't open the topics that say TOM. It took me a couple times to remember what that meant, but now I've got it figured out. Also, you can work your way up to eating more, but yes, most likely you will be eating way more than 1700 calories. I am doing things a little bit differently,…
  • Great to hear!
  • I get what you are saying, but I disagree. If you lift for several years with machines, you will still likely have poor form when you try free weights. The only way to truly develop proper form is to do it with small weights and receive appropriate feedback on form, which I advocated.
  • I will address a few of your questions, as I have been researching some of these questions for myself and my wife. First off, you should literally be working with an empty bar of 45 pounds to make sure you have proper form and get your muscles used to the movement. You can increase 10 pounds each session (spaced days…
  • Quick answer: It depends on your definition of successful, but YES! You should be lifting heavy.
  • I am sure someone with more knowledge/experience will come along with better advice, but I would say try to drink a lot more water, first of all. Secondly, you increased calories in but you also increased calories out. Part of what Kiki and Lucia are recommending is less of the cardio type work, which you actually…
  • I have gained 4 or 5 after a tough workout or two.
  • 4-10 weeks. Okay, that doesn't sound terrible in the big scheme of things. This community is wonderful, but I wish someone I knew were going through this as well that could work out with me.
  • I am nervous about this, too, but it clearly works for others, so stay confident and on course. I am up 6 or 7 pounds now in the last 3 weeks, but hopefully that will reverse soon. I have been lifting 3 times a week for the last 3 weeks along with a cardio plan I was given when I did the New Leaf Metabolic Testing. I am…
  • I had two entrees: a bowl of gumbo with a cornbread muffin as well as a risotto with garlic bread. I estimated that I ate about 1600 calories for lunch.
  • Yes, keep doing your best and remember that many people have not taken the steps toward fitness and health that you have. I was explaining to a friend just last night that while machines are not as good as free weights for most, there are definitely times that free weights are not the best option. This is not the…
  • I am genuinely concerned for the safety and wellbeing of those that are having to clean the bar and push it up into "squat position." Is there seriously no squat rack at your gym? In all seriousness, I would not remain a member at a gym that did not fit the basic requirements of my workout. I am assuming squat is one of…
  • And here, I was thinking the exact opposite. I am wondering if you are not eating enough, but we don't know unless you show us your diary or let us know exactly what you are netting and your stats.
  • My BMR is slightly higher than yours (tested) and yet I am 2 inches shorter and just over 20 pounds smaller than you with a higher bodyfat %. The only way to really know I guess is to get it tested. I have no idea if 2400 could be right, though it does sound like a lot.

  • To be fair, the same volume of muscle does weigh more than the same volume of fat. It bothers me when people try to say muscle does not weigh more than fat, because it does from the reference point from which most people approach the subject. If you don't use an appropriate frame of reference, you can make pretty much any…
