  • A couple of things can be wrong. You might have a mild bout of depression. This can cause stress levels to rise and generate the "hopeless" feelings. Or, you could be just stressed. I'm not sure about acids, but stress is a hormonal response and such responses cause metabolic changes. Exercise will help with stress. It…
  • It's good to think of this as a lifestyle change and not just a "diet." You are spending this time learning to eat with a mind towards your health. These lessons you can take with you. It isn't easy, but you can do it!

  • "I read the link...and I don't think that there is anything ground breaking there. " I'm sure that you were able to understand that it is the ratio, not the total intake that is important. If you try to intake 3000 mg of K+ everyday, you will find yourself having a hard time not eating the same thing all the time. What you…
  • Congratulation on your previous weight loss. You are going to do great here!
  • Yeah, I think there is a basic level of decency that needs to be acknowledged (IE Don't be naked), but I think beyond that it is irrelevant because people are there to get into shape and not worry about other people's body image issues interfering with their progress. However, I think it's okay to realize that people will…
  • The reason you feel less "winded" is because your heart is healthier and more efficient at moving oxygen to your muscles. You get more oxygen / breath than you did before. You burn the same calories roughly, and you can actually be burning more because lean muscle uses fatty acids for resting metabolism. This is why…
  • Don't weigh yourself everyday. You can add and lose lbs daily that make no sense. Water retention due to salt intake, things you ate recently and other factors can influence daily weight. Don't weigh yourself more than say once a week.
  • Make sure your real activity level is set and that you have all your information accurate. People generally over estimate their "base level" activity. If you are a female and eating 400 calories less than your goal, then you are eating right around 1200 calories. If you gain weight while eating 1200 calories, then you need…
  • While I prefer not to eat out, it is not always avoidable. I keep my Android phone with me and just order what will work for me. It also seems the you would be better off going in getting what you wanted, when you originally craved it, and then eating some of it and saving the rest for later. I bring home left overs…

  • This is a great place to start looking!! It really is a good step towards developing new lifestyle habits that translate into a thinner and more healthy you. For me, it was important to shed the diet mentality and to build a foundation of knowledge and experience that rewards me with better choices. Good luck!!
  • Welcome back. It really does help to interact with other people who can share ideas and provide empathy!
  • You are free to subscribe to any particular diet theory that you wish, but the Atkins Diet is based on unsupported premises. 2000 calories if good fat = 2000 calories of carbs. Your brain is an obligate glucose user. This means that it can only metabolize glucose (carbohydrate). If you do not fulfill the brain's needs, you…

  • I'm only here for a 20 lbs loss, but I am excited to watch your success!
  • "Stalling" can happen for a lot of reasons, but I wouldn't worry about it. If you aren't "cheating" then you will be fine. When I previously lost almost 100 lbs, I stalled a lot. Water retention can be an issue, but you could also have built muscle which is heavier than fat. Double check that your salt intake didn't take a…
  • Doesn't matter to your body all that much unless one of these is in deficit. Calories are the most important thing in this decision because your body will store excess calories (fat or sugar) as fat. If you are eating less calories than you burn, you will not. This doesn't take into account possible metabolic issues such…
  • Welcome :)
  • I wouldn't worry about it. Sugar, fat and protein is all used for what is needed and the rest stored (this is basically true and good enough for your question). Low calorie has been shown in study after study to benefit health and length of life. If your sugar comes from fruit and you are within your calorie limit, then…
  • I agree with countrymom1. I weigh everyday; however if you weigh only once a week, I would do so when you get back.
