  • I net less than 1200 calories a day and have been doing that for quite a while. I find it hard, psychologically speaking, to stop doing it. I can't stop. But all the while, I've been packing on body fat. I've gained weight and 2 clothing sizes. It's not muscle and it's not water. It's fat. I don't know what to do.
  • Looking over my food diary, probably for several years. In response to some of the others: It has to be fat, because my clothes are tighter. I also changed my scale's batteries a couple of months ago. Those batteries are usually good for 9-12 months. I have a food scale and weigh everything. ED may be a possibility, but I…
  • And added nothing but FLAB. If I'd added 10 lbs of muscle, that'd be one thing...but don't you think it's a bit strange that I've added 10 lbs of FAT in less than a month without upping my calories or cutting my exercise?
  • Haven't had sex since July 2013. So no, I'm not pregnant.
  • I plan to have my hormones and thyroid checked again as soon as I have insurance again. Right now, I don't. I really want to recomp as I'm disgusted with how jiggly I'm getting. No possibility I'm pregnant. I don't even have periods anymore. I took the pill for years, allowing myself only 3-4 periods a year (doc said it…
  • The exact same thing is happening to me....netting under BMR and gaining weight. Did you ever figure out what's going on with you?
  • I work out at the gym at Belt Line and Coit :-D
  • How could it possibly be due to water retention?
  • Glad to know I'm not the only one though I am sorry this is happening to you too! If you ever find a fix, let me know...I will do the same!
  • Thank you for your detailed response Carrie! I don't eat a lot of junk food, and never any white bread, pasta, rice, etc. I don't eat candy either, or protein bars...which are essentially candy anyway! I work out 5x a week and try to sleep a decent amout but I usually never get more than 5.5-6 hrs a night. That's better…
  • Nope. Doc said I was normal and I should eat less.
  • The gain has been steady for a year and a half. Tiny increments, but a steady upward trend. I work out 5 days a week for about 60 mins, some days 70-80.
  • I found the report and will quote exactly what it says...these were collected in December 2012 and I had had a cold the week before. T3, Free 2.2 (abn) pg/mL Range: 2.3/4.2 pg/mL T4, Free 1.0 ng/dL Range: 0.8-1.8 ng/dL TSH 1.72 mIU/L (no range given) FSH 4.6 mIU/mL (no range given) Prolactin 5.9 ng/mL (no range given)…
  • Nope, not yet; haven't been able to find an OB/GYN who can see me before July. Apparently there's a baby explosion in this part of Texas. :-(
  • That's what I'm actually eating. I'm netting less than that because of my TDEE.
  • Yay another Richardsonian! Where do you work out?
  • Thanks; I already had mine done last month at Cooper.
  • To the best of my knowledge, I am. I underestimate my TDEE by using the 'sedentary' setting on MFP and only logging exercise. I do not log time spent sitting at my desk, for example. I'm not insisting that I have a thyroid disorder, either. I suspected I might, so I had my thyroid checked by two different doctors. It came…
  • I can't find an endocrinologist in Dallas who will see me without a formal diagnosis of some metabolic disorder, which I don't have. If anyone knows of an endocrinologist who will see me, that would be great. I'll call them immediately.
  • I did...twice.
  • The doctor did not order a fasting blood glucose test. They tested my blood glucose along with lots of other things within 2-3 hours of me eating, and it came in at 80.
  • I already did, twice in 2012. They ran all sorts of tests looking for all sorts of things. I was told that my thyroid function was "low normal" and my LFTs were elevated but I don't have hepatitis. In one case the doctor threw her hands up and said "I don't know what to tell you. Try eating less." The other, the doctor…
  • Because I log my exercise and it nets out from my overall calories for the day.
  • 5'6" 126 Female 37 Desk job, mostly sedentary on weekdays but I hit the gym hard 5x a week. On weekends I'm running errands, cooking, doing laundry, volunteering, etc. Nothing horribly strenuous but I'm not on my butt all day either.
  • And the vicious cycle continues. I'm not miscalculating it. I measure everything on a food scale. Unless my scale is lying to me, I don't see how I could possibly be miscalculating it. Basically here's what happens...I tell people what the situation is and one of the following happens: 1.) I'm accused of lying about my…
  • You're right, I'm not eating my exercise calories back. How could that be causing me to gain weight, though? I don't have an abnormally slow metabolism; the RD said it was right where it should be for a woman my age and size.
  • What I'm doing right now is BMR set to sedentary and I'm only logging workouts. My BMR at sedentary on MFP is the same number as my RMR: 1340. I then add my exercise calories, using the MFP database figures. I usually burn 300-500 calories/per workout according to those figures. I have MFP set to lose .5 lbs a week and it…
  • Last time I had bloodwork done everything came back normal. I don't know how IR would show up on a full metabolic panel, but there was nothing there that was abnormal.
  • The problem is I'm gaining weight netting under my RMR, just like I said before. My RMR is not theoretical...I had it properly tested at a clinic by one of those machines that you breathe into for a good 10 minutes.
  • Don't need to set money aside for it, I can buy one today. I'd like some recommendations. I googled around on them over the weekend but couldn't find one that was consistently highly rated.
