  • I use a 3/1 ratio of plain Greek yougurt to full fat mayo (the 'lite' version is full of sodium and sugar), and use a combo of dry mustard, garlic pepper, onion powder and djon mustard to give it a good flavour. I always check and use salt free granulated spices as the extra salt can cause bloating. For a dozen eggs I use…

  • Vegan protein powder mixed with water or almond milk; . brown rice and black beans make a good base for veggie burgers. Whole foods and Trader Joe's have soy yougurts without added sugar, or you can get a yougurt starter and make your own so you control the kind and amount of sugar in it.
  • I am no longer diabetic, but my RD suggested this site: http://www.the-gi-diet.org/lowgifoods/ to use as a guide for low GI foods, and I've found it very helpful. Beans and lentils are high in protein, tasty, and won't spike you. I especially love canellini beans (white kidney beans)cooked with kale, onions, garlic and a…
  • You're probably getting liquid from the cheese as well as the meat. I use lean turkey, ground flax and oat bran in equal parts instead of bread crumbs, granulated garlic and onion (the onion soup mix has a ton of salt in it), minced onion and a tablespoon of tomato paste thinned out with salt free vegetable broth as catsup…
  • I put a tablespoon in my oatmeal, along with a tablespoon of cinnamon to keep my blood sugar stable until lunch; no carb dip mid morning. I also add 4 tablespoons to all my muffin recipes to boost the fiber content. I had high blood pressure, and was diagnosed with insulin resistant diabetes and high cholesterol in May.…
  • I've lost 58 pounds so far, and haven't noticed a lot of wrinkling, but I didn't have many before I started as I've never smoked and don't tan. I've been losing about a pound a week, but I do have plateaus where I lose inches and then the weight drops after a couple weeks. I think its more important to put good quality…
  • I put three bags of decaff and three regular in the bottom of my coffee maker and run the water through it to make a pot that I drink all afternoon. I like the taste of green tea, and maybe because I'm Irish, drinking hot tea in hot weather doesn't bother me. I do also make iced green tea. I take mine with a touch of…

  • Born/raised in Cuyahoga Falls, live in Hilltop USA for the last 27 years (For non Columbusites that's a large area on the west side).
  • Definitely report him in writing. I had something similar years ago whilst using a weight machine. I was told the 'leg warmer brigade was downstairs' and to move my fat *kitten* so he could have the machine. I told him off loudly, telling him I had three more sets of reps and rudeness wasn't a compensation for a tiny penis.
  • I finally (after 27 years of trying) was able to give blood Tuesday for the first time. The only thing the tech suggested was drink a bit more water. I've been aneamic for years, so the night before I had a very lean hamburger and a huge kale and spinach salad for dinner. I didn't eat the crap they had on offer as I no…
  • I track it as I was diabetic and had high blood pressure. I do use small amounts to cook some things, but mostly I use the herbs I keep growing on my windowsill. I also make my own stocks and broths and buy very little prepared foods to cut down on the amount we eat.
  • Click on the 'exercise' tab. Click on the 'cardio' button, search for 'pilates'(correct spelling) and enter your time spent. :)
  • I scored two pairs of jeans for a whopping $7 yesterday at the Salvation Army shop- size 14!!! I've dropped 5 sizes since June now :)
  • If you forget to soak them overnight, put a kettle of water on to boil. Thoroughly rinse the beans. Put a quartered onion, a few smashed cloves of garlic and a seeded quartered bell pepper in the bottom of a crock pot or in a large dutch oven, add the bean and the boiling water to cover and either cook them on low all day…
  • Half a cup (dry) oats cooked with a tablespoon each cinnamon and chia seed and served with a splash (1/4 cup) of almond milk.
  • I drink over a gallon of water a day, more if I've really worked out. I used to drink Diet Dr Pepper by the case, but now drink green tea or water throughout the day. If I have the calories I'll have a glass (or two) of red wine after dinner. I use almond milk on my oatmeal. Shifting to clear liquids over pop and away from…
  • Weekly must haves: Greek Youghurt, vanilla and plain (for use in place of mayo) Double fibre whole grain bread Kale Red Romaine Unsweetened almond milk Pantry items: Dried beans Puy and Red Egyptian lentils Pearled Barley CousCous Orzo Whole grain pasta (depending what's on sale) As to the rest I look to see what's on sale…
  • Its my electronic 'Jiminy Cricket'; seeing things in print allows me to make better decisions about not only what I eat, but what I buy at the store (love the 'scan' function on my phone). This is a lifestyle change, so I can totally see me logging daily so I don't backslide.
  • A good tip for using charity shops: Take your measurements before you go, and take a tape measure with you since even mens sizes vary from brand to brand. Find what you like on the rails and measure it to make sure it will fit you; of course you can slip on shirts and jackets in the shop, but trousers could be tricky!…
  • Have your doctor check you out; you could have a medical predisposition towards a low HDL. That said, exercise and eating foods high in Omega 3 will help.
  • I had another agent follow me through the office saying "no seriously, what are you taking to lose so much weight?" When I explained to her I've changed how I eat and reduced calories she accused me of having lap band since I've lost so much in 'such a short time'. I pointed out I started in June, so it hasn't been a…
  • I was also diabetic, and what jobie stated is very true. If you're not working with a RD I strongly recommend you do so. In fact make an appointment and print out your food log and take it with you. As of November I am no longer considered diabetic, but I still e-mail my RD and she helps me tweak my eating plan so I can…
  • I add them so when I'm looking through my recipes to plan meals it reminds me to make sure I have the herb/spice on hand or on the grocery list. I agree the few calories in them won't make or break my calorie count, but is has made me adjust both recipes and what I buy as many of the powdered/granulated spices are loaded…
  • I like it with a sprinkle of Herbs deProvence and garlic.
  • I log everyday, and since I can log from my phone I log after each meal so I know if I have to get a workout in so I can have what I planned, like today. I wanted to try a new pizza dough recipe, and have a glass of wine, so once I logged I knew I had to get on the elliptical.
  • Or just eat a Ghirardelli dark chocolate square- 55 calories and very satisfying.
  • I get it on the international food aisle at Kroger's; it should be with couscous, kasha and orzo. You can also buy it in bulk at Whole Foods but we don't have one really close and Kroger's is 5 minutes away.
  • You can buy a packet from Trader Joe's for $1.69. Like tofu it takes on flavours well. Unlike tofu, you don't have to press the liquid from it, but if you steam it for about 10 minutes it swells a bit and takes up marinades better. Slice it thinly and whisk taco seasonings in with about half a cup of water; put both in a…

  • Not now! I passed him by 2 pounds last week!
  • I'm donating 3-4 bags of clothes every 3 months or so; charity shops are the only way to go until I get to my goal. I simply can't see paying a ton of money, even on clearance, when I'm only going to wear the things for a few months. Come warmer weather I'm going to have to box up all my short sleeved tees and shirts as…
