MFP: Please, please, please don't 'fix' things that worked well!! A lot of us on here are 'scratch' cooks and don't use the foods/recipe sites. Please restore the ability to add/edit recipes on the recipe page!

Met John Denver when I was 13 and we became friends; through him I met Harry Chapin and Jimmy Buffett; I spoke with John 5 hours before he died in his new plane :( I miss him so to this day.

Portion sizes are much smaller, and even with a multi course meal you will be full but not stuffed. Get a carte viste and you can hop on and off the metro and buses all week. We stayed on the left bank and walked or took the metro and I came home 5 pounds lighter from all the walking. Musee d'Orsay is a must see.

I'm a child of the 50/60s; I found out the 'hard' way I'm severely allergic to mushrooms, beef liver (same enzyme as the mushrooms) and mildly allergic to berries and citrus (internal hives, whilst not deadly like the 'shrooms, are miserable). As a result I've become an avid label reader, and I've made my doctor do the…

I keep two 2 quart bale jars in my fridge, one filled with broccoli, one with cauliflower just so when I feel like munching, I grab a handful and eat without guilt. I actually don't eat salad dressing unless I make one, as I think the prepared ones taste greasy.

Oh, me too, love Swenson's!!! I go there every time I visit the siblings to get a double cheeseburger (no bun now that I'm wheat free) and their tater tots. Mum went to school with the original owners son, and we were sometimes rewarded to a dinner there as a much loved treat.

Tony- Any suggestions to reduce LDL?? I was diagnosed with type II diabetes in May 2011, and the lipid were bad. By November I'd taken my A1C to 5.7 my HDL was over 56 (it had been low) and my LDL was 104. Now I've beaten diabetes, but my LDL is 154!!! HDL and triglycerides are normal. I'm still wanting to lose 35 pounds.…

My hubby is 61, and I'm well over 50 and we can now walk a 4.5 mph pace and still chat. I ran track in high school (was a miler, relay and 440 runner) 40 years ago and was active and fit in to my late 30s. Then I had some serious upheavals life wise and became rather sedentary. I no linger run because of arthritis, but I…

Eat veggies? Save the peelings/stems/ scraps and once you have a full gallon size bag in the freezer, add to 8 quarts of water and make veggie broth; add herbs, pepper and spices as you like, but no salt. Use as a base for gravies and soups. Either can or freeze it. If you are alone/small family just wait until you have a…

I was at the grocery with our son in TN and the woman at the till thought he was my husband!! He was a bit flabbergasted and stammered out "um, no, I'm her son and we're both old enough to buy beer!" He'll be 35 in November so I felt good!

So long as I'm under calories and have eaten fairly healthily the wine makes no difference. In fact it helps a lot with my arthritis.

First bite of mushroom I ever took put me in hospital for 10 days; I was 10. I also get internal/external hives from citrus in general, and pineapple in particular, which suck because a lot of drug manufacturers use pineapple juice as a binder to make tablets. Found out that one the hard way too when an anitbiotic gave me…

Outerwear at charity shops ( I've found two with changing rooms, brilliant!) underclothes and shoes at Target or Meijers

I bought a size medium swimsuit last night

I eat oatmeal almost every day: Half a cup rolled oats, a table spoon each of ground cinnamon and chia seeds and 2 tablespoons ground flaxseed meal. I add the cinnamon and a tablespoon of coconut oil to the water first and then add the dry ingredients. Five minutes later breakfast is ready. Only 298 calories, but a…

Saute garlic, onion and peppers until just soft. Add 1 tablespoon Basalmic vinegar, stir. Add 2 cups torn rinsed kale to skillet, season with salt, pepper and a pinch of nutmeg, reduce heat and put on lid for 2-3 minutes. Once kale has wilted a bit use tongs to combine all ingredients and let steam with the lid on for…

I work mostly from home, so I do get a reaction at times when I pop in to the office. Lender person: "Are you losing the baby weight?" Me: "um no, our youngest was born in 1977, I'm just working on being healthy" :ohwell: Same dipwad later in the day: "You know if you lose too much weight your face will be really wrinkled…

Raised in 44223 (Summit County) now live in 43223 (C-bus)!

I will agree with the lactose intolerance- I've drunk milk my entire life with no effect, or so I thought. Once I switched to almond milk (which has more vitamin D btw) my chronic sniffles and growling tummy disappeared. I've also switched over to whole grains and eased up to 25-30 grams of fiber daily and I rarely pass…

There's absolutely nothing scary about the photos; I see a lovely young lady who's smart enough to work on her health whilst young enough to enjoy it! Keep up the brilliant work

I suss I have a literary genome  as when we cleared out Mum and Dad's home we ended up donating over 13,000 books to the local lending library! I mostly read non-fiction, histories and such, but I do love Arthurian tomes: Le Mort d'Arthur, The Mists of Avalon, The Last Enchantment to name but a few. Victor Hugo,…

I prefer unsweetened almond milk; I used to drink skim, but I have much less bloating/gas since switching to almond milk, and I like the taste better.

Gas was .27 when I started driving; I have a kid closing in on 40 (!) and I don't know how the hell that happened

I've lost 66 pounds the past 11 months, but I had a health diagnosis that demanded my full attention. That said, I made an appointment with a Registered Dietician, found I wasn't eating enough (!) and the foods I really love are okay to eat. I did make the decision to cut out all processed foods due to fructose and sodium…

Wash and sort through dried beans (sometimes small pebbles are in the bag). I use my Mum's way of cooking beans, perfect for a busy life. Cover with boiling water and add a heavy pinch of ground ginger.(Ginger takes out some of the gasiness from the beans) Let soak for a minimum of an hour, but this is easier if done the…

I replace nearly all the mayo in both egg and chicken salad to cut calories and fat. For 12 eggs use a 6 oz cup of yoghurt, 2 tbsp mayo, 2 tbsp djon mustard and a table spoon each of onion powder, garlic pepper and dry mustard. For chicken salad I leave out the mustard.

Ole Xtreme Wellness brand has a high fibre low carb tortilla that is very good; I'm not a big bread eater, but my hubby likes the Arnold/Brownberry (same company) smooth texture high fibre bread. (0 calories and 8 grams of fibre.

I have failed at every diet, losing 20 pounds, not being able to sustain the restrictive fare and gaining it back with reinforcements. I worked with a RD and changed how I buy food and cook. I don't binge now simply because I don't feel that any food is off limits. That said, now that I no longer eat processed foods or…

I'm 53 and bought my first bike last September; I love it in spite of being deliberately knocked off my bike Saturday by some creeps in a pick up truck. I even run errands on my bike and I'm thinking about adding panniers so I can do my shopping rather than driving. Even if all you can afford is a nice used bike, I say go…

I suss it won't be an issue once the floorboards are replaced. Wood shrinks with time (my hubby is in flooring) and develops creaks. You've done nothing wrong, and the fact that their complaint is costing the owner money has put them on the radar, not you. Document any further complaints, should their be any. Before buying…
