Pets rule for sure! I'm a petsitter, so that only allows me to have a cat. Her name is Maisy, and I rescued her from a basement. She's a domestic shorthair...I think. All I know is that if she's sitting on my lap and I don't pay attention to her...she'll bite me. :)

Yeah you FOR SURE! That's awesome. What a great pace, I'm totally impressed. I can only HOPE to get that fast--I ran a 10 minute mile yesterday but I could only do one...it was tough.

kburks-Do you have a smartphone? Or an iPod touch? If so--download a c25k program. The program runs (you can listen to music simultaneously) and gives you some sort of signal that you have to switch from running to walking, or vice versa. I agree that it would be difficult without some program like that. When my phone was…

That's fantastic!! Just think, if you keep at it, you'll only get faster from here!! Great work! :)
Nicely done. I've done W5D1 and will be doing D2 tomorrow. I'm already getting nervous about D3, the 20 minute run. I'm trying to be positive but, well, I can't see it happening...
I think you'll surprise yourself with the run... Plus, when you get through it (yes "when" not "if") you will feel that much…

Ahhh! I'm so jealous. That's fantastic! You are DEFINITELY doing something right! You must be over the moon. Congrats!!

I used this https://market.android.com/details?id=com.guyhoffman.c25k&feature=related_apps for Android. I don't think it really matters what app you use, as long as you have the sound notifications of when to walk/jog. Although with the one I used--it gets messed up when you switch to different screens, so if I was to do…

I haven't seen the movie, but loved the book. I was concerned about mistreatment of animals in the movie. I recommend The Help, the movie comes out soon. I loved the book, I'm really looking forward to the movie!

I can only see the first picture, but judging from your profile pic you look great. Keep up the hard work!
-
WOW!!! You look phenomenal. It looks like you've lost more than 24 lbs, that's fantastic. Keep it up!!!
-
Woohoo! Officially 2/3 done with training!! Just finished up W6D3 today. 25 minute run...it was slow (12 min miles) but at least I got through them. I soooo want this heat to break so I can get outside again, the treadmill is incredibly boring!! Any tips for how to keep myself occupied? I was even watching a DVD (Modern…

I second this! So many fantastic recipes, something for everyone, and everything, it seems!!

No, I don't think you should be hitting 3 miles in the first few weeks (at least that's not my experience.) Weeks 7, 8 ad 9 are longer runs, I think that's when you get closer to the 3 mile mark. Of course your speed dictates how far you'll go--but it sounds to me like you're progressing just fine. Sorry about the shin…

CT here :)

Absolutely wonderful. A huge accomplishment...AND you're shaving time off. Great, great job. Keep up the hard work and you will be running your own 10 minute mile in no time. Fabulous!
-
Those are fantastic!! Congrats!!! What is your cardio of choice that helped lower the HR?
-
That's a great NSV!! Now you can work to lowering that time even more. It's kind of a double NSV--running a full mile without stopping, and doing it sub-10 mins. Congrats!!!
-
Yes!! Absolutely!! All great ideas to keep in mind when people make their exercise choices!
-
Yes! Do it. Those dogs (and cats) will love and appreciate you unconditionally! They don't know what baggage you have, or care what you look like--they LOVE you for being there!! Plus, I think pet therapy is one of the best possible therapies around, it always picks me up!
-
Oh I love that!! Yes, I say it counts. How great of you to volunteer your time to a wonderful cause!
-
Yeah, I think the 5 minute walk is designed to warm your muscles up, but I was just sharing the stretching stuff because there was some discussion about it. I am really bad about stretching, always have been, (yes, I know this will bite me in the future...) but for those who are good about stretching and want more--perhaps…

I like this blog for recipe ideas: http://www.skinnytaste.com/ Perhaps you can reblog some? Maybe make some college-friendly adaptations?

What are Pet Banks??
-
Yes!! I didn't even think of the companionship part--great point!

Good luck, I'm starting week 6 this week. Good luck, its a fantastic program!

We promote dynamic or "active" stretching for our HS athletes. Rather than the static, "sit around a circle and count" stretching that I did when I was in HS (fewer than 10 years ago) the kids now make an active warmup. Some examples are butt kicks and high knees. (Tons more, but those are the easiest/most recognizable)…

Geeze! That is so ridiculous it sounds made up! Actually, I take that back, I don't think you could make that up!! I hope she does some research to get her facts straight!! Or, even more, I hope she doesn't share these current "facts" with others, scary thought!!

I like to eat steamed and raw veggies. No salt added, and filling. Something simple, as a snack. Kind of boring, but I'm a boring kind of eater. I'm interested to see what other people suggest!!

Congrats!! I did w5d3 yesterday, and yes--It's a huge accomplishment to finish the 'no stops" workout! You must be so proud!! Onto week 6! :) Good luck with the rest of your training. Just think--you're more than halfway there!! Congrats again.
